What next for Leo?

So, as a manager he should have been able to kick him into touch.
You do realise that managers rarely overhaul an entire coaching set up, right? They normally bring in three or four men with them and keep the rest the same. Worth considering that we are talking about human beings here with livelihoods and real life situations taking place, including Leo who has already had an absolute ton to deal with recent years.

If he was manager and took us to relegation but was kept on through sympathy I'd understand the cynicism but otherwise I don't get it? He's not the kind of man to undermine a gaffer and he's found a special place in his heart for our relatively small and to him, random, football club.

I think that's wonderful and if people aspire to have the same level of passion, desire and commitment to the boro cause as he does accompanied with whatever other skillset they're recruited for then we won't go far wrong.

Chose to stick around - continued to be well payed for not doing a great deal.

We should be so grateful…..
This man needed support and empathy from others at a time in his life I hope you and I never have to experience. The club chose to give him that support whilst also filling a goalkeeping coach. Leo's always had a link to the fans due to his role under Karanka and thousands of goodwill messages from Boro fans were sent to him at the lowest point of his life.

If it means we pay him well for cleaning the toilets, long may it continue. I feel better knowing my club stepped up to help someone who played a part in our club's history.

Excellent post Norman_Conquest 👍

at the end of the match when the staff went to the fans Blackwell and Jepson both gave leo a massive hug ... at the time I thought it looked like goodbye hugs .... guess they were

I would add that if stories coming out over the years from former players/staff showing the club in quite a penny pinching, ruthless light, coupled with the ongoing financial hardships of recent years, I highly doubt we’d employ anyone for purely sentimental reasons and keep him employed if he “just puts out cones”.

Leo is employed by the club but his role is determined by the manager.

Warnock had him putting out the cones.

Do you know that for sure? I’m not being argumentative, I just think that even if that is the case, he’d have plenty of other responsibilities too. I think the club did a good thing with Leo, but if money is so tight I can’t see businessmen being sentimental for long in the current financial climate.

Leo is on peanuts.

I go to games so I see his role before and during the game.

There's always plenty of video and photographs of training sessions on the MFC website.

Leo is always isolated, never part of the management/coaching big boys.

Of course he does more than put the cones out but he could do so much more.

Aye that’s fair enough, I think it’s true that no one on the outside knows his true responsibilities but they certainly appeared to reduce under Warnock.

He's currently interpreting for Payero and our window into the South American leagues. As well as assistance with the first team. Thankfully his silly antics on the touchline have stopped. I wish him well....👍

Maybe wash the first team squad and coaching staff’s cars?
Nah, he’ll have a decent role. I wasn’t criticising Leo there btw, was just messing about as that’s my plan for this affy.

I hope there’s always a role at our club for Leo in whatever capacity.

Lovely post that I (and I’m sure many other Boro fans) 100% agree with.

It feels a little exciting to be a Boro fan again 🙂

Great post (y)

Love Leo, and he loves us. I hope he's here for as long as he wants. A brilliant, passionate character who is a credit to the club.

Obviously Warnock had his men in Blackwell and Jepson, and Leo didn't appear to have much of a look in. Hopefully he's a bit more involved (not knowing facts of how involved he is behind the scenes, of course) with Wilder.
