Patrick Bamford called up for England.

Anyone could see the potential he had, it was certainly clear he was going to be worth a lot more than 10 million one day

Even without that it was clear he was significantly better than the strikers we had at the time, or anyone we have brought in since.

Shocking business
Shocking business in hindsight is what you are basically saying

we got a fair price for him at the time we sold him, for the experience he had under him.

he worth 30 mil now because he’s scoring goals in the premier league

Think pretty much everyone said at the time it was shocking business too, pretty obvious to everyone he would go on to be a good premier league player.

You don't score 17 goals in the championship as a young lad without clearly having huge potential. £10 million was anything but a good price at his age

Disagree, we got a fair amount for him

don’t let the inflated prices we’ve paid for strikers over the year distort the reality of prices for other players.

I think it looks worse than it was because of what we ended up paying for the strikers since, but I think it was fair business at the time.

It may have been a fair price but it doesn't forgive the huge **** up we made by selling him in the first place and sticking by the garbage we had and the further garbage we brought in.

Delighted for him. Such an intelligent and technically gifted player. Getting in the England squad at the minute is no joke, it’s not like 10 years ago, the competition is fierce.

Always said he was our best player by a street, some genius can probably sort through the old board to prove it 😂 Criminally underused by Karanka towards the end, who I loved; Agnew, who was a clown; and Pulis, who I didn’t understand at all.

Was so excited when we signed him on a permanent deal. We all moan - quite reasonably - about our shocking transfer business, especially our record with strikers, but to have a player with the potential of Bamford on the books, not use him and then let him go was so poor.

His season when he got Championship player of the year with us was sensational.

Adam Armstrong is the same age as Bamford was, scored 28 last season, 16 the season before, and went for £17m to a Premier League team.

Yet you think we would have got £30m for a player that scored 11 after scoring 1 goal in 4 years before that?
He went to another Championship team, there was no Premier League interest in him.
For what he was at the time, we got a good fee.

We shouldn't have sold him, but that doesn't mean the price was wrong.

Theres a leeds doc on prime in which Bamford says he couldn't believe it when boro accepted leeds offer.

Orta was at leeds by then and knew boro were trying to balance the books after the money laid out by monk and not going straight back up.....

Pulis is on record as denying he didn't want Bamford, Braithwaite, forshaw, Harrison but they clearly weren't pulis players and he rarely utilised them to their best so he didn't exactly try and keep them.

You can't really knock Gibson but the pulis era and the footballing and transfer decisions made while he was there by whoever were the nadir of the Gibson era.......though strachans time comes close

Well done to him, well deserved and very good player

he has scored goals everywhere he’s been if given a proper run of games.

Don't forget the Bielsa impact on Bamford. He turned a poor bottom half of the championship team into a solid Premier league team with pretty much the same players.

Hes turned Phillips into a first choice England CM.

Bamford should never have been sold, to f****** leeds of all clubs, but tbf it'd be a bit of a stretch to say he was an England player or ever would be when was at the boro.

I personally dont see Bamford being good enough for the international stage. Plenty of strikers have had a good season in the Premier League and not followed it up - he also missed a lot of chances last year.

Its a big and different step up. International football is slower and much more defensive, even some of the great players dont stand out. The so called poor teams are more organised and harder to break down than ever before and very physical something Bamford isn't good at.

I'm happy for him as a lot worse have had caps but i don't see this being a long lasting thing

i always read this - “he missed a lot of chances”

who cares? Even the best strikers miss more than they score, otherwise they would get 100+ goals a season or something.

Kane missed a chance last weekend that you’d think he could bury blindfolded, no doubt he’ll miss dozens more like that, but he will still probably be near the top scorers this season. It’s part of the game.

All that matters is how many they put it in the net and he was the second highest English goal scorer in the Premier League last year, behind Harry Kane.

Bamford has scored goals everywhere has been if he’s given a real run of games.

Yeah. Short term you can understand why someone like Pulis would be worth a gamble, but medium term it’s done us no favours at all.

Do you think Warnock might be a similar manager and a similar mistake? I’m undecided.

I F***ing hated Braithwaite but to have a forward line of Braithwaite - Bamford - Adama now seems like a top end Premier League strike force.

I think this is largely a good point, but Leeds had twice only just missed out on the play-offs before Bielsa was appointed, their revival had already started.

Not bad for someone who couldn't get regular first team football for us.
But at the time we did have a legendary forward line.
Assombalonga, Fletcher, and Gestede.
He was never going to displace that level of quality.
If only we had a lightening quick winger to provide him with the right service.
A good run of games and he would have been prolific alongside someone like that spanish guy who now plays for wolves.
Can't remember his name.
🤔

i think he has suffered some inverted snobbery from coaches because of his privileged background. He has always been an intelligent player, playing for Bielsa must be a perfect fit for him, and he can only have improved him. Interesting stat with Bamford this season among the fastest

Theyd had one good season under monk two years before bielsa joined and finished 13th the year before. I know a few leeds fans and they say they were nowhere before he came
