Reading Relegated

For the first time since 2002, Reading will be playing in League 1, or Division 2 as it was called then.

I’ve never really liked Reading, not sure why, we hardly ever seem to do well down there and they’ve give us some poor results over the years. 3-2 on the opening day and when they thrashed us with poor Connor Ripley in goal, was it 5 or 6?

I think it might be a while until they come back. League 1 is really competitive these days, they seem to do well with youth players but can imagine them all being picked up by rivals now.

Paul Ince invited to pundit for the Man United game tonight while the team he managed the majority of this season go down.

I said something similar regarding them staying down for a while.

Yeah I’m delighted it’s them who have gone down. Really hope we aren’t in this division next season but if we are I’m glad we don’t have to play them. And like you, I don’t really like them. Without having too much of a reason why

I'm sure they have passionate fans like everyone else but they've always appeared quite nondescript.
They probably suffer from being close to London and the big clubs that live there.

(I've never taken Watford seriously either but I think it's the yellow kit. Same goes for Norwich, despite being a decent sized club).

I wouldn't say I dislike them; as has been said, they're the ultimate meh team.

If we don't go up, I'd have preferred Wigan and Blackpool to stay up at the expense of QPR and Cardiff for the same reason; they're fairly inside fixtures. I don't begrudge uncle Albert his moment at the weekend though.

I reckon there are only 10 clubs who haven't been in the 3rd tier or lower since our last visit, and half of them haven't been outside the top flight.

They’ve had a good run for a former 3rd division club, they were even a ‘model’ club once when that Adkins bloke was manager.

To me they are just one of these "meh" teams. A complete irrelevance. Relegated tonight - meh. Promoted next year - meh. Never heard of ever again - meh.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
I know what you mean. I'm indifferent to most clubs but Reading in particular are one of those clubs who I think of as being a nothing club. I feel awful saying it, because of course the club means something to their fans but it's just how I feel.

Never won a major trophy, never really had any big name players, even when they were in the Premier League. They always brought a measley following to the Riverside and those who did make the trip barely ever made any noise. I couldn't name one song which their fans song.

I hope their local commentary team enjoy league one.

The most biased and disrespectful pair I’ve every heard when listening to other clubs commentary on Boro games.

Mocking us and our fans whilst beating us. Worst team they had seen at their stadium for years apparently. Couldn’t believe we were one of the favourites for promotion.

They were riding high then and we were struggling.

It’s a long season fellas.

Remember reading on here that they rolled out a “well, it’s 1-0 to Reading, but it’s only Middlesbrough”.

I was at that game.. there were rail strikes. Still over 1,000 there. Have they ever brought that here?

Won’t be missed. It’s a chronic away day.

brentford have always been a small cockney club since I started going to watch footie in 1969.... shiit happens... in 1969 they were 4th Division with 6k average crowds, finished 11th and were beaten twice by Darlo in the league

I know he is already sacked but im guessing this has effectively ended Ince’s management career too. Unless he wants to go quite far down the leagues again.
