Newcastle fans protesting

FFP is a complete joke, almost unenforceable and completely undermined.
51k average in a stadium that can be expanded and you're saying that isn't huge potential?
They could expand the Gallowgate End only they could not expand the Leazes Terrace side

They protested when they were around the champs league places. They protest no matter what, because they have ideas way way way above their station.

^^ This.

Bobby Robson had them 5th in the league, they lost 2-6 at home to their 'rivals' Man Utd, and began hounding him out saying he's past it. Its been downhill ever since. And since then its never mattered where they were in the league, no one has ever been good enough for them post Keegan's golden era. They would have eventually hounded out Benítez if he'd finished lower-mid table for another season.

I do think they have massive potential, and they should have been the next Man City. But their fans do themselves no favours. There may be a reason why no massive investment has come their way (apart for the Arab attempt last summer, which was probably more a political move than a sporting one).

Their fans are hard to please, history has shown that. They talk about all they want is to at least compete with the Leicester's and Everton's, but history has shown that even when they were up there, fighting for champions league places, it still wasn't good enough! Whose going to invest in a club with fans of that mentality? Much bigger prospects from other clubs who have fans with a semblance of reality tbh.

They'll be protesting against any new owner the moment they have a bad season, then rue the day Ashely left, because the one thing he's given them is relative stability in a league that 72 other football league clubs would love to play in, and most of those will never get close to doing so.

You have consistently bigged them up on this post which is really odd in all honesty.

I really don't think they are a huge club at all and I really don't think protests are justifiable. Those fans are never happy because they believe this tripe that they should be bigger and should achieve more than they are. On the back of what? Because they were champions in the 1930's or whenever it was.

And what on earth does us settling for 20th place have to do with anything? Is that our potential? You're equating a low position for us to a high position for them? Are you a Boro fan by any chance?!
They were Champions last in 1927. Anyone remembering that is dead.

I don' think there is much potential for extending SJP is there?

I don't think 30k fans and no extra TV money is going to double their income, which is the minimum needed to make them comparable to Arsenal, let alone quadruple it, to make it comparable to Man U.
Only the Gallowgate End. Leazes Terrace is listed Grade 1 so that side of the ground can’t be expanded.

I haven’t bigged them up, I said they have huge potential which is true? Do you not think they have potential to be a top 6 side?

Just because I support Boro doesn’t mean I would let my dislike of them get in the way of a fact. They are protesting because of a lack of investment and ambition which means they are nowhere near to their potential, again do you think this is wrong and they should just accept the fact they are going to finish 15th every year?

I was just wondering if we accepted a safe finish in our league every season with no excitement or ambition to ever improve, would you just sit back and accept that?
No they don't have the potential to be a top 6 side.
They are way behind: Leeds, Villa, Spurs, Everton. I would even say Sunderland.

They did come up with this, to go to a 70k capacity, but it looks a bit of a pipe dream.
They might have to share with Gateshead while it's done though.
70k

What makes you think they don’t?
And what do those sides apart from Spurs have that they don’t?

Bigger city than The Boro
Bigger catchment area than The Boro
Is that what makes a club big? It’s population and potential to put bums On seats?
You need a bcatchment area to be a big club.

Marske United are never gonna be a big club.

In the time we had our success Newcastle would regularly finish above us and they played champions league football.

we felt like we were punching above our weight, Newcastle didn’t

But with hindsight it turns out that they certainly were punching well above their weight!

To be fair, they were punching around their weight. The Gulf state and Russian oil and gas money has changed the shape of the premier league, now their 'weight punching level' is about tenth on a good season and relegated on a really bad one.

Sign of the times I'm afraid, unless the Saudis come in, that's all they'll ever be.

I would quite like them to just be whipping boys in the PL, escaping relegation by the skin of their teeth every season. Keep the delightful Mike Ashley in the manner he's become accustomed so he has no need to invest, sell them or do anything to upset the status quo.

A fall to depths allows them to rebuild and move foward with renewed hope of better things, this simply will not do. A Groundhog Day type of existence, just barely keeping their heads above relegation for ten years or so would be more soul crushing I believe.
“I’d love it!”
