Patrick Bamford called up for England.

Disagree, we got a fair amount for him

don’t let the inflated prices we’ve paid for strikers over the year distort the reality of prices for other players.
Take the money out of the question, we let the best striker we have had since Viduka/JFH leave and replaced him with significantly worse players

Adam Armstrong is the same age as Bamford was, scored 28 last season, 16 the season before, and went for £17m to a Premier League team.

Yet you think we would have got £30m for a player that scored 11 after scoring 1 goal in 4 years before that?
He went to another Championship team, there was no Premier League interest in him.
For what he was at the time, we got a good fee.

We shouldn't have sold him, but that doesn't mean the price was wrong.
I don’t mean he was worth 30 million back then, but the money really wasn’t worth it for a young striker with huge potential. It wasn’t a good deal no matter how you look at it

I doubt you'd find many Boro fans who didn't regret selling him, but I think a huge part of that regret is tied up in who we kept instead of him.

Gestede was and is *****, he shouldn't ever have been considered.

Braithwaite was a snake and should never have been signed.

Assombalonga was never worth £15m and we were stupid to pay his release clause, he's not a particularly good footballer even if we had signed him for cheaper.

Bamford and Traore were the reason we made the play-offs under Pulis. Pulis deserves credit for having the sense to play Traore but we know the only reason for him giving Bamford a run was Gestedes' injury.

The fact Monk gave neither player a proper chance during his tenure here emphasies how clueless he was.

Hilarious looking back and remembering that some fans thought Bamford was finished and no longer the same player.

No, it was because Monk and Pulis decided it would be a good idea to play him either as a no 10 or left winger, to accommodate Britt/Gestede.

Nope. Many fans hated the decision at the time because it was blindingly obvious to us how good Bamford was. Nothing to do with who we kept, that was just salt into the wound, but it's not the reason I, and I suspect many more, were absolutely gutted at the time. Leeds fans at work were unsure at the time but I assured them he was class. Look like a genius now, but as I say, it seemed obvious to me.

Pulis is full of ****. "We needed the money". If we could afford £9m on Aden Flint and £7m for Saville we didn't the money that badly.

"We had too many strikers" but then goes and loans Jordan Hugill.

"He wanted to leave" yeah Tony after you'd accepted a bid and made it clear he'd be behind an absolute donkey in Gestede in the pecking order. Of course he wanted to leave, you made sure of it.

Pulis just didn't like him. Probably both personally and the type of player he was. The dinosaur has it in his head that needs an absolute battering ram up front because he hasn't the coaching ability to play any other way. Bamford made it awkward for him because his form made it really hard to drop him. Any manager worth his salt would roll with that and change his system to better suit the outstanding centre forward in his squad. Pulis instead just seemed determined to remove the "problem" as soon as possible.

You've literally just ranted about the players we kept instead of him whilst saying that has nothing to do with why fans were annoyed.

Obviously fans wouldn't have been bothered he'd left if he wasn't a good player or we'd kept better.

But virtually every thread on Bamford has people complaining about who we kept instead, I do it myself.
Turning down a bid for Gestede but then forcing Bamford out the door was ridiculous.

No they didn't. I don't recall any that being the main issue, which is a bit less than every thread. People wanted him to stay as they could see how good he was.

Where did I say it was the main issue?

There's somebody in this thread complaining about who we kept instead, there was somebody on the thread about him signing a new deal with Leeds, there are people complaining about it in the thread about Tottenham being interested in him, there are people complaining about it in the thread about it being a mistake to sell him, there are people complaining about it in the thread about Bamford missing out on the Euro squad.

People did not like that we sold a good player and kept inferior players ahead of him, that is a fact, and it's a big part of the reason it rankles with so many.

If you sell a Premier League quality player in the Championship, you're sure to have inferior players left. What concerned people was the selling of Bamford full stop. No wonder people are complaining above; we got rid of a quality player who a rubbish manager didn't rate.

Right, so people were bothered that we sold him and kept worse players then?
Which is what I said and was then told wasn't an issue.

Which I disputed and then you also jumped in to say it wasn't an issue.

Err no. They'd be happy to keep him and keep worse players.

Why do we have to turn this into a competition?

Bamford left. Anybody with a brain was devastated he left because he was easily the best striker we had had since Mark Viduka left in 2007. All Paddy wanted to do was what we wanted him to do and that was lead our line.
We mourned his leaving because he was absolute quality first and foremost.
We grieved that the fee was so pitifully low.
We were upset that he went to Leeds.
We were stunned at the decision to spend the money we apparently needed to raise from his sale, on players as criminally bad as Flint and Saville who each cost as least as much as he raised.
We were horrified that pulis was allowed to sell him and chose to keep uber donkeys Assombolonga, Fletcher and Gestede.
We were dismayed then that pulis spunked another fortune on borrowing the dullard Hugill as he finally realised how useless were "britt" and fletcher.

Steve Gibson is the idiot who allowed pulis to make all of those calls, after he allowed Monk to sign all that garbage in the first place.
