Worst Ever Boro 11 - We have our team!

Obviously long, long before my time and I didn't see the quality of football itself, and he clearly did a bad job, but can you say Raich Carter really did a worse job than Strachan?

Using 3 points for a win, and remembering there were 4 games fewer, he took over a 2nd division team that finished 12th the previous season:

1962/63 - 4th, 20W, 9D, 13L, 69 points, 1.64ppg.

1963/64 - 10th, 15W, 11D, 16L, 56 points, 1.33ppg.

1964/65 - 17th, 13W, 9D, 20L, 48 points, 1.14ppg.

1965/66 - 20th, 5W, 11D, 10L, 27 points, 1.04ppg.

Sacked in February in the final season.
Final ppg record of 1.32.

Strachan took over a newly relegated team with a big financial advantage and brought in a load of *****:

2009/10: Took over with Middlesbrough in 4th, they finished 10th, he managed 9W, 11D, 12L, 38 points, 1.19ppg.

2010/11: Sacked with Middlesbrough in 20th, 3W, 2D, 6L, 14 points, 1.00ppg.

Final ppg record of 1.14.

Strachan was sacked before he could do even more damage.

Gordon Strachan vs Tony Pulis

Free entry and we have to pay them to stop playing!!

Woodgate was terrible but he matched my expectations. It was obvious he would be adisaster so when he was it wasn't a surprise. The reason Strachan, Pulis, Southgate etc are being mentioned above him is because we had much higher expectations of them.

If you gave all of them the same job in the same circumstances then I think Woodgate would have been the worst performing of them all.

The change in points given for a win was supposed to change the way teams played so it's not a valid comparison. And if it were only decided on points per game, then you'd also need to look at Murdoch. Allison and Maddren who have barely had a mention (and don't bother doing the arithmetic as I haven't). It's Raich Carter. He effectively took a decent Boro side and made it into a third division team.

Southgate took Boro from UEFA Cup finalists to EFL Championship also-rans.

He is undoubtedly Boro's worst-ever manager and biggest clown.
nowhere near.. such disrespect!

2006/07 we finished 12th
2007/08 we finished 13th
2008/09 after a dreadful summer transfer window and a non existent january we were relegated.. our hands tied by the banks. death by a thousand cuts
we beat spurs, man city, villa, liverpool but injuries, a paper thin squad and no chance of bringing players in meant that we were relegated by 3 points

no where near our worst ever manager. one of our best infact and he's proven his talent by being one of the most successful england managers in history.

Bench :

Joe Lumley
Branco
Mick Saxby
Kevin Thomson
Mido
Kris Boyd

The bench to me looks like it’s missing a midfielder.. I would say Gary O’Neil completes a final 18 of the hapless and heartless
And that is the definitive Worst Ever Boro XI as voted for by the members of FMTTM ?

In Raich Carters defence he did what he promised, he said that he would get us out of the second division, unfortunately we went in the wrong direction
