We want promotion, obviously, but being in the champo isn't all bad..

There's loads to like about it, certainly.

Saturday kickoffs will become less frequent if we're promoted for one thing. I am aware that we've had precious few of those lately anyway, but it would be worse in the PL.

But we're sports fans: we're competitive, so we want to be as high as we can be.

I've had this discussion with my brother's. I think the champo is an excellent league. Better than the prem in some aspects.
Prem can feel a little sterile at times for me. Championships is a good, honest, quality filled and exciting league to be in.
I'd love to see world class superstars playing every other week, but as far as supporting my team and enjoying the way we play and the goals we score, give me this league any day.

There would be disappointment if we didn’t get promoted but by fluck I’d look forward to next season if we can keep Carrick…
I’m not sure we’d keep the players though 😞

So I guess we need the promotion…

In any sport you need to push towards the highest goal possible, we are no different,PL is our pinnacle, that's what we need to aim for.
Don't disagree that the Championship is a fantastic League but any professional footballer would always strive for the PL.
I hope ours are no different.
C'mon Boro

If we go up yes we could end up as cannon fodder, but we could also end up like Brighton / Brentford etc

I’d like to think we would actually have a go this time round instead of only having an ageing Spanish striker in the opposition half at any time.

We`ve had relative "success" in the Premiership: if we go up with Maestro Michael at the helm, it will be certain - with his Premiership, International and European experience - he will build the best Premiership side Boro have ever seen. He has the contacts and connections, but more importantly, he has the knowledge and the skills to share and nurture a team of winners. Not just "well-drilled" or "organised" [boring / predictable]. I hope he exceeds our wildest dreams and he probably will. He will eventually move on, so lets get on the ride and enjoy every scintillating moment whilst we can (y)

Go up, recruit wisely not spaffing the PL riches.

Compete, but if it's not good enough go back to the Championship with the core of the squad intact and go again. It will be disappointing but not the end of the world.

What we can't do is completely blow up this squad, do a complete PL squad rebuild, get relegated then have to do a complete Championship rebuild. Need a 2-3 year plan. Hopefully learn from 2016-17 and ensure that is the blueprint of how not to do it.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

If I was offered promotion but instant relegation I’d rather just lose in the play-offs. The 2016/2017 season was my worst following the club, since I started following in the late 80s. We’d waited 7 years to go back up and when we got there we were so far out of our depth it wasn’t funny, and it was mostly down to attitude rather than quality.

This time we’ve waited 6 years and it would feel nearly as bad if we just humiliated ourselves again, and this time with VAR thrown into the mix too. I wouldn’t expect us to be coming top half or anything but if we went up with the attitude of just making up the numbers again I’d rather not bother. Hopefully Carrick wouldn’t be as egotistical as Karanka was, making out like us finishing 17th would be like Bill Shankly levels of achievement for him.

The idea that the championship is class or somewhere we want to be.. eff off

This season is good.. but it’s not always like this and for it to be is unsustainable.

I would rather get beat by Arsenal at the top of the premier league than scuttling around for results against the likes of Stoke and West Brom.

The whole point of competition is to strive to be the best, to go up against the best.. not to pick up participation trophies for being outside the top twenty.

Do it because it’s easy is a dreadful attitude to have. Fake success? or just celebrating mediocrity. Would you rather go on holiday to Redcar over the Maldives or Barbados?

Naturally, we all want promotion .. but .. I'd miss the Champo if we did. There's actually more than a handful of teams that can get success and that breeds excitement. And let's be honest - statistically, first season back is a struggle for most promoted teams - even when they spend a bundle. (Probably) Quite a few defeats. (Probably) A few stuffings along the way. And not much of a chance at success unless survival is considered that. Might do a Fulham and buck the trend. One team tends to every now and then but might not be as overall "enjoyable" as a season in the Champo.

I suppose I’d have to consider whether the Maldives or Barbados have VAR?

Season’s that we’re worse than the 2016/2017 season..

2012/13
2013/14
2017/18
2018/19

I absolutely love the championship but I wanna go up for a load of reasons.

I want that security, the big bucks that come your way, I want to know that we have that money in the bank just in case!
I want those players you get linked with, the excitement of big names, wonderkids, the players you watched shine in this league this year, to see those players linker and ultimately walk through the door is exciting, like when Valdes and Negredo came! That was a pipe dream when big Ishmael Miller was stinking up the Riverside.
I want the big names playing against us! It's great, the full stadium, the buzz. Everything is amazing.

If we do go up I don't mind going down but this time i just want our lads to fight tooth and nail to stay there, if it doesn't happen, back to the most exciting league in the world! This time with your Prem squad, if all these other clubs can keep hold of their players so can we!

I agree, the 2016-17 season was my worst experience too.

But if we go up, no illusions it will be a tough, tough season. We don't know where we will finish as there are too many variables in play. But if we give it a go, compete and fall short so be it.

The 2016-17 season was just a complete and utter sh*tshow, but like I said lessons learned, how not to do it.

We will see.🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m not here for defeatist threads like this. I enjoy the championship and if we are there so be it next season then so be it but all I care about now is Boro being successful and getting promoted ASAP. That’s what we want and need.
