A club of that size and what is this based on then ???a club of that size
Given leicester and yes Blackburn actually win the prem.
Don’t believe the hype

Huge club, if they expanded they could likely be pulling in 80k fans a week if they were doing well. Already a big brand that could grow even further. Makes it attractive for anyone to invest as we saw over the summer.A club of that size and what is this based on then ???

Nope no surprise the head of sky sports was a geordie was it.Sky's little pet project didn't come off in the long run did it?
FFP is a complete joke, almost unenforceable and completely undermined.
51k average in a stadium that can be expanded and you're saying that isn't huge potential?
I think you’re on the wrong board mate.Huge club, if they expanded they could likely be pulling in 80k fans a week if they were doing well. Already a big brand that could grow even further. Makes it attractive for anyone to invest as we saw over the summer.
If they were ran properly they should be a top 6 club at the very worst each season
So how do you define huge what what are the indicators of huge club potential? This just boils down to our definitions of huge mate, I have no doubt Newcastle could be about the 6th biggest club in the country given a load of investment and a bit if luck. That ain't huge though.
I think that’s the entire point of why they are protesting, they have huge potential and have never come close to fulfilling it, all whilst other clubs have caught up to them and overtaken them whilst Ashley has been owner. Would hope we were protesting under the same circumstances.Huge club? Huge fanbase? Huge potential? Huge this and that.
They are a one club city with a large fanbase. They haven't won a dickie bird in decades and as Zorro rightly points out, Blackburn and Leicester have won the prem. Does that make them huge? Potential is zilch if you never act on it.
Strange that two Boro fans are bigging in Newcastle on here, has to be said.
Those that win things on a regular basis at home and in Europe. So how do you define huge what what are the indicators of huge club potential?
No they don’t none more than say Leeds or other one club city sidesthey have huge potential
grow up, are we not allowed to talk about anything other than Boro on here now?I think you’re on the wrong board mate.

It’s hardly bigging them up either, just pointing out that the protests are justifiable.
if we were settling for a 20th place championship position every season with no ambition to ever improve, would you just sit back and accept it?

A large, loyal and regular fanbase within the domestic market is an important foundation, and they do have that. By virtue of being in the PL they already have access to potential international growth.I don't think it's about the domestic market anymore. Big clubs draw massive audience and income from overseas.
Gate receipts and stadium income are not what it's about.
My other thought is that ranking clubs by income disguises the fact that gaps between ranks get much bigger the higher up that pyramid you go. Even if Newcastle were ranked 7th or 8th, their income would be a fraction of Man U and Liverpool, who Newcastle would have to better to fulfil their supposed potential. As it stands, West Ham's revenue (in 7th place) is less than half of that of Arsenal (in 6th place). By the time you reach Man U, it's almost doubled again.
Before all that, they hounded out Jack Charlton in 1985.Newcastle fans protesting outside the ground?
What's new?
They hounded our SBR in August '04
They protested against Souness in January '06
Hounded out Allardyce in January '09 after he'd only been there 6 months (they then went and got relegated)
Had near riots because of Kinnear in March '09
Loved Shearer when he took over... and he then promptly relegated them
Held 4 years of protests against Pardew from 2010 to 2014 (despite him getting them to their highest league finish for over a decade)
Protested against Carver in June 09' (that ones understandable, the guy was hopeless)
Detested the appointment of McClaren in June 2015, and hounded him out by March 2016
At least everyone had some respite when Rafa was there (despite him doing feckall)
Now they're protesting against Bruce. Nothing changes
They've been "protesting" for nearly two decades despite being in the premiership for all but two of those seasons.
But we 'divvint understand, man'.
I haven’t bigged them up, I said they have huge potential which is true? Do you not think they have potential to be a top 6 side? They protested when they were around the champs league places. They protest no matter what, because they have ideas way way way above their station.
You have consistently bigged them up on this post which is really odd in all honesty.
I really don't think they are a huge club at all and I really don't think protests are justifiable. Those fans are never happy because they believe this tripe that they should be bigger and should achieve more than they are. On the back of what? Because they were champions in the 1930's or whenever it was.
And what on earth does us settling for 20th place have to do with anything? Is that our potential? You're equating a low position for us to a high position for them? Are you a Boro fan by any chance?!
Don’t forget the lakes and Hexham as well.Only 1 league club between Gateshead and Scotland.
Plus half of Durham... 50000 is quite low considering that catchment area
