Sell Rogers 12.5m

Still can’t see where these 20m+ valuations of rogers are coming from, I know they are different positions, but is he more value than gyokeres was last season ??

To me personally he’s a bog standard Boro player with some potential, but some figures being talked about tonight I find rediculous

Different things affect a fee. Two big things in Rogers favour are youth and the fact he's English.
A better comparison probably is Alex Scott who Bournemouth spent £25 million on despite him having a serious knee injury.
What you've got to remember we're not talking about what a player is worth in a sensible world but the crazy, crazy world of Football.
Also "bog standard". Words fail me.

Gyokeres had 1 year left on his contract.

It's not as simple as who the better player is. Rogers isn't as good as Gyokeres, no one is saying he is.

He's certainly not worth £20m (yet, which is also a factor) .

But some of the figures talked about aren't what his "valuation" as a player is. It's what might convince the club to sell given he's under a long contract, it's a bad time of year to lose a player, he's got potential to be worth much more and there'll probably be interest in him in the summer so we could probably cash in then anyway.

That's where those fees are coming from.

Gus Hamer went for £15 million, and he was in his last year of his contract I think?
Ah OK, but had done it for a couple of consecutive years the same as Gyokeres hence the sums of money paid, but if villa are prepaid to pay top dollar then so be it, as I said above Boro will have a figure which will allow us to do other business that is needed I.e. a CF and a winger LHS to compensate Jones on the RHS with pace

I'm a massive fan of both those players you mention . Two of the best players in recent years in the championship. Also agree a Striker particularly is a priority.

Not sure I see the point?

It is pretty unlikely that we're going up this season and I have seen no suggestions of realistic targets for us. Hopefully the recruitment team do have someone in mind but if there is no one out there... Well we're not going down so we look to build for next season. We'll probably lose Rogers and Hackney in the summer but that should give us some real spending power.

We're 3 points off the play offs, that's the equivalent of one win. Our seasons far from over. If Coburns goal hadn't been wrongly disallowed on Saturday we'd have had exactly the same points as we had after the same games last season. Everything to play for and I think the position we need to strengthen is up front.

We're three points off the play offs which gives you a one in four chance WHEN you get there. I've seen too many short term gambles on promotion I'd rather see us build a team and a squad that can get us up and have chance to keep us up. As I said it's the lack of options that make me think this way. Langstaff and Shankland don't excite me or make think they would be the answer to our problems. Perhaps the recruitment team have a card up their sleeves another Archer would be nice but don't waste money in January that can be better used in the summer

Fair enough I acknowledge above points, I personally think 7-8 million is a fair valuation, however will Boro reinvest full amount? and if the resell clause man city apparently have is what is rumoured then maybe it isn’t worth selling him at that price

I'd not bet the farm on a big money striker maybe for the reasons you mentioned. I would personally like us to look into a loan deal, maybe Kieffer Moore.
We definitely, definitely shouldn't have the mentality of "we probably won't go up, so let's not even think about how we can improve at the moment." That would be ridiculous.

Sure Carrick has said he doesn’t want players that won’t be here beyond the end of the season. I can’t see us loaning anyone.

The only reason we loaned Ayling is due to injuries.

A lot’s going to depend on Morgan and his advisors. He’s going to be a top player, needs to pick the right move. Hopefully he’s patient and prepared to give us a year?

If Latte Lath is fit soon, I'd maybe stick with what we've got but if he's not it leaves us very short up front as Coburn needs an operation I think? As short, maybe shorter due to injuries than we were at right back.
Big decisions to be made!

I initially thought £15m +sell on %. After last night, feeding off scraps he was not far off a hat trick against a premier league team. I think I underestimated his value to be honest.
So you now agree with my 35 mil one then or 25 at least.

First time for a long time I feel very disillusioned with the club football.
Doesn't make sense really, sell Rogers so we can try and buy a player as good with potential which we might sell on again within 6 months ?

So we do identify another player who we try to sign, and would be telling this player we are trying to build a team to get promoted. I must admit Aston Villa in PL is a big thing to let pass you for Rogers.
The current manager may see this as poor ambition for a football club in reality, which undoes his plans in the long run.

It also sends out a message and we could lose McGree, Hackney perhaps Jones in the summer.

The other side of the coin is we may as well buy the likes of McGoldrick, players who have had their day and we are confident we can keep them. But that wont keep the club going will it?, even if we do manage to stay mid-table.

As this season seemed to be about buying younger skilful players with potential, but it has shown its not an easy path to get them the playing experience, but we have manage to, and in doing so has shown some inconsistency, mainly due to the learning curve of the championship for the new boys.
They may be up to speed next season with any luck.

Will Carrick stay and commit?, the football is definitely brighter and much better to watch than the Pulis rubbish, Warnocks shoite and Wilders runarounds.

However, really I think I know myself what we are, but have been unable to accept it, we have to flog on to survive. I thought after Tavernier was sold we could use the cash to rebuild, we have I suppose, but now seem to be on the verge of repeating it. I've been kidding myself.
Perhaps the best opportunity was last season but we blew it.

Deals like this take a long time, they'll be discussions going on over this transfer constantly.

Even before last night - we'll be deep in negotiations with a fee pretty much agreed i bet, no matter what carrick states publically.

Although it would be nice for last nights goal to add a couple of million, i highly doubt it works like that.
