Disappointed in Azaz

Not torn up any trees yet, but there's a player in there. Seems to be on the periphery of the game for long periods, but when he gets involved like second half today, link up play looks very good - clearly still building up understanding with the boys around him.

Been awful so far. Be careful what you say though or you will be accused of " writing him off already "

Hopefully he comes good, but from the 4 games from him so far he has not been great. It doesn't help he keeps getting shafted onto the left mind.

Not great I agree but to be fair he’s joined a side devoid of confidence and ideas and he’s been thrown in the deep end.

He needs pace around him , and minimal defense responsibilities...
Technically he looks to have ability...
Sounds v v v v v familiar
Yeah I get he's like a Lee tomlin type player but really he was our big January signing and he's not what we really needed we need that pace wingers and a Striker. I feel he's more a cherry on top of the cake type player but we have no base around him for him to be effective

Azaz hasn't been great, but it's early days, he seems to be holding onto the ball too long and slowing the game down a bit too much. However he's not the only one, the lack of tempo in our play at times is staggering, compared to last season. I know we don't have the same calibre of players but it looks like deliberate tactics considering how deep the midfield drop at times.

I'm not slating him btw , it's unfair for loads of reasons..
1) I'm not a spoilt Doyle who expects a 22 year old to move 300 miles and be mint at his job.
2) He probably has no idea who he's playing alongside more than two days before.
3) There's obviously a good footballer in there with his weight of pass / thinking/ creativity. Seen that much.
4) it's not his fault he's playing in a front 4 with 3 having minimal pace / athleticism/ physicality or natural finishing abilities.

He looks a rolls Royce type , but will only flourish with a team that suits, and someone else does the dirty work of being a forward

He looks to me to have good ball control. He again played a couple of really good through balls, one to Greenwood in the 2nd half, after he'd received the ball on the half-turn.

Think he needs to be playing as a 10. I'm hopeful he will help to bring out the best in Lath when he returns, playing him balls in behind.

At times today I was thinking imagine if we still had Archer in the side, I think he would have liked playing with Azaz.

That's not true. He joined a side that had just had some decent results, won on his debut and then gave Villa a good game and beat Chelsea at home in his first week. Confidence was sky high. It's since then it's all gone down hill and his performances haven't helped matters.

I do think it's too early to judge too harshly. He's showed flashes of good play. If you buy development players then part of that development is going to involve good and bad performances. I'm less worried about him than I am about some of the others that are clearly never going to be good enough.

Playing him on the left clearly does not work - he looked better when he was more central behind Greenwood. We are a bit of car crash at the moment though so i would not be passing judgement on him just yet. He might benefit from being on the bench for a few games and working his way more slowly into things from there

He looked better through the centre in the second half. No surprise we looked slightly improved the second half when he came inside and Hackney started dropping back and missing out Barlaser
