The tories weaponising ULEZ

It's the completely wrong way to do something that seems like it would be the right thing. It's only London for now but the rest of the country will be on it at some point.

Anything where poor people will suffer and the rich will not care about paying it is unfair. Rich people can drive the worst performing car and just pay the fine but they can also far more easily just buy a new car. When they do where does their old car go? A less well off person buys it second hand.

I'm sure most people want the zone to be as emission free as possible but should disproportionately punishing the small number of people that can't afford to do anything about it he the way to go? It seems like offering incentives to go green is more fair than disincentives to those that can't afford to make the right choice.
Nano Ulez is not a green policy. It has nothing to do with zero immisions. It is to stop the 4 thousand odd people that die prematurely in London, every year.

Bottom line is something needs to be done about London's air quality.

Look here:

You can search by postcode, score goes from 0 - 100, lowest is best. I did our address here in Northumberland, score was 7. I picked a central London postcode to check, score was 99.

People should not have to live in that much pollution.

The problem with london is not cars but the ammount of people who work there. There is no need to have such a concentrated ammount of people in such a small place. Move more jobs north make it more and more unafoardable to live and work in the **** hole.

Jesus, I wasn't expecting it to bring up a picture of my house!

12 though, which isn't that bad considering I live fairly close to Teesport.

14 for my address and, whilst I live on Teesside, I'd imagine I live further from Teesport than you (as you say you live 'fairly close').

I do live on a main road though, which just goes to demonstrate the point. It's cars which cause the greatest problem with air pollution, not industry.

In the late 80's or early 90's there was a group monitoring pollution across Teesside. The worst area was Acklam Road in Boro, pre Marton crawl days.

22 here due to proximity to the A19.

Has anyone noticed a London ULEZ- scrappage effect on the used car market in Teesside? Are compliant cars going up in price; non-compliant going down?
Should be some bargains if you don't mind a 520 mile round trip to deliver/collect.

If you live in an area with decent public transport, you eventually get used to not having a car. Also saves you a bit of money on insurance, petrol, tax and car maintenance. Get a bike for the short journeys or walk. Hire a car when you need it. A lot of this is behavioral economics and people used to having cars. We can live without all of us having one.

Only d***heads drive in London anyway, mate
Clearly you have NEVER lived in London. You are confusing Inner and Outer London. In Sutton where I live the only other option to a car is a limited bus service. Come down and see what I mean if you think all London drivers are d**heads.

So vote for a party that ensures the rich pay their fair share in taxes, and doesn't privatise public transport making it too expensive and a rubbish service for the poor, that in itself is a separate issue to air quality.
