Do you think it would have been a better 'atmosphere' if there were lots of empty red seats?I thought it was really good just before kick off and for the first part of the match, but after that I think it definitely did die down, only really picking up in fits and starts. I think that's to be expected of probably any football crowd though. The whole anticipation and excitement is there at the start so the atmosphere will always be brilliant before the match/opening stages, but for all the crowd are there to help the players, there simply has to be something on the pitch from the players to keep the fans going throughout.
Atmospheres are always better when everybody there truly cares for the result as well. Last night, as with other big crowds/sell outs we've had, included a load of people purely there to say they were the there/there mates were there/a day and night on the pish/to stick videos and photos on socials etc. Each to their own and it's all money into the club, but I always find these dilute the atmosphere somewhat. It was really clear that loads of people there weren't really arsed when they started leaving at 90 minutes, couldn't believe how many people were going.
Same argument is used whenever we have a big crowd and fail, and it's utter nonsense. Those who usually make the 'great atmosphere' were still there, such as yourself. Do they suddenly become shy when there are a few strangers about, or was it that we only had one shot on target and rarely bothered them?
