Paddy McNair

Wasn't particularly paying attention to his every move, but as with 10-11-12 players yesterday he was a "5/10 tried but just wasn't up to it". 🤷🏻‍♂️

If he is sold, so be it. If he stays I'm sure he will be a decent squad player/cover. Not going to be playing a team as good as Brighton for a while so no massive concerns.

Chucking somebody "under the bus" (?) is neither helpful to Michael Carrick`s Boro - moving forward - or Paddy himself.
When Chris Wilder, Tony Pulis and Warnock did that every week - there was uproar and moral outrage?!
Never kick a man when hes down, then expect him to get up and do better.

Some of the threads following yesterdays game are a little over the top!

Lets look at the game premier league opponents and a really good team and club who have worked on recruitment and have an identity, who we can only aspire to replicate.

I dont believe Carrick asked the players to expose themselves to much we definately didnt play how we have in the recent championship games.

At times we played some nice stuff, brighton where much better, lets move on and concentrate on whats important, the league!

Carrick is still assessing the squad and is looking to strengthen, he will know who isnt performing, who is low on confidence and ultimately who is not in his plans.
I have seen enough in his short time with the club which suggests he knows what he is doing and I will support any decision he and the club make which as always will be in the best interests of the club.

These type of threads being hoofed make interesting reading sometimes to see what people were saying at a different point in time.

Although to be honest the board could be filled with them as most of us will get it wrong at some point or another. The only people who never get it wrong sometimes are those who never offer an opinion on anything.

I for one thought McNair would be away in Jan if we got a replacement in.
Carrick is managing the squad so well though, and McNair has played very well since coming back into the team and deserves his place.

I also thought:
1. Akpom would be sold or loaned out again last summer.
2. Howson would struggle.
3. Forss was a bench player at best.
4. Lenihan was Corporal Jones.
5. Smith was cover for a year.
6. Dijksteel, Fry, Jones and Crooks would be ever presents.
7. Muniz would be important.

So lots and lots of humble pie for me - and a lot of others I suspect.

I still don't think McGree is a patch on Tavernier and Steffan is not for me. Hope I'm wrong there too.
I still think Gyokeres would have been a great signing. Still do and playing with Akpom would be sublime.

Theres no humble pie to eat really is there. At the time and for the last 12 months McNair has been way below par. You can only comment on what you see at the time. He has played well the last 2 games but he needs to keep that form up over a long period which for me he hasn't ever done here.

As a team we have been fantastic in the last 2. Credit to all the players
