Not feeling the Coronation at all…

I'm watching....but I find all this build up annoying. Looking forward to the actual ceremony.....massive piece of British history. The Camilla thing is grinding for me too, caught a bit on Sky news yesterday talking about how getting her to this point has been stage managed to the absolute micro second since her and Charles got together.

Do you really think human beings have a sense of fairness once they have power and wealth and can be trusted to help others wisely?

What was it Lord Acton said, Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely? There is no country in the world that sees wealth distributed fairly or evenly, its all pie in the sky
Some yes, not everyone is corrupt and not everyone is absolutely corrupt.

No one is asking or expecting perfect, but we do want better distribution less hoovering up of the wealth and power into the hands of a small number of people

Let the bike ride be your memory of it.

My memory of the King's 1st wedding was driving down the A1 with just a few vehicles to be seen. My car broke down near Peterborough.
The AA man arrived in about 3 minutes. Shortly after, an RAC guy dropped by. Having nothing to do, he helped out.

No one said that the reason they visit is for Royalty, I was just showing the fact Jedi keeps rolling out is wrong.

Britain is nothing like North Korea - you are an intelligent man and know that.
Nope, totally normal to tell a group of people they can have a peaceful protest then arrest them as soon as they turn up. Not at all like North Korea is it! Are you going to excuse this or downplay it?

He’s an intelligent, articulate and peaceful man, trying to use his democratic right to object to this in a peaceful and agreed manner, yet here we are.

And guess what, he will successfully sue the police and our taxes will pay to ensure that the monarch doesn’t have to dip into his pocket to keep his gold hat party full of happy clappers instead of a proper mix of societal views.

Well it depends if we get the right governance structures in place. What is certain is that corrupt monarchs will never be removed.
Do you believe every monarch to be corrupt? I accept we have clearly found some are and sadly have been protected, but all is a big leap, not sure that can be evidenced, if you can though with proof, I will come to a police station with you with it and insist they press charges.

Every system has corruption, a republic would too. As for the structures and governance, what makes you think that such governance wont be quietly changed once power is grasped? It happens all around the world, sadly, whatever the system in place, humans just lust on power and wealth and self importance unfortunately, we all probably have it deep within us to do it i fear.

Charles was found under FOI to have used his position to influence and get what he wanted. Did he apologise, no he got the laws changed so that foi doesn’t apply to the monarchy. That’s the sign of corruption.

I see there is another court case against his filthy brother, that’s being kept out of the headlines isn’t it

I’m amazed biden isn’t here though.

THe first coronation in 70 years and no us president ( I know his wife is) but it’s surprising he’s not there.

I stand corrected

‘Biden's decision not to attend should not come as a surprise. "This is not unexpected as no American president has ever attended the coronation of a British monarch, so it is not a snub”’

France gets more than double the number of international tourists than the uk gets. The monarchy could go tomorrow and we’d still get the same number of visitors. Difference would be that we don’t have to pay royal salaries and the buildings would be publicly owned (as in France) so more money for the citizens. History doesn’t get erased, people still come and look at the palaces but this time they can go into all of the rooms. Win win (except if you’re a royal)

Ours certainly is.

We all use our positions to influence what we want in our own personal lives based on our own personal situations in society. Some have greater influence than others in all walks of life. Do you believe a President wouldn’t use influence to get what they wanted?

I have no idea what case you are talking about, but presume you are talking about Andrew? He is the one i referred to earlier and agree with your thoughts on him. President Biden has a son that is potentially facing federal charges i think, he seems to be defending his son, you can’t be held responsible for your relatives and their behaviours, but systems can and do try to protect them nevertheless, people in certain positions can and will be seen using their power, wealth and influence and not all for the good, whatever the system.

I'm not fussed either way. I don't plan to turn the TV on today so I can avoid the blanket coverage.

My granddaughter is here for the weekend so we might have a walk out and see if there's any street parties or gatherings we can gatecrash. That will be my only involvement in the whole ceremony.
