The Highest Excess Mortality Rate in Europe

People bored and uninterested in 000s of deaths
It’s a bit like a video game isn’t it. Lets just switch it off and start again.

The post wasn’t political but begs questions. If there are good reasons it would be nice to know.

I mean when you look at the excess deaths today... Far more 'excess' from non covid deaths. That's before you even look at what a covid death is...

The press have scared people so much that they darent go to **** hospital and all you lot can say is **** the Tories.. Well yes don't vote for them I won't but meanwhile we sit in our homes, deprive our immune system of the energy it needs and become sedentary. Yet all of you lot shouting the Tories down also want to be further locked in, wake up.

Why are you sat in your home? The majority of people I know are spending more time outdoors than they did pre lockdown

I’m lucky I have a garden. When I wasn’t working from home I sat in an office, I popped out for 10 minutes for lunch. Im now regularly in my garden. I’m exercising a little more, walking to town for groceries etc

The fact is you can blame the press, but we have far more excess deaths than any other country. May I add it’s England only too, this isn’t replicated in Wales Scotland or Northern Ireland. It’s nothing to do with the press, it’s fall at the governments door and how the handled it.

Plus this 3 week headstart stuff is b***ks.

It's been in this country undetected since the New Year. That science group in Iceland basically confirmed that in the interview on sky news yesterday.

It's also fairly obvious to anybody with any common sense that China has more deaths and infections than any other country, not that it's a competition which some people would make you believe.

Doesn’t that mean it was in other countries earlier as well. So we still had 3 weeks headstart. We knew the devastation it was going to cause this country but we still sat on our hands.

In January we were told by the health secretary we were prepared

Here is a 2 1/2 minute video from the Sky news site last night showing the figures in a slightly different way.

I am not going to comment on this video. Apart from saying that Sky point out that there is no specific documented reason for the additional deaths (over and above the ones documented as coronavirus).

I will leave people to draw their own conclusions.

I have a big garden, a girlfriend and a dog that both need walking (🤣) and do a home gym workout 4-5 night's a week as well as having to go to the 'office' every few weeks due to the nature of my job.
When I'm talking about these things I'm talking about the general public and in particular the older people.
I am not worried about myself I know I'm 99.99% likely to be fine from the disease.

Spot on Randy Savage, I'm sick of hearing about it to be honest. Many of the posters on here seem to revel in the doom and gloom, anything to reinforce their political stance. As if anything they say makes a difference to the situation (n)

I'm not interested in politics btw. Billy and Bear provide good stats without the political bias...
Well put Nobby, it goes quiet fot a few days then someone will post something bad & depressing & here we go again
Yes we're all living through this awful crises & its not going to get any better soon but I think certain people thrive on it
Bear & Billy post useful info which I constantly read

Ye that’s a good point. I forget that people I typically know are in their 30’s and 40’s

Ye old/vulnerable people been screwed over by the measures in this country

Its reasonably simple though isn’t it.
It’s a message board where people post messages. There are a number of options
1. Read the message and participate
2. Ignore the message because you think it wont be for you
3. Read the message and tell everyone its not for you

3 seems a bit weird to me but - hey ho

People aern't though finny, not one bit, you can go on the Internet & read the latest news, why post it on a football message board, OK, it's not only football related but come on, the older board was saturated with politics let's try & keep it off here
A lot of it is scare mongering, I agree the government were slow & still aren't truthful in what they've done, is happening, I'm as worried as the next person & at times have had a panic attack, when the lockdown came end of march this place helped me & I know others with how people were coping & the togetherness & then more & more political posts started appearin

Or 4 state what you think that certain posters are just posting doom & gloom for political scores
Just as easy isn't it

There are facilities that help on here. Ignore user is one.

Also, there is another facility that would be useful. At present there is no ignore thread option on this board.

If I remember rightly that is not available at present built in to the software that runs the forum. However I think there is a third part option for allowing people to ignore a thread.

Such a facility would make it easier those who want to focus on specific things on here.

I would probably not use it very often. However I feel it could others a lot.

I disagree with them both on this subject a lot and have had many back and forths with the @bear66 but we've always been genial about it.
Keep your chin up though kid 😉, try to not listen to the media on this one they are only going to make you feel worse and get out as much as you can.

My take on the more general debate on this thread is as follows. We could all perhaps do more between us to focus information on specific existing threads. Rather than start new ones each time.

Why start a new thread when you can use the search facility to just post what you want onto the end of an existing one?

This is a variant on the match day threads discussion that comes back again from time to time (when we have matches of course).

Mind you I have already had a bollocking off someone recently for suggesting that people do that. So people do perhaps seem to want multiple threads they or others have started on a subject. Or do not have a look via search first before starting a new thread.

I think it’s quite easy to ignore threads personally. There are plenty of threads we’re ive viewed once and haven’t gone back in, where as with people the can pollute a thread you have a genuine interest in

I have yet to ignore anyone mind

Yes - having a go at someone is really easy too
Not having a go at anyone finny, I've not once had a dig at you over all the years we've both posted on either flyme & I'm not starting now, we have different opinions, yes posted 3 points & I posted a 4th & IMHO, this board will soon, sadly, follow the older one

I agree. I am the same. However I feel that having a tool to help is a little easier than doing it yourself.

On the one hand, it is entirely natural that we, as individuals, seek to understand the world around us and, at this moment, it is dominated by this disease and the rather confusing responses to it. It's also quite natural, in the face of a media (old and new) saturated with coverage to want an escape from it. To be honest, that is easily done .... get out and walk somewhere, do jobs etc Even just ignore threads (you don't need an ignore button to do that). People will usually try to frame events according to their own world view. So those on the left of centre will blame the state of the NHS on the Tory neglect of the health service, Brexit and the fact that they ignored their own advisors when it came to preparing for this epidemic. Those on the right, who probably voted Tory, will scream that this is not a time to be politicising the crisis. One thing I can say from my point of view, it has been good to see the Tory government implementing socialist policy as a result of the pandemic ... though I suspect I'll be less keen if they try to claw furlough/business interuption payments back via aurterity rather than tax rises. Can't win em all. Seriously though, tough times and it's good to have this place for stuff like the music threads and more general discussion. And I think, by and large, debate has been civil.
