Sunderland Season Ticket Sales

£90 cheaper than our cheapest early bird adult renewal.
£154 cheaper than our cheapest early bird adult new buyer.

That's a major difference.

Then there's presumably going to be a big jump in prices for our general sale.

Then there's their concession prices...
Yeh fair enough adult prices arent far out but kids prices are a joke in comparison. Weve had this discussion about our prices so many times and nothing ever changes.

Our prices are

North and South Stand

Adult: £480, £544

Over-65: £350, £405

18-21: £286, £315

Under-18: £186, £211

North West and South West Corners

Adult: £480, £544

Over-65: £350, £405

18-21: £286, £315

Under-18: £186, £211
I think those prices were only available until the end of March.

In fairness, they can get away with having their tickets cheaper because they have a much bigger fanbase than we do.

If we had the same pricing I reckon we'd only gain a few extra thousand season ticket holders, and long-term, it would surely lead to a loss in revenue if everyone is paying less for their season tickets.

The club probably have it more or less right when it comes to ticket pricing - my only gripe is that I think they should be making it more affordable for the kids.
We had there ticket prices we wouldn’t be getting far off what they get

I'm sorry, I wish I could agree with you but I don't believe that would be the case.

I expect us to average 25/26k next season. If we had Sunderland's prices we would probably average 27/28k.

Let's not forget 10 or so years ago we were averaging crowds of 13/14k, and we had crowds of 23k during our last few seasons in the Premier League.

I just don't think we have a large hardcore fanbase but that's fine, as most clubs in the Championship are in the same boat.

We averaged 27,000 under carricks reign, we have already sold more early bird season tickets than last seasons entire ST sale. Your looking at us averaging around 28,000/29,000 with that in mind not 25k. Our fanbase is the 16th biggest in the country historically and not many clubs have averaged 30,000 plus more than us. To compare our fanbase to most championship clubs is harsh because not many in the league have a bigger fanbase than us

When I referred to us not having a large hardcore fanbase, I meant in comparison to Sunderland. You initially said you believe we would come close to averaging similar crowds to them if we had the same pricing but I'm not so sure we would.

We do have one of the biggest fanbases in the Championship but what I meant was that like ourselves, no other club in the Championship has a fanbase as big as Sunderland. That will change of course next season, with Leeds dropping down.

My son loves City bit also enjoys watching boro. Last year toom him to the Riverside 5 or 6 times and watched City 3 times.

So HM's point is valid. With cheaper season tickets I would no doubt convert him.

I don’t think the difference is as big as people think. I honestly think with a little bit of clever ownership and some reasonable deals we would pack the riverside most weeks. Prices put so many off especially for an area like ourselves

Season tickets are one thing. The fanbase we should be looking at bringing in are ones who work some weekends etc. The casual fan who a ST isn't a option due to other commitments.

The walk up prices are shocking. £32 to watch a match in the champo. I also include our tickets for away fans in that. Ridiculously high in comparison to many away days.

If you have every weekend off then you'll probably buy a season ticket regardless. I guess cheaper ones may add a couple of thousand. Yet still reliant on someone who's free most weekends (kids).

I guess it's all hand in hand. If you significantly reduce a season ticket then you'd have to reduce walk up prices.

Then again something has to pay for the likes of Steffens and Archers loan deals. We can't have it all

I still laugh at the name of the stand they closed during their long spell in league one

The premier concourse…. 😛

You could be right - I've actually always felt as though we could do better in terms of our home support, as I feel we have a pretty big catchment area. We should be able to attract more support in places like Whitby and Scarborough in particular. Maybe better pricing would make a big difference.

At the same time though, think back to our attendances during the Premier League years. We only managed to consistently sell out 34k every home game during the 98/99 and 99/00 seasons. We didn't even manage to consistently sell out the season we finished 7th.

We are within the 18/25 biggest clubs in the country we are upper end medium sized low end big. We are not the small town club people like to make out it will always be the main club for the entire of Teesside which is Middlesbrough Stockton Redcar/Cleveland and Billingham that’s a catchment area of 500,000 for one club. I find the small town club narrative people play us for a little bit undermining as if you look at our traditional support we are relatively large club with a sizeable area to pick from. Up until 2006/2007 our premier league averages were great. 35,000 is a large stadium and other clubs our size Southampton, Norwich etc wouldn’t fill that many on a regular basis, the crowds from 2009/2014 were really poor and was a low point for the club but I don’t see us ever going back to that even under woodgate we still averages around 20,000, but yea your right boro should do more to appeal to further south and not just sit on the little old boro throne cause it’s not true and never will be

The population of the area described is 376k. Not huge against other major conurbations.
