Do you think Vaccine passports should be needed to get into pubs?

OK, but the thread title is "Do you think vaccine passports should be required to get in to pubs". I answered that it should be at the landlords discretion. I really don't see why that's off topic. (I don't think it should be a legal requirement though).

If my specific response to you was off-topic, then apologies.

I don't think vaccine passports should routinely be a mandatory thing though. However, other organisations (some cruise ships) have said that customers will need proof of vaccination. Maybe from your GP perhaps(?), but some sort of optional vaccine 'passport' might become a thing. It's more certification really.

As for people on this thread who say people will just buy fake certificates. Is that not just as selfish as some of the breaking lockdown rules, which has been so heavily condemned on here?
I am wondering if a COVID passport would be more of an electronic thing on an app, rather than a paper certificate?

Fair enough Cuthbert, I do get a bit riled way too easily at how some people are happy to see our way of life being systematically destroyed.

If there were two pubs and one enforced the rule and another didn’t , I would vote with my feet and go to the one with the fittest barmaids.
Slim pickings where I live FC, we have limpy Ian and laugh at anything Mark

Shouldn't be necessary. In NYC, they take your temperature as you go in, one of the party has to leave address and phone number and you must wear a mask until seated, no exceptions and no more than 6 to a table. The licensing authorities do come round and they will revoke the license straightaway for breaches. Slightly different on Long Island, in that temperature and phone number are not needed, although they are for hairdressers, nail salons etc.

There really is an authoritarian streak running through some of you lot.
Aslong as it's in the name of health and safety right?
Boomers really are a toxic influence on the world.
Plus this has been done to death already on another thread, smh.

Remarkable isn't it? Someone earlier was suggesting there should be mandatory vaccination!

In my view, the point of the vaccines is......

1) to protect the person taking the vaccine (by reducing symptoms and the level of disease they suffer), decreasing deaths, decreasing hospital admissions, and decreasing transmission within the community during those periods of the year it will transmit easily.
2) provide greater protection to the population as a whole. With more people vaccinated in addition to those gathering immunity through natural infection the susceptible population decreases such that the herd immunity threshold is reached. If "herd immunity" hadn't become the political football (rather than a scientific concept) it did last spring we'd be in a much better position.

SARS-CoV-2 is likely to be with us for a very very long time. It will become less of a threat over time but it isn't going anywhere. But with most of the population protected to some extent we should be moving back to normal not introducing more and more bizarre restrictions as we actually move into a better position with population immunity/community immunity/herd immunity (whatever you want to call it).

For all of those whose who are calling for vaccine passports....... I'm assuming you'll be in favour of restrictions being permanent and used to protect against Flu, RSV etc?

Not compulsory to have a vaccine and not compulsory to go to the pub. Reckon either have a vaccine passport or a dated Covid free test certificate, airlines are doing these it seems.

Good debate here but has anyone thought that as soon as a "passport" is introduced there will be a very busy market for them on the internet- a forgers paradise. Or download them from some dodgy sight for a few quid?

In my heart, I like the idea of the passport, but I can't see how it can be implemented without, as other posters have pointed out, fraud on a massive scale. Businesses have a right to set conditions for use of their services, they are private entities. Some will want to use the passport, some won't.

Does been vaccinated give a sense of superiority over those who haven't been vaccinated yet because of age or health related reasons (pregnant women etc).

This is a stupid comment, the vaccination gives people a sense of protection and safety, not superiority.

It will, it will be the NHS app which already exists. Not the covid track and trace app, the standard NHS app

Well thats me out then. About 18 months ago I spent a week trying to sign up for the NHS app. Sent copies of passport, photos, nhs numbers and god knows what else still told me they were not good enough so gave up. Unless they have simplified the sign up.

Are they really going to be free tests. A friend of mine is going to Canaries in Sept and going by current rules(she priced it up) it was going to be an extra £400 for her holiday with the test she needs before she goes before she comes back and the two tests after she comes back.

I can’t see it being used as a form of ID — punters want customers — then there will be the odd excuse like “I’ve forgotten mine” or “we’re together” or “come on let us in just this once” — it’ll never hold up.

Took about 5 minutes, and I didn't need any paperwork

Not sure what you were signing up to, but the app doesn't need copies of passport etc

How would the advocates of this feel if a law was passed saying you couldn't hug your grandchildren, children, nephews and nieces until you had all been vaccinated? It is after all for the greater good.

It's a load of nonsense. Those of you who think unvaccinated people should have less freedoms than vaccinated are in an 8% minority.

Please take a moment to consider what you are saying in a wider context.

Dna databases, monitoring your movements and Id cards, banning public protests can all be framed for the greater good. They are not.

You are sleepwalking into a country controlled by Johnson, where the government have absolute control of your decisions.

It's for the greater good though, right.
