Warnock facing a fight to save his job if we lose at West Brom [Mail/heman/advent/various]

Folks talk about investment in the summer.. this didn’t include a defender or a left back. The reason we are 6 points off 4th place is our defence. IT’S OUR DEFENCE

Trolls and rumours will be the reason Warnock calls it a day nothing else imo.

A huge amount of online fans seem totally enamoured with ‘the vision of Kieran Scott’ to the point they are willing to completely dismiss our results being nigh on identical to those with Aitor Karanka. I can’t stand the Daily Mail or the online fans who’ve been out to get Warnock fired before the season started (the same sort that wanted rid of Southgate in the Euros after the group stage)

If Warnock calls it a day we will not benefit.. a new manager will have the same squad with the same problems then improve as a result of players coming back from injury and a transfer window (same as Warnock)

The only difference will be with a new manager will be that we will look to write this season off and expect to smash the season next season.
Great Post Newy, you've absolutely nailed it...
I couldn't have put it better myself....👍👍👍

I'd be surprised if he was sacked if we lost today, but I suppose there's no better time to do it than during an international break.
We've let in some dreadful goals this season against poor teams, and have looked so fragile, you can't lay all the blame at the players feet for that.
Warnock is underperfoming just as much as the players.

Hopefully we pull off a shock win so it's a moot point.

It's a pretty BIG one when you've got half your side OUT don't you think 🤔

It's a factor. I'm not sure it's as big a one as some think so, he still has options particularly in the attacking positions. Granted defensively it's slim pickings but he still switches between a 3 and a 4 so again it's not like the team is "picking itself".

I just don't buy the argument that there's only really one side he can feasibly put out and therefore there's nothing more he can do. Team instructions/tactics are more important than formation anyway. For example, if we kept the ball better maybe the defence would be under less pressure and we wouldn't out of steam in the second half? That's nothing to do with lineup or formation, that's team instructions.

Maybe he is doing the best possible job. And the defensive injuries are obviously a mitigating factor. But I personally don't believe he's getting the best out of these players or playing to their strengths, regardless of injuries.

If it's going to happen this season now would make sense, especially if we have someone in mind who could come in during the international break. Season very much alive imho, not sure who it would be mind and given some of the last few appointments not sure if we should be careful what we wish for!

Someone said it wouldn't be rational for us to sack him today or tomorrow, but it would be entirely rational if the people taking that decision have a proper plan in place and a target lined up to replace him. Like when Southampton sacked Nigel Adkins and everyone went mad over it(including me on here, as it happens) but then Pochettino turned out to be a brilliant appointment. It's only not rational if you do what we did in the Premier League and sack your manager without being sure of what's going to happen next.

If he does get sacked today then it isn't because we lost at West Brom(if we do lose, this Boro team winning there today wouldn't surprise me at all), it's because we are a team in the bottom half of the second tier treading water. We've been in poor shape all year. I also think what happened in January counts against him but that's just a personal hunch. I think things are happening on the field that aren't being corrected on the training field. He keeps saying you can't legislate for things but I think you can legislate for some of them. We make a LOT of individual errors and have no real cohesion to our play. I always say a team plays in the image of it's manager and this Boro team look like exactly that; a bit confused, unsure, unsettled, caught between ideas and not really working towards anything in particular. Is the manager and his staff getting the best out of this group of players? That's the bottom line and I don't think that's happening TBH.

We've been a pretty awful side at times, we can play but not for a whole game it seems. I'd be very surprised if he was sacked, but not shocked.

would like to think the arrticle is true
I think so. No smoke without a fire.

Something is going on. Didn't someone post on here the other week that we'd already interviewed 11 managers with the prospect of taking the reigns next season? Wonder how much of a say Scott has had in this? Hopefully a lot.

According to reports, "insiders" at Boro have said that his Boro tenure is hanging by a thread and that defeat at West Brom will be the end of his job tonight.
Its not looking good for Warnock.

Good it’s about time we set a standard at the club as this settling for half arsed mediocrity every other week is a joke.

The club is in a mess it seems, no coherent transfer strategy, no recognisable pattern of play and a massive dissonance between where we are in the league and our stated aims pre-season.

Injuries are a factor, as they are at all clubs, but if we’re being totally honest having seen us over the last 12 months how often have we looked a good side capable of competing in the top 6 of this division ?

Warnock deflects and excuses himself from blame when he has to take responsibility for his part in our current malaise, my main criticism is that too often we don’t do the basics right and for a manager of Warnock’s experience those things should not be allowed to happen as often as they are, Warnock in the past has succeeded on the basis of getting the fundamentals correct, having a defined pattern of play and finding players to fit that system, it seems that there’s no consistency in team selection and players are being played out of position or not knowing where they should be playing. Warnock’s strengths were motivation, creating teams that were hard to beat through instilling a certain mentality and that had a bit of devilment about them, sadly in his time with us he’s not done that, are his hands tied ? Has he lost his mojo ? Or are other factors playing a part ?

He shouldn’t go based on today’s result but if we continue to perform with as little lustre, verve and solidity then the writing is on the wall for Warnock, defending him is fine but there comes a point where if things remain as they are then he runs out of excuses.

It is certainly unlucky to lose so many first choice defenders at the same time.
It is also inevitable that 12 signings will take time to gel.
It is however fair to say that the midfield and forwards are not great and are not playing well - we still can't score goals.
There is no consistent shape and the players are not good enough to vary as often as they are asked.

This season was supposed to be a play off challenge. Two matches ago we had a little momentum, but it has been alarming to see that collapse so easily.

Viv is spot on in saying that sacking Warnock now would make perfect sense if his replacement is lined up to start immediately and is of higher capability.
If that man is not available yet, then we stutter on rather then leave it to a temporary fix; accepting another season of championship chundering.

I am a Boro fan and support whoever is on the pitch or on the touchline .
Some people comment on sackings like it's Football Manager on a computer game .
It's peoples pride and dignity and their lives and livelihoods.
When glibly talking of sacking this one or that one , spare a thought for the people affected , wives , kids , coaching staff and their families .
I support my club . UTB .

Nice sentiment - and I like Warnock and care about him - but Neil is rising 73, has had a great career, has a wonderful family and wealth beyond his wildest dreams.
Forgive me if I am rather more concerned about our football club than him.

He's managed 17 clubs and has been sacked or has resigned from most of them.

I'm sure he, his wife and family will be just fine.

And therefore prolonging the inevitable, if it meant Warnock going then I will happily take a big defeat today.
With that attitude it’s a shame you call yourself a Boro supporter. Irrespective of whether you support the manager or otherwise, wishing a defeat, a big one at that! Is not what I would expect from true supporters. Are you at the game today? I am and the last thing I would wish for is a bad defeat just for the sake of getting the manager sacked. Won’t do the players any good getting thumped and the journey home won’t be brilliant, both of which I’m used to by the way.
