Well this is quite the tale....

This thread is a good example of why this board works so well. A point of view which can be discussed, debated and argued over with, ultimately, respect from all sides. And humour, too.
I've not visited COB until now and I won't be going there again. What a waste of time.
Exactly.

For me in particular who lives on the other side of the world and so far removed from local issues and local peoples thoughts on such issues.

This site with all it's varied threads is of great importance to me.
It's my link to all my Boro loving brothers and sisters and it's their thoughts and opinions that make me feel that I'm not that far removed after all and still part of the community.

I never post on the political threads as after leaving England at the age of fifteen and having never worked or paid taxes in England, feel that I'm not
qualified to do so as I don't suffer the consequences of the fallout, but I do enjoy reading others thoughts which rarely get out of hand on here.

Without knowing all my fellow Boro supporters thoughts on many issues, I too, would certainly be another grumpyoldgit.

I think you're using the board wrong. If the thread is titled "Brexit" or "Boris Johnson" then there isn't going to be any football chat.

Try clicking on one of the many threads that sounds like it's about football instead (Eg "Bettinelli"), thus saving yourself a job of "wading through" the political stuff to find the football posts.

You're welcome.
Thanks for the suggestions. That's brilliant. In future I'll have to filter out the predictable bias. In the last year the football stuff was often a challenge to locate though. Possibly on page 2.

You can't be looking that hard. Have just checked and there are 29 (twenty nine) football threads on the front page this morning.
Excellent! It's a Red letter day. Hope it stays that way - of course that will largely depend on HM Government not doing anything the majority disagree with..

I think you'll find that its actually you who has a problem with that. You just can't let it go can you?

Anyway, I'll look forward to this being "the new normal!"

Ah so the issue isn't that there are too many politics threads (frankly ludicrous claim you can't find football threads because of a handful of threads on other topics) it's that the threads aren't the right kind of politics threads. You want more threads fawning over Boris and co?

My suspicion when people claim there are too many politics threads is that what they really mean is "I support this government, but people shining a light on the many things they do that prove they are corrupt and not fit for office is making me uncomfortable. I'd like to continue to live in ignorance than have to face up to the fact there's a chance the people I've voted for are actually complete b***ds and I've been conned. Please stop."

This. Exactly this. The board is and has always has had a smattering of non-football threads. The majority remain football related and if you claim otherwise you’re being disingenuous. It is more likely that you don’t like the mirror that is being held up.

All I will say on this is that there are some posters who will look to turn any thread political. For example a post the other day about vandalism turned into a Tory bashing session for one poster with no real discussion about the topic in hand.

the numerous tenuous links that can be made to Dominic Cummings on a thread of almost any title is annoying.

It is easier said than done to avoid the political threads and a tad frustrating when politics pervades some people’s thoughts on every subject.

I don't think football threads ever turn political. Surely with other threads they only turn political if people feel there is a political angle? Such as if the root cause of something happening has been from a political action?

With Cummings in particular: you seem to suggest it's a big problem. Show me one thread where he has been mentioned for no reason.

Nail on the head.... I have took to avoiding political threads due to the amount of targeting of people just because they have a different political view... only to find it also happening on threads with no political topic.

Its bullying and it needs to stop.

I still haven't seen any evidence of it.

This thread stayed on topic until post #65.
Then went downhill from post #76 onwards.
Go figure.
