Anyone else sick of living in England?

On the whole the UK is a bad place. Millions of people are unskilled and haven't had a much of an education. You only have to walk around most British towns and cities to understand this. A good % of the population have limited hope of ever getting a fulfilling job or a decent home in their lifetime. Yes, there are some people who are doing okay, but they are certainly the minority. Some obviously welcome this as people generally hold an element of one upmanship. But unfortunately society ends up paying the price.

I think the US narrative is probably a bit misguided as that is simply a more extreme version of what largely happens in the UK.

I thought that I would make a relatively small but life changing move that would enhance my life in my later years. I am used to moving around the country due to my fathers job. I moved from Wiltshire to North Devon, beautiful countryside and beaches but I just cant settle. It feels like I have entered an elephants grave yard. I cant wait to move back to civilisation when my business has sold.

The wife and I have actively been looking for a place in France to retire to, but not sure how that would play out now we've left the EU. We have marked towns and villages that we like and these are mainly away from the tourist spots. When we are away on holiday, we tend to avoid the areas the English frequent.

We also have friends who would gladly swap our life styles for their's and cannot understand why we would want to move to France.

I think maybe some of us should ask ourselves, what do we offer any other country to make them want us ?

I hear Singapore is meant to be great place to live .

You voted for a govt that consisted of gove Johnson Patel backed up by the likes of IDS and rees-mogg seriously what did you think would happen.

And now after voting for this cabal you want out... this is what tories do this is what they’ve always done.

you voted for a no deal self interest regime.

so you were happy with robbing the disabled if their benefits forcing places like remploy to close and the clusterfuck that is universal credit that ok as it’s only the poor.

Be careful what you wish for. We've been in the States for more than 20 years and, while we hate the little Englander Brexit stuff, we really can't wait to come home.
Really? Has the whole Brexit thing and the exposure of all the bigotry in this country not out you off?

I do hate the weather. But almost everywhere is struggling with the virus, and/or something else.

Other than that it’s a decent place to live really. Pretty well connected and we have the best team sports.
Outside of the americas pretty much nowhere is struggling the way we are. Two and a bit whole continents worth of countries are doing better than us

it’s not so much England I am sick of, it’s modern life. We live in a beautiful part of England and being close to the border with a beautiful part of Scotland is an added bonus.

But I do feel increasingly irrelevant in this modern world, maybe it’s an age thing.

My wife was in 2004. Came to Spain towards the end of that year. Had lots of ups and downs. However we do not regret it.

To pick up on one comment from earlier. My personal view is that, on balance, Spanish authorities at all levels have done an ok job.

Much better than the shitstorm that appears to be happening in the uk.

Yes, dislike most things about living in England. It’s only our jobs keeping us here, certainly want to be gone before we have kids though, wouldn’t want to bring them up in this sort of environment as the country looks to be going one way

You’re including Africa in that? ok but there are swings and roundabouts aren’t there, covid isn’t the only consideration. The other continents are in very different scenarios. Most of Europe and the Americas are going as badly as us if not worse.

Anyway, England is alright. Moving is a lot harder now anyway!
