Sam Morsy

Had a bit of a dip after his injury but I think he's been a good acquisition. Morsy, Howson and Saville is our best midfield combo and, as we saw the other night, Howson brings out the best in the other two.

He's really impressed me. I think he does a lot of 'dirty' things that probably go under the radar. He has a superb ability to just break up a move with an interception or niggley foul. I love how he's always in the middle of an argument or kick off😂

A few had a bit of a pop after the Brum game but he's been one of the ones with Covid. I thought he did well enough while Howson was out.

You would have to say for what we paid he's been a success. I'm sure it was around 1mil or maybe less. I remember Warnock saying he wanted Joe Williams from Wigan and was going to pay 1.5mil. He only went for Morsy because he missed out and says it worked out brilliantly as more 'his type of player' and cheaper.

II think a goals coming soon. He's been getting closer and I wouldnt call him 'defensive'..... Well not in the Clayton sense.

I chatted to a Wigan fan about him. He was clearly the player of the year last season and he said most fans expected him to be first out during the fire sale.

One of the biggest compliments you can give a mf is that the opposition don’t like facing you and in morsey you can see from their body language that opposing players really don’t like facing him.

as others have said he has the close control and potent shot but there’s an air of menace about him too that unsettles sides.

Meh

not very impressed to be honest, was made out to be a world beater when we signed him but seems to give lots of fouls away and slips over a lot.

Probably don’t get to see his full contribution though watching on the tv as I imagine he will do a lot off the ball.

What's everyones opinion so far?

I'm a big fan personally, seems to have a bit of everything.

He's been unlucky not to have a few goals to his name too, but for some good saves and blocks. I also like that nasty streak he has.
Cracking signing, just does the simple things easy, as the game flows & the Howson & Savilles start putting their mark on the game Morsy just goes about his game, get it pass, break up play, pass

He even pops up in the opposition area

Yep great signing for me & a very important member of our team

Positives are he’s tenacious and great work rate. Negatives are he’s a walking yellow card and his passing is limited. Jury’s out for me but he’s a decent signing for the price

Looked really good early doors, average to decent without doing much of note since coming back from injury, poor against Brum, great against Forest.

Overall decent without spectacular, if he gets back to his early season form (and his reviews against Forest suggest he has) then maintains somewhere near that, he'll have been a really good piece of business for the fee paid.

I think it's got to be taken into account the fee paid. I mean we've paid 7mil for CMs in past (Howson / Saville). You wouldn't say the are 7 times better😉.

The signings of Bola / Dijksteel and Morsy suggest we can now at least spot a player without paying the earth. We are basically paying what must champo clubs do. I for one think that's improvement.

I actually moaned more when we were throwing money at players under Monk and Pulis. We massively over payed for players (some times double or more than they were worth).

That's a decent point, I still think the fee for Akpom was a little high for a 'Corona' signing, but as Adi always used to say, the transfer fee is pretty irrelevant compared to the wages over four years of the contract or whatever, and I assume both are cheap-ish.

Lacks pace and would struggle in the top division. That said, I agree with all the positives posted so far and a very capable top Championship midfielder

World beaters don't play for Wigan and cost a million to buy. He's very good at this level however he did come back looking a little 'heavy' after his recent layoff.

Yea agree, I don't think anyone made out he was a world beater, just very good at this level

He was a cheap signing at age 27 from Wigan. Never going to a ‘world beater’ but definitely an improvement on what we had and does a job. Team better for having him in

Adi was wrong then, as you are now for quoting it as right.
Assombolonga's fee was over £15m, there will be no resale. The amortisation (charge to P&L) is £3.75m per season, or £72k per week.
Whether Assombolonga is on £35k per week, or anything up to £60k per week that has been mentioned, his wage has cost significantly less than his disastrous transfer fee.

IF we had sold Assombolonga for £11.25m after the Villa Park play off no show, then his wage would still have been a bigger cost than the £3.75m amortisation that one season.
Only if he had left for a fee bigger than his book value, would his wage have started to become the bigger factor.

As always, the transfer fee, agents fees, length of contract, wages, bonuses, release clauses, what fee is received for any sale and at what time he's sold during the contract are all important factors. It is only just about wages with somebody like Watmore, where there was no fee.
People who don't understand that pay £15m for Assombolonga.

Up and down for me a bit like Saville TBH. Thought he had a good game against Forest.

Was thinking yesterday about what Warnock said in his press conference about Howson. How he thought he as ok before he came here but he didnt realise how good he was. Well lets face it very few did. 18 months ago I said on here that I would not be bothered whether he stayed or went. Then he was moved into defence by Woodgate(I think) and he was a changed player. Then Warnock comes in and he ends up playing where he is now. He's been brilliant. Where that player was who knows because lets face it he had played this role for us before without showing anything special. Whether its Warnock, the system we are playing or whether he has improved his fitness Im not sure(he was often blowing out of his @rse in games before). All I can say is long may it continue.

He's just a nasty player who gets stuck in, every team needs one as it allows the more expressive players to play. Although I will say so far he's looked more expansive than I thought he was before he signed.
