Liverpool fans

All these contributed:

Fake tickets
Ticketless 'fans' (why any ?)
Not enough tickets for 'genuine' fans
Too many expensive / corporate tickets sold / handed out
Ground capacities
Lack of organisation.......France, Spain, Italy etc, not used to 'away' fans at games; generally only 'home' fans are present in those countries
Like anything it’s a number a contributors.

Sounds like security was the biggest cause.

fake tickets and tickless fans sound like the 2nd biggest cause

It's clear that ordinary, genuine fans have been treated deplorably and they've done nothing wrong. Worst of all kids have been clearly very shaken by their awful experiences.
However in a search for answers we just love to blame the 'faceless authorities'. When the 'faceless authorities' are Johnny foreigner so much the better.
How about we throw some personal responsibility into the mix for once. Responsibility to do as asked, to follow the rules, not to turn up at the ground ticketless, not to purchase tickets other than through proper channels. It's not that difficult but boorish, selfish, boastful t**ts who think they're "not doing any 'arm mate" once again spoil it for others. How about we call those b***ds out this time.

Edit: Change the bloody thread title. The thread is valid, the title is not.

I can’t be a proper football fan. I literally have no idea why anyone ticketless would spend good money on just travelling, let alone travelling and trying to get access illegally. Trouble and angst just seems to follow Liverpool fans around.

All clubs have their scum/pond-life element, Liverpool no different, but does seem this utter reluctance for them to accept their fans had a role to play in what happened. Plenty of decent fans, feel sorry for all the genuine supporters caught up in that last night....... especially the ones with tickets.

It’s not a vile thread. There are numerous factors that aligned to cause the problems.

Nobody has said 10s of thousands were up to no good, but it’s clear thst fake / no tickets caused issues at the turnstiles. It’s clearly been badly managed by UEFA/Police, potentially stricter entry after the paris bombings a few years ago around this very stadium.
Why is that clear? Because you saw a video of 5 people climbing a fence that means that Liverpool fans were at fault for being stood in a queue for 3 hours?

There’s plenty of people who have tweeted about what was going on, not just Liverpool fans but journalists and impartial people, I don’t know why it’s being ignored.

Presumably those people blaming Liverpool fans for what’s happened would be fine with Boro fans being blamed for what happened in Rome? Surely there must’ve been Boro fans arriving late, with fake tickets or no tickets at all… because the authorities and police and security firms don’t just attack people or use pepper spray or truncheons indiscriminately… do they? I can’t see them doing that. They must’ve had a reason to be spraying people, smashing people over the head, abusing power and generally causing chaos.

There’s a reason they plant and spread information about ticketless fans, drunk fans, etc. It’s because it works. This thread proves that point perfectly. Blame supporters first while we get our stories straight.

I agree with a lot of what you say, just a small point I know but you can’t always get tickets from the proper source. I had to buy a ticket for Eindhoven off a “Boro” fan (who bought in the lottery from the club) for £300 who had absolutely no intention of going to the game.

There was no way in the world I was going to miss Boro in a European cup final.

I’m a gold card holder now I suspect he isn’t. Gripe over.

There are stories emerging especially from independent journalist observers caught up in the chaos that the organisation has a lot to answer for. A cordon around the stadium to stop ticketless fans and local youths intent on causing bother may have prevented them from getting to the entrance gates where the scenes of trouble took place. They do this at other big profile games. They always do it at World Cup finals games. For the UEFA show piece event they should have anticipated it.

Some people showing their character here, practically rubbing their hands with glee due to unfounded reports blaming Liverpool fans.

I’m presuming they thought our treatment in Rome etc was fine and we deserved it too? Then again they probably weren’t there.

And there is factual reporting somewhere that 15k fans arrived at the ground without tickets is there?

Or is it just some nonsense on some knobs twatter account?
Not sure on 'arrived at the ground' but it has been reported pretty widely that around 60,000 Liverpool fans were in Paris for the final, their ticket allocation was a little over 19500. That is quite a lot of extra people milling about where genuine ticket holders were trying to make their way through the screening and in to the stadium.

Understand your point but if it turns out the ticket is fake, always a chance, then that could spill over in ways other than you simply not getting in, particularly if there are numbers of fake tickets. You would have to take your share of the responsibility in that situation.
At the end of the day it's a bloody football match, life is about disappointments and how you handle them. The Boro have taught me that if nowt else.🙂

I must admit it wasn’t something me or any of my mates really thought about at the time. I just remember the whole experience being really stressful and being annoyed at uefa for selecting a stadium too small for the occasion.

the fact merseyside police have arrested someone who was printing fake tickets, UEFAs statement said turnstiles were blocked by people trying to gain entry with fake tickets which choked the turnstiles up.

The rest of the mismanagement also needs to be looked at.

Plenty of Boro fans travelled to Eindhoven without a ticket AET. Possibly some of those post on this forum. I doubt that any Boro fan tried to use a fake ticket but many were prepared to pay over the odds to a tout.

I just don't get this generalisation of anyone who supports Liverpool FC.

Yes Eindhoven’s stadium was far too small to hold a European final but thankfully there was no issue outside the ground that night that I saw.

Lots of hostility from local youths in St Denys being talked about. The Stadium is in a rough area of Paris.

I know.
I just wouldn’t do it.
Waste of time, money and energy if you don’t get to see the game.
But that’s just me.
