The Guisborough Walkway one is appalling to charge for it. Most of the money collected probably goes into the Council's general funds. The only reason anyone would park there is to use the cafe and/or walkway.
There is no security, the Council probably collect rent from the Cafe. The Visitors Centre is run on donations e.g. Sirius Minerals Mine donated funds, the public space is run by volunteers and looked run down last Summer. Maybe Volunteers are also charged to use the car park. Or some people don't use it because there is a charge.
There are no public toilets for the Council to maintain. The area has really good potential for nature and rural studies as well as further fitness activities. It is surrounded by the Cleveland Hills/Roseberry Topping on one side and the former Guisborough to Nunthorpe railway on another side. There are old ironstone and jet mines on the hillside. There is a small lecture room and little outdoor lecture area, that never seem to be used.
Its £2.20 for 2 hours to park at the Walkway (7 days a week), but free in many parts of the centre of Guisborough for 2 hours, especially at a weekend. Crazy.
