Trying to get people out to the pubs again after Covid.

How much are the breweries increasing their prices compared to the pub companies increasing theirs?

I'd love this type of info to be available so that we can make a more informed choice.
The biggest cost of a pint is tax , government could drop it but that's not going to happen is it

In my view a quite disgusting figure Tim Martin running Wetherspoons - pouring all that money into printing millions of his news papers - and ramming his BREXIT thoughts and rants through our letter boxes. Two years later complaining about lack of workers and calling for EU migrant workers returning. He rammed his ideas down our throats whether we wanted to hear it or not and I can only applaud anyone that doesn't want anything to do with his business.
What did you think of the government spending £millions on a pamphlet with the positives of Brexit? I work in a very multicultural business, the only difference I see is more from the African and Indian sub continent. Seems a benefit to me.

As for where people drink I would have thought it is nothing to do with you or Little Tory.

I'm not the one calling people scummy.

Would you do that to my face? I'm not a hard man to find. I'll either be at work, at home, the pub or a Boro game (you remember what one of those looks like don't you?)
To be fair when people where listing away grounds they had been to all he could really come up with was a few Rugby grounds. :sneaky:

Why do the admin put up with this crap from smalltown??

Calling people scummy??

Whenever there’s a flare up or argument on here there’s always one common denominator.

I would never asked for a poster to be banned off a forum, I believe in freedom of speech.

But surely a quiet word in his ear about ways he could interact with people, and maybe conduct himself in a less passive aggressive and patronising manner.

One minute he’s saying everyone should boycott JDW due to how they treat their staff. But then the next minute he’s saying it’s the “pub equivalent of a McDonalds”.

Now to me, that doesn’t add up. As I know people who have done graduate training at McD’s and they say the staff are looked after very well.

If we scrape beneath the charade of “destroying English pubs” or “treatment of workers” etc… does the fact smalltown is bringing McDonalds into the debate indicate it’s just small minded snobbery.

And *that*, is Kilroys thought for the day.

Chances are the vast majority working there are on UC anyway because of the ***** wages and being allowed to exploit zero hour contracts by essentially hiring 6 people for 1 role
So what's the answer then? Shut them all?
Zero hour contracts should be illegal I agree but they aren't. People continue to work there when there are thousands of vacancies available in the same industry, why is that?

A country that doesn’t allow working people to be exploited with zero hour contracts, zero job security, no sick pay and having to claim universal credit whilst working would be a good start. Suppose you can’t blame Wetherspoons for taking advantage but they’re just as bad for allowing it

This is a problem in lots of areas. Best fix for me would be to abolish the lower limit on employers NI so that employers lose the benefit of employing multiple people to do one job.

What about my last question?

But that tax is the same for all pubs, yet prices differ when the same supplier is used, and I'm not talking about the big players here.

My local is selling beer for a profit at around £3 a pint. It's slightly more expensive than JDs but way cheaper than the local Greene King pub. It's an independent, no pulling power, so why?

Does it not depend if they are aligned to a brewery?

I was in the Royal Oak in Stockton a couple of weeks ago before going to the Globe Theatre. They where knocking lager out at £2 a pint. Any pub charging £5 a pint deserves to lose customers.

What about my last question?
Why people work work there?

Would imagine because it’s one of the few places that require zero experience in hospitality and a fairly easy place to get into because of the high staff turnover. People probably don’t realise at the time they hire numerous people for one role

Certainly not because of the brilliant wages or working conditions

How do the wages compare to your local? Or, say, the nearest 10 pubs to you? More? Less?

What about the requirements to work a certain amount of weekend nights? More? Less?

Are you saying the people who work in wetherspoons are too stupid to take a better job in a pub elsewhere?

I’ll repeat it Randy -

People continue to work at Wetherspoons, when there are thousands of vacancies available in the same industry, why is that?
I would be surprised if many posters on this thread actually know someone who has worked there.

Everyone I know who has worked in one hasn’t had a bad thing to say about the job. Many have been there for years, working their way up.
