Traore

Footballers these days are so fit it's easy for teams to quickly close down a player with the ball.

So the best teams are those that have players who can quickly control a ball passed to them, and then quickly release the ball to another player in some space, and so on.

Don't get me wrong, I am a massive Traore fan, and with the ball at his feet he is as dangerous and exciting as anyone on the planet.

But his biggest problem is getting the ball in the first place. His anticipation of a pass, and movement off the ball to find space to receive a pass, is shockingly bad.

This is a difficult skill to learn, it's something that tends to come naturally, yet it is essential if you're to play in a top team. Which is why (sadly) it will probably never happen.

You don’t have a player of his talents wandering around the midfield laying off little 5 yard balls just to satisfy whatever system Nuno has come up with to try to not lose a match.

When he got the ball on the wing Spurs had five defenders lining up on him, he needs a better team and manager to take advantage of the threat he poses.

I totally agree with this.

Even last season when everyone was raving about him I'd watch him and think, why are they trying to coach Adama into becoming a generic Premier League forward, and why is everyone so excited about this? The only difference was more of his crosses hit their target but he was much less exciting to watch.

I'm sure you could coach someone with the footballing intelligence of Ronaldinho to be a F***ing brilliant full back but what's the point?

Players with the gifts he has are one in a million. Still don't think I've seen a better dribbler with the combination of touch, speed and power other than prime Cristiano Ronaldo. It's jaw-dropping and unique what Adama can do and you can't defend against it. Even for us in the PL he made bunches of hardened top level defenders look like idiots. So why try and turn him into a Jesse Lingard, playing two touch and percentages?

Not sure what the future holds for him but he needs a manager and club who will embrace the enigma and just let him do what he wants. Can see him ending up tearing it up somewhere a bit more low pressure in Spain or being brilliant for someone like Ancelotti who embraces enigmas and builds the rest of the team around their deficiencies.

Looking at how he handled Adel Taarabt, Warnock would be a brilliant manager for him, ironically.

Put him on the right wing with a head the ball up front and he'd have 40 assists a year. It's a shame he wasn't around 20 years ago.
It is nonsense that he can't play in the modern game though. Teams play with high defensive lines. Perfect for a player like him who can break through the line and attack the space behind. Most managers would prefer he plays on the defenders shoulder and use his pace rather than his ability to beat a man. He's no good at that as his movements ****.

Having posted in favour of Adama above I do have a suspicion just now that he is playing for a move. His body language is terrible.

Personally I think that’s unprofessional by Traore but Nuno looks to be a difficult character to me (no evidence on that, just a view I’ve built up) so you never know what is going on behind the scenes.

He is so average that in his last match v Spurs, he had five defenders lining up on him whenever he got the ball on the wing.

That‘s the problem for an outstanding player in an average team, they can be played out of the game because a few other players aren’t doing anything to hurt the opposition.

He needs to move to a better team, I‘m sure he will before long.

Djota and Doherty going hasn't been good for Traore.

His overall impact is always going to be up for debate but if you don’t enjoying watching Traore with the ball then you need to find a new sport to watch. He’s an absolutely superb footballer and Nuno is obviously a massive toolbox who is crushing his talent and will.

No and it’s telling how they bailed out of Wolves to bigger clubs even though wolves have been on the rise in recent years, I think it shows they think the club is probably at its limit.

Watching the match at Man Utd tonight, Traore looks like the geeky kid who is was always last to be picked in school playground games.

Everything he tries goes wrong, he's not looking for the ball and when he gets it he messes up. It's hard to watch after the way he played last season.

He didn't have 5 defenders lining up on him tonight. He just ran down dark alleys, dead ends or made a poor pass.

Harsh assessment. Much of the time he was played out of position, chasing headers from forward balls that HE should be the one running on to. Having no CF or runners from midfield to pass or cross to doesn't help his cause.

I watched the second half he was quite poor and played on the right wing for the most part. He was ineffective tonight.

Just thought he could have done more with the opportunities he had.

He got the ball in a central position at one point in the second half, a good opportunity to turn and go at the man u defence. His first touch was so poor Luke Shaw just came across and slipped in to take the ball off him. I just don't think he's anywhere near at the moment.

To dismiss his performance on one example of bad play is as daft as praising his performance on one good example - the run down the middle after about 5 mins when he went past 4 players perhaps?

He barely had any opportunities from what I saw, there no forward runners and nobody in the box to pass to. If I were him I'd wonder why I was on the pitch.

I didn't dismiss his performance on one example. I gave one example.

Cheers

I didn’t see the match last night (watching the Boro - why weren’t you?) so will take your word for it. Not a happy ship just now though Wolves in my view.

I watched the second half and traore is better than he showed in this game. I am just not sure how much better. It may be wolves just don't suite him, I don't know about that but time will tell.
