Not feeling the Coronation at all…

The reality is that we have no idea what this family do or don’t do. No one does as it’s the most secretive institution on earth.
We certainly have little idea of the extent of what they are doing. But we do know that knowledge is power and they have weekly briefings from the PM and first and last view of all bills the go into the commons and lords and unrestricted access and influence to ministers and senior civil servants.

We know they wield these powers as over a thousand laws were influenced by the previous monarch.

We know they are exempt from hundreds of laws, many used to hide any accountability or transparancy of actions.

We know they have immense wealth and no way for it to significantly diminish.

Immense wealth and information and access to powerful people and restrictions on opposition and zero accountability are clear levers of corruption. Yet we are told that having a presidential system would be corrupt so we should be scared of that

I gave it a go on the BBC, lasted 2 minutes before I felt physically sick. Am now watching a live feed of a soggy osprey sat on her eggs in poole harbour..... much more my kind of thing.

Too each their own.
If people get enjoyment out of it then great let them enjoy it.
If you think it's a waste of time then do something else.
Absolutely this, the amount of energy and time people have wasted on the thread instead of just getting up and pressing the off switch on the remote.

Here’s ex prime minister truss.

I’m amazed she had the nerve to show up.

They should have invited the lettuce as well 🥬

I will waste more time on Monday watching a considerably less consequential event, and with a considerably more irrational )to the uncommitted) measure of devotion than those on the Mall, as I do most weekends, so each to their own for me.

As to the OP’s Camilla thing, that’s the system. The King’s lass is the Queen. It’s not about “deserved” any more than his job is. None of it would be my choice but it is what it is. And I’m certain that if those who do support it on the whole start pulling out the irrational or anachronistic bits it all falls down because it’s all irrational or anachronistic bits.

Good luck to those who enjoy all the pomp and ceremony, I have no problem with them, me, I personally find it all hilarious and what a complete waste, anyway I have a wall to paint and then watch it dry!!!

You’re wrong btw as Charles agreed to this with the late queen and it was only after her death he changed the plan.

She can call herself Empress of the Universe for all I care. Is it really much more ridiculous than calling someone King or Queen based on nothing more than who their mum was?

Don't know why people care if they've been married before, its 2023, so have half the country. Is it something to be embarrassed about or mean you're somehow devalued as a person? It's as if normal logic flies out of the window when it comes to the royal family.

And of course no-one has to bow down to anyone in this country. If people want to debase themselves in that way, that's up to them of course. It's a free country.
She will always be Queen Tampax to me

Whether anyone approves on here or not wont change the fact that today is history in the making, this tradition is many centuries old and I doubt it will be the last. It undoubtedly will evolve though and eventually I suspect people will have their way and a republic of GB be formed with a popular elected President.

I wonder who the first President will be, whether they are born yet, I’d put money on them being very wealthy and powerful, educated privately. I am sure they will be in it to put the people first though in this budding utopia people seem to think would be better, maybe they could go on to be as popular a president as Xi, Putin, Bashar al-Assad, Maduro are judging by the free and fair elections in their republics or say a Trump or Johnson populist type might lead us instead, whoopee.

After the monarchy is gone, what institutions are next, should the Church of England be brought down, buildings torn down or left to fall into ruin like some of the old Abbeys. What would people focus on to complain about, what would people turn their attentions to next I wonder? Lives will still be governed by a supreme leader of sorts, allegedly elected fairly, and respected by all no doubt, similar to how everyone has respected Brexit i suppose. Yep, I’m convinced change will always be for the better now, I’m in.
No system will ever be perfect but you have to modernise and in my view the prevailing class system in the U.K is rooted in the monarchy and the mediaeval feudal system. This holds the country back by limiting the ambitions and mindset of a significant number of the population.

The Queen had left instruction that Camilla was to be Queen Consort. Charles has overruled that and said she’ll be Queen.

That feels disrespectful to me.

I think you both sound nuts tbh :ROFLMAO: the idea that any family is anointed by British god to rule over the rest of us, get final say on laws, get 10s of millions of tax dosh every year is all fine but a queen whos had another marriage is a problem?
I have a problem with as well
