Patrick Bamford called up for England.

In the England squad (deservedly), the usual suspects best get their tissues ready.

Michail Antonio robbed though.
Antonio is 31 though, decent player, but too late to be finding his England form and if we're honest for however good a player he is, his fundamentals are little below Bamford, and he would struggle at international level.

Hope we added an England cap clause when we sold Bamford?

Good player and deserves a chance to show what he can do on at that level, was shocked when we sold him he was clearly our best forward, underused and played out of position for some of his time here. Why do Boro have a penchant for square pegs in round holes?

Shocking business in hindsight is what you are basically saying

we got a fair price for him at the time we sold him, for the experience he had under him.

he worth 30 mil now because he’s scoring goals in the premier league
You are very much one of those shovelling humble pie down your chops now.
We didn't get a fair price for him given we had just paid over £15m for a carthorse with an inability to put his boots on the right feet every week.

Bamford being sold was down to pulis, but Gibson backed him and together they made a shocker of a call. Gibson has stuffed up remarkably since 2016 and this was one of the biggest mistakes.

Good luck to him but this is spot on.
Really? I wouldn’t say a dearth at all.

If you’re talking about forwards in a 4-3-3 our choices are probably as good as anyone in world football.

For a pure number 9, there’s Harry Kane - one of the best in the world, then Calvert-Lewin, and then you’re looking at the likes of Greenwood, Ings, Olly Watkins, Tammy Abraham, Wilson and people like Rashford and Sancho who can play there. Not forgetting Jamie Vardy, who’s absolute class.

We’ve still got one of the best international teams in the world, it’s not like Rooney, Crouch, nobody like it used to be.

Why am I shovelling humble pie. My opinion hasn’t changed on him.

just cos we paid 15m for assombolonga doesn’t mean we didn’t get a fair price for bamford

You are one who kept going on at anybody who lamented the sale of Bamford.
You said we were right to sell Bamford and keep Ass and have continually scorned those of us who have commented on the inevitability of his success for Leeds.
Patrick Bamford is the only quality striker to have played for Boro since Mark Viduka left.
He has made the England squad that he should have made for the Euros and I for one am absolutely delighted for him.

The main thing here is we get £1m if he gets on the pitch for England.

We've already had something for leeds getting promoted so will get the full £10m for him

I’d have Danny Ings in front of him.

not sure I’ve ever put assombolonga in front of bamford

On that note we've paid £6m for Payero.

Warnick isn't playing him 'because he isn't ready for the championship'....

Yet good enough for Argentina....

Plus our midfield hasn't exactly been great so far........put him in if he needs experience.

Love to see him and Crooks in front of Morsy with Morsy as a stopper in front of paddy and Dael.....tav and Jones outwide

Blackburn seems a perfect opportunity for this, home game.........but of course he'll play howson.

Good enough for the Argentina U23s, which is a very different thing.

He should be getting more game time but the Olympics is essentially youth football for the men's teams.

It was a mistake to sell him off that there is no doubt. The 10 million was probably about right given his previous failure to make it at prem level.

Good luck to the lad

As has been said many of times. The decisions by Pulis (and Gibson for allowing it) are up there with some of the most ridiculous decisions we've ever made.

At one point we had Harrison, Adama & Bamford and of those, there's only Traore who Pulis really put faith in.

Harrison, Adama & Bamford. Quite incredible. And yet Pulis played the likes of Gestede ahead of Bamford, and rarely utilised Harrison.

He really has gone down as one of the worst managerial appointments ever. He took over from a car crash in Monk and proceeded to make matters even worse.

And then you still get some of our fans defend the thieving scumbag.

When Pulis was forced to play bamford, he managed to get us in the playoffs. Scored 8 goals in a handful of games. Then he didn’t fancy him again. Unbelievable really

I'll never ever forget the play off games against Villa.

Quite incredible how he only gave Bamford 5/10 mins up front out of 180 minutes....especially in the 2nd leg when we needed to score.

The dinosaur should've been sent packing the moment that FT whistle went at Villa Park.

It was obvious then he didn't have a clue what he was doing.

Antonio has been unlucky in the past due to injuries and spotty form but I wished Gareth had given him an England squad number as I think he’s been an incredible professional and deserves a lot more than West Ham. Paddy has deserved the call up because of his persistence, while Antonio deserves it because of his loyalty.

That 2nd leg was criminal.

That performance on Monday against a very good Leicester side showed all his qualities. He's a very good player IMHO. Remember him standing out for Sheff Wed many moons ago.

Yeah, I don't really think he's good enough to start in a tournament but I think he's definitely deserved to play in qualifiers with some of his performances in recent years.

Worse players from bigger clubs have been called up for less.

There's a reason he's only declared for Jamaica in his 30s, he clearly wanted to play for England.
