PMQ's - My Personal U-Turn - Starmer Out

I've just watched Starmer miss the biggest open goal he's had in PMQ's since he was voted in as leader. I like the man but he's not the leader that Labour needs now. Johnson just batted the questions away.

I think Labour need someone like Sarah Champion. She is a Brexit supporter and has a decent enough CV. She's a northern MP. Or can we convince someone like Andy Burnham to stand in a by-election somewhere?

I hoped for so much when Starmer was elected. Sadly he's not the leader to take down Johnson.

Why is it Starmer's fault that Johnson didn't answer any question, including a simple yes/no question?

It's the questions. He needed to go all out attack today, it was a damp squib. Exerted no pressure. The Cummings stuff will soon drift away and Starmer didn't use it to his advantage.

Starmer get's accused of playing politics every PMQ's - it's maybe time he did.

I really wish that it had worked out. I like him and I like his politics. It's a shame that he can't stand up to Johnson in the eyes of the public as without that labour will never get back into power.

This is the problem I have with anyone who tries to get him to give a straight answer. They should just keep asking him to answer the question.
Good point. That was my thought today.

Ask "Did you say covid was only killing over 80s?" repeatedly.

By adding preamble to the question, he is allowing Johnson to pick up words around the question. Although today, there was no preamble to that question.

What questions should he have asked that would have got an answer?

Johnson is too skilled a liar on his feet. And if you want to see the effect of short, sharp questions in PMQs, just look back to the personal disaster (for him) of IDS's stint as Leader Of The Opposition.

Jury's out on Starmer for me now, he lacks charisma imho, obviously a clever chap but that doesn't go down well with the electorate unfortunately. Burnham would be a definite upgrade, has some public recognitiion and is probably one of the few who can unite the party. Appears to have credibility with both left, didn't stab Corbyn in the back and right served in Blair's cabinet.

Doesn't matter who's asking the question, or what the question is if they won't answer, and they know the sheep that gave them a 80 seat majority are not bothered if they don't

Burnham got himself some goodwill standing up to Johnson during the local lockdowns too.

Is that just Johnson though? Surely that has to be almost every politician that has set foot in Westminster!
