Atmosphere tonight was so disappointing

Maybe its because I am feeling so bloody miserable but I just dont get this fan obsession around atmospheres, how many fans different teams have, what songs people sing, etc.
For those who do care, we met some coventry fans on the way back down south last night who volunteered that they though the atmosphere at the Riverside was incredible. Trouble is we lost which is all that matters.

Yeah seems to be modern phenomenon, sky sports etc. Personally I would have traded playing every game next season behind closed doors for a win at Wembley.

I think it's because going to watch a football team is a tribal pack mentality thing, a huge part of the thrill is belonging to this group consciousness. Which the atmosphere of course affects.

Although, what I would say is they seemed better than they have in the past when it’s been tensez

Atmosphere was fine, if you were there, you would know that.

Saw it boiling over a bit on the walk out the ground just before the first tunnel though, few lads arguing with one fan because he was slagging Gibson off.

As fans there's literally only one thing you can do to try and influence the game - create an atmosphere, thats get behind your team, intimidate the opposition and influence the ref.

There was a large portion of the Riverside (last night) who just sat there quietly as the game progressed. I know its probably just nerves but sat looking through your hands or biting your nails doesn't influence anything on pitch.

Last night wasn't a patch on the Brighton atmosphere and many other great games/nights we've had at the Riverside whether people like to hear it or not thats a fact.

Would it have changed the result? Maybe not but getting nervous, edgy and frustrated certainly doesn't help.

This isn't about some petty social media thing to look good in front of opposition fans on Facebook, the fans can genuinely influence the outcome of games. If that wasn't the case then why bother even making any noise in the ground. Where I was sat there were loads of people sat quiet for large parts of the game. Some of the crowd gave their all but plenty didn't.

Yes, fair point and I do appreciate that the tribal aspect is a huge part of following a football team. I just sometimes get the impression that for some people the off field stuff is at least as important as what is happening on the pitch which I find completely baffling.

Silver lining on last night - I've never been to Plymouth!

The atmosphere was building massively and organically well before kickoff.
Then the build up music came on very loud and completely killed it .
Well done to who ever orchestrates that.
You are clueless.

Don't think that's true though.

The atmosphere carried on brilliantly in to the match.

It was only when it was obvious that the team were struggling to break them down that it started to die off a bit, and that was about 20 minutes in.

It's not how it came across on the TV. There was loads of crowd noise when we were on top, which is the norm, and we were for spells, and the chanting was loud too, from both sets of fans

But it was stopped dead for 10 minutes and had to start up again after kickoff.

Was great atmosphere on sky. Was loud and plenty of songs and chants sung when not alot was happening. Only really heard coventry consistently after they scored which is natural. I thought boro fans responded well to try and push the lads on despite no big moments to give them hope of an equaliser.

Was listening to talk sport on way home last night, several Coventry fans phoned in happy with their result but also extremely complimentary on the atmosphere created by the home fans, loudest they’ve heard said one, noise from home fan’s brilliant said another. Funny how their experience differs from some of our fans

I thought it was really good just before kick off and for the first part of the match, but after that I think it definitely did die down, only really picking up in fits and starts. I think that's to be expected of probably any football crowd though. The whole anticipation and excitement is there at the start so the atmosphere will always be brilliant before the match/opening stages, but for all the crowd are there to help the players, there simply has to be something on the pitch from the players to keep the fans going throughout.

Atmospheres are always better when everybody there truly cares for the result as well. Last night, as with other big crowds/sell outs we've had, included a load of people purely there to say they were the there/there mates were there/a day and night on the pish/to stick videos and photos on socials etc. Each to their own and it's all money into the club, but I always find these dilute the atmosphere somewhat. It was really clear that loads of people there weren't really arsed when they started leaving at 90 minutes, couldn't believe how many people were going.
