Reform

The first past the post system makes it really difficult for new/different parties to win seats. Most people will vote for the same party they always do and even if they gain popularity then gaining enough in a constituency that is already established as a one/two party constituency is difficult. In 2015 UKIP got nearly 4m votes and it gave them 1 seat. The Lib Dems got 2.4m and 8 seats, the SNP got 1.4m and 56 seats. That was more than the SNP and Lib Dems combined but that got them 63 seats fewer.

I don't agree with anything Reform have to say but it is a nonsense system that gives so many votes so little representation in Parliament.

The biggest problem with Reform isn't whether or not they are taking votes off the Tories. Labour should be wondering why these people aren't voting for Labour. They are mostly traditional working class former Labour voters, even if they have voted for the Tories/UKIP more recently. This is what happens when Labour abandons the workers and moves to the right. Those voters aren't economically right-wing, they aren't wealthy, they aren't businesses they are people that would benefit most from left wing economics and they have only ended up over on the right because Labour have stopped talking about the negatives of immigration and how it impacts the people that have to compete for housing/jobs/public services with the additional people. It makes it too easy for people like Farage to stoke racism/hatred when all the opposition parties are saying there is no problem.
I think it's difficult for Labour to take voters from Reform. Reform are running on a far right platform of stating that they are happy to see immigrants drown in the channel. If that is what is attracting voters then I don't see how Labour combat that realistically.

People who will vote Reform are already lost to the far right as far as I can see.

Farage will probably get in, and instead of getting 1/650th of the airtime, he'll get 50% of the airtime or 325/650, as the far right press are self serving tossers.

He gets tons of airtime now and has been beat as an MP ~6 times, and his brexit lies have been proven as lies, yet he always gets on panels etc, when others who actually have MP's and don't lie, don't.

The thing is, everywhere thinks that their country does it the worst way don't they? Its not like the people of USA, France and Germany are looking at the UK going "We do it brilliantly compared to them". I was chatting to a Californian two weeks ago who was desperate to move to the UK, I explained to her that it was far from a bed of roses and that our weather was worse but she wouldn't have it.
Assume she's a Democrat (or at least anti Republican)?

Sometimes think it would be better to just start again, invent some new countries and you choose which country you want to belong to based on your politics.

If you want working public services you can move to the country with higher taxes, better overall standard of living and more multi culturalism.

If you want lower taxes and freedom to make racist jokes in public, you can move to the all-white, low tax nirvana promised by the likes of Trump and Farage. With no public services to speak of (waste of money anyway), but all the flags you can handle and you can openly growl at the thought of foreigners moving in to your hearts content. Not that foreigners would get past that giant wall stopping anyone coming in or out.

Everyone wins.

🤔

I have a feeling that is what is going to happen in the USA over the next 50 years or so. The red and blue states will get so polarized as people migrate based on how they vote.

I don’t think the U.K. does it the worst at all

American politics feels much worse than here

The USA is a basket case in lots of ways. The gun crime, school shootings, lack of universal healthcare, poised to vote for a convicted criminal who can't string a sentence together are all far worse than the situation in the UK I think. I wouldn't swap with them.

Yeah buts he's entertaining the others are boring to watch

But I don't think many European countries feel like they're getting it right either. The whole developed world moans constantly about their politics.
Of course they do because the whole system is setup to benefit the very wealthy. The other 99.9% of people are unhappy because we think they should share some of their money but they have created systems which means the rest argue about how to spend the scraps and they own the media so they own the narrative and are never seriously questioned.

There hasn't been a leader of any major nation as far as I'm aware that has made any progress towards addressing the balance between the 0.1% and the rest. The rich keep on getting richer in absolute and relative terms. The wealthiest countries in the world all have problems with homelessness and poverty. They all have enough money to solve it but it isn't a priority for them because they are scared of Mr billionaire not "investing" in their country.

You specifically said that people view their own as the worst, I’ve given my own experience to show that

The nature of politics you’ll never make that many people happy

Confirming the right wing bias of the media, in luding the BBC.

Has anyone been on any tactical voting sites that push reform to the front as the party to vote for to keep the tories out?

Do Reform have a chance of getting a seat in Hartlepool?
Hartlepool have been staunch brexit and haven't UKIP / Brexit parties done well there in the past?

A lot of the people on my facebook who share Reform posts tend to be from Hartlepool.

It is actually quite fascinating that all these years after they hanged a monkey as they feared it was a French spy they are still so worried about foreigners, comin' over 'ere.
