The lads who left the Boro in the Summer?

I know we didn’t own 3 of the 4 lads who had a great season for us last year but they can’t be enjoying life in their new homes? Giles can’t get a start in a really average Luton side. Akpom having a nightmare at Ajax who don’t seem to have ever wanted him. Archer working hard in a team destined for relegation.Ramsey - not starting presumed injured? They may never have had the option of staying at the Boro but really disappointing to see lads we cheered on last season now in football wastelands this time around (all be it with a big wad of money in their pockets).

Archer fitted in well with the Boro as did Giles so gutted we couldnt sort a deal out this season ,,, we are doing great at the moment so no looking back

Can't blame any of them for wanting a crack at the premier league, but from a footballing development perspective the youngsters would all have been better having at least another year under Carrick. Plus if their clubs wanted to sell rather than loan, not much we could do about it.

Nature of the game these days unfortunately. If a young player shows any form, clubs can't afford to wait before making a move. Prem clubs can blow championship clubs out of the water on wages and afford to take a gamble.

Giles is probably the worst move. It's probably him finished now as a premier league player in the short to mid term at least and was very foreseeable.

As good as he was, he still had some rough edges while here, but the defensive side of his game was slowly improving. Now he's probably going to spend a season barely getting a kick and he'll end up going into next season, with a rep as a 24 year old left back who can't defend with only one full season of first team football under his belt.

What I find odd with Giles is that he's really only a converted left back isn't he, I'm pretty sure naturally his position is more as a left winger, can see in his defending he's just not naturally any good at it and it's clearly not a skill he's come through learning for years. I dunno why Luton wouldn't just cut their losses on him having as a left back and free him up further up the pitch and make use of his delivery.

Sad thing for Giles is that we've filled his position.

Even if he wanted to come back here, it's unlikely the club would want him now.

Archer and Akpom would obviously still walk in the team.

Akpom's situation is the most baffling.
Signed after one of the best ever individual seasons for a number 10 in the Championship, and then played as a winger in the only start he's had.
Not even fair to say he's struggling individually, Ajax are just a shambles right now.

Huge game for Ajax today away to Utrecht who are currently bottom of the league in 18th spot btw AJAX are currently 16 th!!!! On 5pts (PSV are top on 27 pts )

So if he’s not starting or playing in this then you’d have to ask when will he.

I hope Chuba turns things around, left Boro with a big "thanks, all the best".

But he's stepped into a horrible situation at Ajax and can't see it ending well for him as the club struggles.

Take him back on loan with a £2m permanent deal agreed. Sorted👍

His wages might be a problem!

They did us a favour in a transition season - with a recovering team and a complete rebuild taking place inside the club.
They were all brilliant [though personally I had my doubts over Steffen].
Im sure we all hope they get on well in their careers, but walking back into a dressing room with the "I am" tag, would only cause problems.
We`ve moved on.
Never go back. (y)

Let's face it: they didn't just leave for money, they also wanted to test themselves at a higher level. All players want that: it the competitive edge that you need as a pro.

If they fail in the top flight, at least they won't die wondering if they could have cut it.

I reckon one of Archer, Giles and Ramsey will survive anyway. Who it is will probably be decided by matches against the other 2. Archer will be in the PL next season regardless of whether SU survive.

I’m not fussed on having any of them back. Can’t really remember a player ever returning and being as good or better in their second spell?

Juninho was worth the risk but he’s special, and was very good in his third spell.
