Time wasting

Is ruing the game. All teams are guilty but I'm getting sick of the blatant time wasting overall. It's about time the FA take a leaf out of the RUFC's book and let the Refs brief the players prior to the game.
1. Goal keepers have 20 seconds to take a goal kick
2. None of this faffing about leaving the field when subbed (WTF was that today, jogging on the spot shoite getting off the pitch)
3. Facing off with the ref should be a yellow, Captain and perpetrator only with the Ref.
4. Feigning injury during injury time should extend injury time.
5. Touching the ball when it has nothing to do with you should be a yellow, ie kicking it away, delaying a free kick.

The game is becoming unwatchable.

The worst for me yesterday was when the ref used his vanishing spray to mark 10 yards and their man blatantly stood in front of it, ie the wrong side. What the the ref do….? Nothing (meaningful) of course. Told him to get the right side, then watched him step back in front of it another 3/4 times

Glad it's not just me narked at this aspect of the game.

Also when the keeper takes an easy catch then falls to the floor and takes another minute to get back up, make sure no one is around them, have a look up the pitch then get rid of the ball. 30 seconds from catching the ball / having full control or it's an indirect free kick.

And the number of players suddenly coming down with cramp after an hour........

Every team does it, and it's annoying when your team is chasing the game.
55 mins is the Average time a ball is in play during a 90 min match, which is shocking, maybe injury time should be doubled when time wasting is blatant

Even Jones kicked the ball away, when it was their throw in, in front of the west stand, when we were getting beat, very odd.
Jones has made some odd decisions this season. I think he gets wrapped up in trying to get one up on his opponent rather than thinking of the bigger picture, as in your post. His 5 yellows to get him suspended weren’t nasty or dangerous tackles, just general pettiness and probably avoidable if he’d had the level head to be able to think about it before committing.

I didn't see that or do you mean the one where he threw it to Diaz who deliberately didn't catch it and then did it again when the ball boy gave him it. As I've said in another thread the five subs is a joke in this aspect, it seems easy for teams other than us to kill the last 15 minutes.

The worse thing was in injury time when we got a freekick and their player just laid on top of the ball. When Howson tried to retrieve the ball it flares up into a ruckus and one of their players makes out there has been a stamping.Next thing that chewy little substitute is pushing everyone causing more mayhem, the referee sorts that out,Then comes standing over the ball and the encroaching and hey presto 2 of the 5 minutes injury time has gone.

I never see the point in booking the keeper, because they continue to do it afterwards. Has a keeper ever been given two yellows for time wasting? I’d be very surprised if there’s been one.

Referee’s just don’t seem to care, it means less work for them.
Agree. The meaning less hand gestures from refs annoy me as well, particularly at goal kicks. Hall goes out, thrown back to keeper who doesn’t see it/miscontrols it/takes it to other side of his box. Ref speaks to keeper about getting on with it, runs to halfway line, gives hand signal to say get on with it, keeper messes on a bit more, another 15/20 seconds until it’s eventually taken.

Someone made a good point on here the other week. Maybe the refs need a breather and aren’t actually that bothered about the time wasting as it helps them fill the lungs. They need to be seen to be enforcing it so maybe give a little hand gesture to say hurry up, but then 15-20 seconds later it’s still not taken but it goes unpunished, most of the time.

Any time wasting should result in double the time accumulared from it added onto injury time

Perhaps an easier way of dealing with the time wasting is to get the 4th Official to take control of the playing time, similar to the way it is done in Ice Hockey.
So, say, from about 75 mins played, everytime the ball goes out of play he stops the clock and doesn't start it again until the ball is back in play.

No need for injury time and everyone can see when the 90 mins is up!

Teams are wasting time from about 10 mins in now , as pointed this keepers falling down etc is blatent, even when yr side is winning its bloody annoying , the added time yesterday was a joke where best part of it was purely wasted . Rule changes desperately needed & not one where teams instantly turn it to their advantage , ala where to take goal kicks from .....after a walk around pretending to choose a side to take it etc

He deliberately didn't catch the one from the ball boy , but Jones threw it past him

Should have had 2 yellows yesterday imo, until someone gets sent off for 2 yellows with at least 1of them for time wasting nothing will change

Until the sport and fans accept that changing to 60 minute games and stopping the clock when the ball is out of play is the solution then time wasting doesn't bother me in the slightest. Teams have done it forever, it's allowed, nothing will stop them doing it.

Posted this yesterday in the refereeing thread.......

Spooky

The keeper one is easy, they should just change the rule so it is a free kick in the box or even a penalty to the opposition. Keepers waste time the whole game whenever they want to, knowing fine well the worst they might get is a yellow then another thirty seconds or a minute to take the kick they were going to anyway. There is virtually no deterrent to them wasting time. Same with injuries and cramp from defending set plays etc. the time is never actually got back in full, their player jumps up a minute later and is absolutely fine.

Anyone know of an instance of a keeper actually being sent off for two yellows for time wasting?

The rules around time wasting, 'game management' and who keeps and control the time for the game clock is long overdue an overhaul in my opinion. Whether that means two 30 minute halves of actual 'ball in play' I don't know.

But I'm sick of it.

Probably because we're always chasing the game to try and get something out of it this season that it's phooking me off so much.
