Saville

Got to agree about Savile. I posted yesterday that he has gone back to his previous non existent form. Was rubbish today.

Morsy his best game for a long while.

Howson put a shift in and seemed to me to be getting forward a bit more. You can see why he doesnt play more forward after he had that run and was so knackered he only just manged to get his shot away. Still he had a good game.

I'll probably get slated here but I thought Spence was decent today. Had to cover for Fisher when he was dragged about by their player. Plus he looked ok going forward and I think they were worried about him because if you watch game again you will see they were doubling up on him all the time. Especially in the first half.

Fry superb today. Fisher decent debut.

Its also no coincidence that we look a far better team when we keep the ball down. Today and against Forest. We look woeful when we get dragged into a hoofest as we did against Brim and Rotherham. A lot less passing back to keeper today and him hoofing to touch. Long may it continue
Agree with all that
Thought akpom did well when he came on also but we badly lack that cut throat edge to us because Norwich were there to be taken down and that was because of Warnocks fabulous tactics prior to the sending off (which was never a sending off)

Bolasie was largely ineffective and that’s being kind but was his first game for a while

Agree with all the comments re Saville but for me today, the main culprit was Spence. He has pace fair enough but I lost count the number of times he lost possession in dangerous areas trying to be too clever. Keep it simple young man!!
That's the frustration with Spence. Lad clearly has the ability and we've seen him have some great games but he is still over-elaborate in his playing and still hasn't seemed to learn when to keep it simple which ends up costly. Roberts is just the same kind of player in terms of a football brain. Doing too much when it isn't needed ..

As much as I still like Spence, I do get nervous at the same time seeing his name on the team sheet still!

I just don't see it in him. Describe his attributes to me as I would argue he's slow, weak, poor in the air, not particularly skillful and can't shoot.
1.He retains the ball very well
2.Scores the odd goal (now under Warnock)
3.He excellent positional play (knowing where to be) allows the likes of Johnson, Tav, watmore and Spence to push on and he keeps the team in shape along side morsy
4. Good at being combative with opposition whilst avoiding lots of yellow cards (unlike morsy which is a skill in and of itself)

He can be frustrating but his attributes are many. Many.

Agree with everything about spence there
Full of potential as well but doesn’t seem to learn very quickly

1. You could argue he passes the ball 5 yards to Watmore or Tav and lacks incision.
2. 5 in 47 games for us is hardly earth shattering.
3. He just stands in the middle of the pitch.
4. Just earned a one match ban for the most criminal yellow card I’ve seen yesterday where he grabbed the lads boot with his hand whilst lying on the ground.

Thought it was ten cards now as we are halfway through?

I bow to your superior knowledge on that. Still a stupid yellow to pick up.
I'm not 100% I'm in the middle east and the commentary here didn't mention he'd picked up a ban and they normally would. So I'm assuming based on previous seasons.

It is 10 cards now, yeah, for a 2 match ban.

The criteria changes after the 19th league match. We're on the 27th now.

Shifts to 15 cards and a 3 match ban after the 37th match.

I think it's only really Morsy I expect to get banned.
He's on 7 yellows right now, I'd be shocked if he didn't get 3 more in the next 10 games.

1. Not true and you still underestimate his awareness to get the ball to important team mates
2. Love to see the goal stats playing for warnock for saville. Your use of stats is based to support your thin argument
3. Utter tripe. He covers an unbelievable amount of ground and is tough mentally
4. He isn’t one of those players that picks up loads of useless yellows like Clayton did and yet saville often breaks up play winning 2nd balls.

Look, saville could improve his distribution by moving the ball much quicker thus dragging the opposition around more leading to more opposition errors
He can improve his scoring ratio but it’s improved with Warnocks guidance
He is a key team member that allows more creative types to blossom

Back off and take a breath....

I would certainly argue with 1, he regularly doesn’t show for the ball moving into space, when he does get it he is very prone to passing it straight back while pointing at someone else so he doesn’t get it again.

He has show he can pick a pass and get into the box on occasions which makes it all the more frustrating when he shows no intention of doing this in games such as yesterday.

You’re the one getting worked up

He was poor yesterday. I don't like the Howson, Morsy, Saville as a midfield three and out of the three yesterday I'd have hooked Saville when we were 11 v 10.

Not sure who I'd put on but there were arguments to be made for Roberts, Watmore or Wing.

I’m pointing out your lack of football knowledge along with a few others on here. No one can suggest a credible name to replace him
I’m not saying he’s a world beater but he isn’t woeful as you and others suggest

he is just average another of our 4/10 players ( 4 games very good, 3 games average at best , 3 games didnt turn up)

Saville is slow to think, slow to move and slow to move the ball.
He slows us down.
Attributes very limited.
He can't do what Morsy does, he is simply too soft.
He can't do what Howson does, he has no class or speed of thought and way less technique.
He can't do what Tavernier does, he simply hasn't the drive, energy or mindset.
He does nothing else better.

Seems like the consensus is that he is just a below average lower league midfield plodder. Who cost £7m. It’s not requisite of anyone to suggest a replacement, I am not sure why you are bringing that up. I am simply saying he is a poor player and synonymous with the poor football that is dished up week after week.
