Atmosphere tonight was so disappointing

I thought it was really good just before kick off and for the first part of the match, but after that I think it definitely did die down, only really picking up in fits and starts. I think that's to be expected of probably any football crowd though. The whole anticipation and excitement is there at the start so the atmosphere will always be brilliant before the match/opening stages, but for all the crowd are there to help the players, there simply has to be something on the pitch from the players to keep the fans going throughout.

Atmospheres are always better when everybody there truly cares for the result as well. Last night, as with other big crowds/sell outs we've had, included a load of people purely there to say they were the there/there mates were there/a day and night on the pish/to stick videos and photos on socials etc. Each to their own and it's all money into the club, but I always find these dilute the atmosphere somewhat. It was really clear that loads of people there weren't really arsed when they started leaving at 90 minutes, couldn't believe how many people were going.
Do you think it would have been a better 'atmosphere' if there were lots of empty red seats?

Same argument is used whenever we have a big crowd and fail, and it's utter nonsense. Those who usually make the 'great atmosphere' were still there, such as yourself. Do they suddenly become shy when there are a few strangers about, or was it that we only had one shot on target and rarely bothered them?

My thoughts.....
Team/performance was pretty dissapointing/ineffective
Atmosphere was great. 30k+ turned up
It was not fans fault we lost. We did the club/town proud

Disappointed at what they'd just watched i'd say and the way the season fizzled out the way it did

Where was the team that smashed Preston and Norwich .. wasnt there sadly

We left on 95 .. couldnt face watching the Cov players celebrate with their supporters

I don't think anybody is saying that it was the crowd's fault we lost, it is just comments on the atmosphere. I don't think it came close to a few previous big games we've had.

May seem slightly controversial but unlike some I think we have a very (very) knowledgeable fan base. I heard the noise dip on tv around 20 mins in after an ear blasting build up (I'm 3,500 miles away at the moment just to pre-empt any armchair fan comments). I think it dipped because the support could sense what was happening on the pitch. Anxieties (mine included) have been through the roof since the normal season ended. 30,000 human beings were preparing themselves for a seemingly unimaginable disappointment. We are Boro after all, so it is an ingrained part your birthright to limit your expectations. Even with 8 pints of Stella working its way through your system it's hard to sing yourself horse when your heart is slowly breaking. It may be Xmas until its that full again but they (we) will be back... After a long sabbatical, I'm super excited to be returning as a ST Holder in Block 69 2023/2024 with the bairns. Onwards and upwards people.

We sit in the SWC, atmosphere and noise were exellent, easily the best all season. Maybe people are just disappointed it wasn't as good as Brighton which it might have been if we had scored.
