Today at Middlesbrough council..

A lot of the older posters on here will know exactly who I am, i mean how dare I question local counsellors using a Boro forum to spread their political agenda. and then respond by calling me Andy. Are you 12 years old?
Is it the fact that TheLodger is now a councillor that you have a problem with, or is that he's a Labour councillor? Should TheLodger have quit the board when he got elected?

I'm no friend of The Labour Party at the moment. I'm not even a member anymore, but I have no problem with TheLodger posting on here. He seems like a decent bloke who just wants what's best for the area.

But this is exactly what I'm saying Lodger. Labour can't provide an alternative to the cuts that need to be made. We are being asked to vote on an unseen budget.
For most of my life Middlesbrough has been run by a Labour majority council. In that time I have seen many things.

The demolition of the Grand Opera House to make way for a two story red brick office building (that The Oven now occupies).
The demolition of Hugh Bell School.
The demolition of Tower House department store to make way for a flat pack McDonalds building.
The demolition of the Scientific Institute.
The demolition of the Odeon cinema to make way for a 27 story apartment block that was never built.
The demolition of the Corporation Hotel for a tin pot skyscraper.
And in the biggest act of vandalism ever visited upon this town, the deviation of the A66 from its original route, right through the town centre taking everything with it, including the Exchange Building and the Star & Garter Hotel.

Tell me no brown envelopes ever changed hands.
You've a lot to learn, none of the above was owned by Middlesbrough council, therefor Boro Labour will have had very little say in any of them, councils at that time didn't have any way of stopping private companies from knocking down unlisted buildings, indeed we have very few now.
As for the A66 that was a Cleveland county decision not a Middlesbrough one.

When I alleged that labour councillors never have an answer when asked what they would do budget wise, you replied with the comment "total nonsense." You have since failed to give an answer and expect us to wait until after the local elections. Why not tell us your alternative and ask us to vote on that?

See this got kicked into touch as well ATM but dare say we have not heard the last of it. Cannot believe that The Crown that was only purchased by the council last week would be one of the assets that would be transferred to the new MDC if it goes ahead. They paid £750000 for it. Others listed in article and below.

The assets that were lined up to be transferred were:

116-space Station Street car park - plans to transform this as part of a new mixed-use employment district, with improved footfall and live/workspaces to create a new community along Station Street.

Units under A66 along Wilson Street - an opportunity to improve the arches along Wilson Street to provide an increased sense of safety and increased footfall under the A66.

The Crown, the buildings on Linthorpe Road near the former pub, (147, 149, 151) and the 72-space Amber Street car park - plans for a mixed-use development to regenerate the area including student accommodation, leisure uses, business incubation space and car park.

Civic Centre - proposals to redevelop the site to increase the mix of uses around the open space.

93-space Buxton Street car park/ 32-space Jurys Inn car park - required to facilitate the development of the Gurney Triangle.

Broadcasting House Enterprise Centre/freehold of Sainsbury's site (Wilson Street) - both provide a gateway development opportunity.

Middlesbrough bus station - an opportunity to better integrate a modern transport hub.

Middlehaven, Middlesbrough Dock and surrounding land equating to almost 40 acres - plans for St Hilda’s housing development, internationally recognised anchor leisure attraction and mixed-use residential and commercial dockside development that will deliver waterfront living and working.

We will, we will have, like we always do, a full manifesto for the local elections in May

I've been on this board for around 18 years, and it's definitely getting worse and worse for politics and less and less football discussion.
There's 4 direct political posts on the front page today

Most the other threads are about boro or the most recent results / upcoming games / former players / football related the rest current events or local based

Hardly bad

Weird you're complaining about the lack of football discussion but then steamed into a thread talking about how much your EE bill is going up

The scientific institute was a listed building I believe, however somehow they managed to knock that down.

Did MBC knock it down or a developer?

This article says it was not listed and nothing legally wrong with what transpired, was wanted to be saved.

What has that got to do with the number of policital posts on here these days? I also posted on the one at the cinema

We have our budget ready for when this terrible administration collapses, we're coming up to elections, so of course we have budget plans. This is an independent ran council not Labour ran, It's the job of the incumbents to get a budget passed they are after all in the majority.

We are waiting and ready.

In other words... "We have it ready, but we're not going to show our constituents because we're too focused on red vs blue party politics".

If councilors from both sides spent half the amount of time improving the town as they do slagging each other off on social media platforms, we'd all be living in a better place.

You said there's loads of political posts and it's getting worse, I told you the amount of political posts is a huge 4.

You don't see the relevance?

You said it's a football forum but post about phone contracts and cinema

You don't see the relevance?

Post more boro content if you want more boro content
