Mackem Delusion

Derby are undoubtedly averaging more this season because many of their fans thought they were about to lose their club and they've put the money in to help ensure the disaster was averted, add to that they've had cheap season tickets this season, starting at £300 for a regular adult.

They've averaged more than their last 3 Championship seasons.

They're a well supported club in general, but it's unique circumstances this season.
That's fair enough. It would be interesting to know how many season ticket holders Derby and Ipswich have.

A huge factor in Sunderland averaging such high attendances is their season ticket pricing. I believe their walk-ups are similarly priced to ours.

What's also interesting is that we've averaged a similar overall attendance to Norwich, yet they haven't had a crowd any lower than 25,000. Our crowds have fluctuated from 22,000 to 31,000. Again, it may be that Norwich have a higher number of season ticket holders and have therefore been able to average 25,000 or above more consistently throughout the season.

The attendance argument is literally all they have over us, most of their fans have never seen a trophy lifted, European football or a world class player play for them.

Its a totally pointless thing to brag about as well, what does a 30k average win you? You don't get a trophy for it and with 10k empty seats their ground is soulless anyway.

I'm not sure many of our fans think we're anything other than a fairly big championship club which I would suggest is a fairly accurate assessment. I don't sense any entitlement amongst our fans although expectations are quite high at the moment they seem to remain fairly realistic.

Were you around in our most successful period in our history, under McClaren ? The sense of entitlement was overwhelming with people wanting his sacked for having ginger hair, bright white teeth, saying "magnificent" alot or because of "the style of football we played" despite the results on the pitch making us an established table PL side, with the amazing cup runs on top of that.

I was mate yes although I lived out of the area and had given up my season ticket by that point. I cant remember the issues you mention above but as I say I was out of the loop to some degree back then

Absolutely. I work in Seaham and it’s Mackem dominated and loving us having a better season. All they bang on about is how big they could be. Like you said most fans have never seen a trophy. That said there attendances are a shade off 40k, rather than 30k.

I cant remember the timings but it didn't help when he said he was flattered that 'big club' Newcastle were interested in him and it also came out he fancied the Leeds job.
