Take a meter reading today...

Not unless you're still on a fixed rate deal?
If you're lucky enough to be on a fixed rate deal, then no, you don't need to.

But, if like me, your energy supplier went bust, got moved to a new supplier without a decent fixed rate deal, then yes, take a reading.

If you're on a smart meter you also don't need to unless you set consent to monthly instead of daily/half hourly

Don't inflate your readings. To get much meaningful discount you'll probably trigger a manual reading threshold, so it's pointless as it will get corrected.

Yes I'm fortunate but only a little bit.
My deal runs out at the end of June so I'm getting two months at the cheaper rate.

After that my variable monthly payment is forecast to be £194. Not sure how that compares with others but it's a big hole in the family budget 😔

My monthly payments go from £130 to £230 per month. That's a big jump.

Trying to get onto the Eon website, looks like it's crashed. Everyone trying to input their meter readings at the same time.
Might try again tonight at one minute to midnight.

My deal with Octopus ended in Feb. The variable rate at the moment is about 1/8 of the fixed rates on offer. So variable is actually cheaper and capped. Fixed rates don't have a cap. Worth looking at in detail on a case by case basis before doing anything.

They'd get screwed for doing that, it's the kind of thing that people say like "brown envelopes at the planning meeting" that doesn't really actually happen. It's more because websites are meant to handle a set load of users and every outlet in the country is telling people to do this today so capacity is overloaded

"Nice trousers...they remind me of a story I know.
Quite a long story...it lasts about fifteen minutes.
Erm, once...once upon a time there...there was a big forest... And in the middle of the forest, there lived...some trousers. Called...Dave..."
