That’s it then. No Deal

The cost of Brexit to the economy (~ £200bn) and society in general has already been huge, before we even get to 31st December.

Business's have spent countless hours on attempts to prepare themselves for something they still don't know the outcome of, this is totally unacceptable.

The trade deals announced so far are completely underwhelming and produce no real benefit against the huge loss of being in a free trading block, with free movement.

Rishi Sunak didn't even mention Brexit in his budget a few weeks ago, this tells everyone that there's no positives here, only negatives and stating those would undermine the governments obvious no deal leanings to satisfy the ERG and their backers.

We were lied to, we've had false promises made, broken and made again. An election on the back of an "oven ready deal" that actually wasn't what they said it was at all (our fault obviously) and the constant rewriting of history to avoid scrutiny.

Brexit is the defining moment of a generation and could cause severe hardship to the nation, yet there's still no tangible benefit being provided by its backers 4 years on.

This was all decided on the back of a referendum that was flawed and comprising of rhetoric and bluster rather than fact or reasonable debate.

We both know you won't/can't answer it but I'm going to humour you, which is more than a brexiteer deserves .

Can you name some benefits of brexit that outweigh the reduction in freedom of movement, lack of trade deals and money already spent on Brexit?

I expect you to say "yes" without being able to give them, such is your style.
Well if thats you asking nicely we are all buggered.

My views are my own and as such are purely my opinion. as a result id be wasting my time on the likes of you.

How on earth have you got to that conclusion?

This isn't about banning free thought, it is about encouraging better thought.

People are free to make mistakes and guess what, people are also free to learn from them and not make them again. And surely that should be the aim?

Do you have a policy in your personal life of continuing to make the same mistake over and over again?

The problem with brexit, indeed with a lot of political choices, is that people did not employ the principles they usually employ in their own lives.

You are absolutely entitled to live in denial, you are absolutely free to make mistakes repeatedly, you are absolutely entitled to remain ignorant if you wish. My question to you is surely that should not be your aim?

What you and still a significant number of brexiters think is that this was a simple difference in values with Remainers. What you really have to understand - it's way overdue, mate - is that there was a difference in thought process long before we ever get to the values part.

If the question is what colour should our new flag be and 52% pick red and 48% pick blue, then red is right answer because it is entirely a value judgement. *

If the question is what does 2+2= and 52% say 5 while only 48% say 4 then in this instance the answer isn't 5 because that is what the majority said it was.

Then there are questions which are a mixture. New cars, for instance, come in a range of colours, but often most of these colours cost more. Now, it may well be that the supplement for the red car is more than the blue. That might put you off, or you might think it is a price worth paying, but at least you made an informed decision.

With Brexit, you could check with experts in What Car and Which magazine who would tell you that Red comes with a pretty hefty price tag, but you chose to listen to Boycey, Swiss Tony and Arfur Daley who said 'don't listen to experts, there is no extra cost, well maybe a tiny one, but we can tell you that once you've signed this binding contract'. Why did you do that? Usually, you wouldn't, but you sooo wanted the red car, didn't you?

* of course in the case of Brexit it ended up being a choice between Blue and Not Blue, which is why many Remainers are angry. You're getting the Yellow, which is what you voted for, since it is Not Blue, but which hardly anyone at the time preferred to Blue. Which is why there should have been a better organised 1st referendum in the first place, or at least a second one once the new colour was decided.

Brilliant. Sadly it'll right go right over the head of any of the dwindling number of people still daft enough to think brexit was a good idea.

As Brexit cliff edge looms, miles of trucks stack up near southern English port

DOVER, England (Reuters) -Trucks heading towards the English port of Dover were stacked up for miles on Thursday, just three weeks before Britain exits the European Union’s orbit in a potentially tumultuous finale to the five-year divorce, a Reuters photographer said.

Reuters pictures showed truck queues snaking into the night-time horizon. There was a queue ahead of the Eurotunnel freight entrance but the main tailback was on the approach to the Dover port terminal.

Logistics groups have reported surging demand from companies trying to bring parts, goods and food into the country before Britain leaves the EU’s single market and customs union, a move that is expected to cause even more disruption in January.

Highways England said there were high volumes of freight traffic heading towards the Port of Dover and that lorries had been stacked up along some roads to prevent the port from becoming overwhelmed.

The British government has warned that even with a trade deal, 7,000 trucks heading for the Channel ports in south-east England could be held in 100-km (62-mile) queues if companies do not prepare the extra paperwork required.

Morgan Stanley to shift $120 billion to Germany in post-Brexit move: source

By Reuters Staff
2 Min Read

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley is planning to shift around 100 billion euros ($121 billion) in assets to Frankfurt from Britain next year as a consequence of Brexit, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Thursday.

Frankfurt’s banking scene has been one of the primary beneficiaries of Britain’s exit from the European Union as many big global banks chose Germany’s financial capital to house staff and assets. Dozens of financial institutions have applied for licenses in Germany.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal planning, said that the volume of assets slated for transfer was a rough estimate and would likely be moved in the first quarter of next year.

Britain and the European Union are currently in discussions to hammer out a post-Brexit trade deal.

Banks that have increased their presence in Frankfurt include Citigroup , JPMorgan , Standard Chartered and Goldman Sachs .

Frankfurt has been dubbed Bankfurt or Mainhattan, after the river Main that the city straddles.

A steady increase in banking jobs has however likely come to an end because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a study by German lender Helaba.

Bloomberg first reported Morgan Stanley’s plans.

mine was to 40+ years of membership but the point is the same.

No, it's not right to counter an analogy of one event or situation with an analogy of a different event or situation.

What you could do is present a different analogy of that same event, but that's tricky because however you do it you didn't know what the new meal is, nor how much you are going to pay. Did I mention the rest of the street are stood outside the restaurant window, pointing at you for forking out £500 for a turd sandwich, by the way?

In your opinion....

I see you remoaners are still struggling with Fact and Opinion.

Exactly. Same as before ably demonstrating why people are so upset by people like him.

I actually don't mind ignorance per se. There are lots of subject I'm ignorant on. Its the fact he celebrates it, makes ignorance, and selling out his own county, a badge of honour
Not only that , you can see into the future, Paul Daniels couldn't

So this site's admin and mods are ok with boro x3's nonsense but suspend RV? Have a word gentlemen
I hold a different opinion. its as much a nonsense as your opinion of what you hold to be dear.

I have not been abusive, I have not bought the board in to disrepute. I just have a different grasp of the glass half full/half empty arguement.

Do you think I should be punished for that?

Not necessarily, I was drawing a comparison with another poster who has been 'punished' for expressing his views on an equally emotive subject.
