Westminster voting intention

I read today about the roasting Johnson got at Glasgow by the press, right wing media included. They were asking him to apologise for attempting to scrap independent oversight of parliament. It was funny and uncomfortable to watch the video.

The Daily Mail is relentless in it's criticism of Johnson.

There will be a lot of Tory MP's looking at their seat margins nervously if something is not done to stop the tide of sleaze and corruption stories. It is cutting through to public opinion.

Booting out Johnson will be looking good right now.
They will be however they still toed the party line when voting bunch of F***ing hipocrites

For most Conservatives, Boris isn't their type of Tory.

They don't like him.

But he was a Brexiter and a populist and their route to them getting Brexit (no 1) and staying in power (no 2). Nothing else mattered.

They knew he was a liar, corrupt, lazy and incompetent. They don't mind the corruption and the lies as long as it is not targeted at them, they are par for the course. The sin is getting caught out. They don't like lazy and incompetent though. Still, it was all a package and a price worth paying for them because all they ever look at is themselves and the short term. The long term damage to the country doesn't matter. They don't realise it matters because they are insulated by their wealth and their distance from those who are impacted. They don't have to confront it day to day so they don't realise it is a problem. Those who complain are just whingers doing it for political reasons because they want more handouts instead of getting off their backsides and doing something about it themselves. That is what they think they did. It was all them. No privilege involved, no head start in life, no benefits from who you or your parents know, or old school chums and no benefit at all from a country with an educated, healthy, workforce and a great infrastructure to exploit. No, they did it all themselves with no help anywhere.

Only now, when the damage to reputation and relations starts to actually impact on them, that they are scorned by their international friends, that the Royal family is miffed at being lied to and that they have got so arrogant and greedy they let the general public see behind the curtain and is now outraged, only now are they prepared to take steps to rid themselves of Johnson who isn't quite 'one of ours' really. Because the actual impact to them could be losing power. Tut tut.

I think that's largely true but the thing that troubles them most is that Johnson isn't bothered about the party, unlike other party leaders.

He doesn't care about who is in charge before or after him. This is a Johnson premiership. If that means hanging on until he kills his own party for a generation *shrugs*.

He will continue to lie about everything that has or is happening and earn a fortune for doing so. Even before becoming PM he could get 5 or 6 figure amounts for talking nonsense for an hour or two.

If this continues I think his leadership is likely to come under threat - Tories will know that a change of leader has got them back in before, and won't hesitate to do the same
Labour are 'back in the game', but this is midterm against a party that's been in power 11 1/2 years - so it remains to be seen if this lead lasts longer than the current headlines

This just shows you why there should have been a 2nd vote. The change is not so much due to people changing their mind but older generally Leave people passing away and the new generally pro-EU voters coming through.

The change of Leader worked with Thatcher, but only really because John Major was a pretty genuine well meaning Tory.

It worked with Johnson for very different reasons. He was a formidable campaigner compared to May (who fought comfortably the most inept campaign I've ever seen), he fought on one issue which was to end something that people were sick of after four years of hearing nothing else and he was up against an even worse and inept alternative for most people, in Corbyn (and the Labour Left).

I'm guessing they see him as a major risk to a conservative victory, they want him under a bus before he scuppers their plans
I think it's dependent on the mood of MPs. I think a lot still see him as electorally positive, even if they know he's a lying shambles.

He was. As you can tell from the deafening silence of the Borisettes on here, even his hard-core support knows they are struggling to defend him at the moment. It won't take much of a swing of public opinion to make the marginal MPs worry about their seat
