Trying to get people out to the pubs again after Covid.

In the "old days" when a price rise was imminent a notice would appear on the pumps or perhaps on a noticeboard in the club apologising for the increase which would take effect on such and such a date, usually tow or so weeks in advance.
These days there is no warning. You just turn up at the pub and find the pint has increased by ?????? however much from the previous day.

Club prices are still competitive with JDs. My club is thriving at the moment but it's being run by a younger crowd so not all bingo, raffles and crap singers with backing tapes.
The club I go to needs to borrow them.

For cheap beer Guisborough has to be the place, we went the other week the average price was about £2.35 a pint.

Huge company that buys in bulk and distributes itself, which reduces cost significantly, no real TV costs or licensing fees from music, and crucially they have such a high footfall, along with their cheap, quick and easy to make food that they can afford to sell it cheaper.
either way it works!!!!!! good on them

It works if you want traditional pubs priced out of the market and soulless “fast food for pubs” chains to dominate. If you care about your social spaces, small businesses or the traditional British public it really doesn’t work
people go out for a pint after work and they will go to the cheaper places, thats a fact,if others cant compete, then they fall by the wayside, thats life im afraid

Sad isn’t it? People will sacrifice a lovely night out, let a great British tradition die, stifle small businesses and fund a company with a terrible record in treating it’s staff. Just for a cheap pint. Such a sad country we live in

If people are only going out for one and that's all they can afford then you can't blame them.

You can. That's even worse. If you're having a heavy night you'll save a fortune in a McSpoons.

But if you're just having an after work one surely the extra pennies are better spent in a comfortable environment? Preserving a traditional British way of life, supporting a local businessperson who more than likely doesn't treat their staff like crap?

While I'd agree if they can afford those extra pennies I don't feel that it's my place to manage other people's finances or criticise their prudence or otherwise given the current situation.

It’s not about that. If you must go to the pub you shouldn’t go to a place that ruins the pub.

Totally agree. Anyone who can't afford £5+ per pint should be instantly detained and locked up until breakfast time.
Yeah, let's be facetious as small businesses and a British way of life is being eradicated by a pile em high, sell em cheap firm with a terrible employment satisfaction record. Well done you

Agree, a spoons opening is basically the death of every other pub in a small town. Profit that the local area never benefits from and a legacy of ***** zero hour contract jobs that benefit no one but the owners

Sadly the tougher things get these sort of places will thrive as it’s all people can afford, and likely in some areas the only pub that will survive
