Liverpool fans

I just skipped by the last page of posts, read everything prior to that. It's the polices responsability to..... Ah police this, sensibly. They did not, and young fans, children, were scared by this. Forget about the odd Liverpool fan. They were not the problem. The overarching problem was the police response.

F***ing disgraceful. I have nothing more to say.

You simply do not know how many Liverpool fans added to the organisational problems.

I know.
I just wouldn’t do it.
Waste of time, money and energy if you don’t get to see the game.
But that’s just me.
I went to Eindhoven with my son. I hoped to get tickets but didn't really expect to.
I thought the time, money and energy would be worth it to be part of a probably once in a lifetime experience.
The flight over, the time spent in Amsterdam, the coach journey to Eindhoven (organised via FMTTM), an afternoon mixing with Sevilla fans, the atmosphere outside the stadium during the build up to the match - all superb memories.
The fanzone, match result and journey back not so much 🙁.

Scandalous scenes of Liverpool fans' behaviour from last night's Champions League Final on social media. If you haven't got a ticket, don't jump the fences. They more than most know what atrocities that can lead to.

How on earth they can continue to play the victim is beyond me. It's also frustrating how the media pander to them and refuse to call them out for it. Must be the fault of the locals, the police, UEFA...
So people who've lost loved ones in circumstances not of their own making are "playing the victim"?
Grouping thousands of people as all the same is as ludicrous as any stereotype.
Boro fans turn up in other towns and behave like nobs, but most don't

Organised gangs robbing fans en masse on the way out adds such a horrible flavour to all this.

From the Guardian, Jason McAteer’s wife was mugged, his son was attacked. Joel Matip’s brother was mugged. Robbie Fowler was stuck in the bother, didn’t get in until second half.

And I mean, these are the VIPs. That’s got to be the tip of the iceberg.

I know Paris is gritty and San-Denis is one grim area, but that’s new - and horrific.

Hmmm. So it now appears that the Liverpool fans were blameless according to UK police and media reports. UEFA investigating and the French changing their tune.

Time for an apology from you for starting this disgusting 'playing the victim' thread?

An apology from me? For calling out ticketless fans who managed to get into the ground unlawfully. What on earth are you talking about?

I've accepted that I could have been more tactful, and have amended the title of the thread to suit, but I will never accept that jumping barriers, fences, and using counterfeit tickets is acceptable. Neither should any fellow fan as it's the genuine ones who lose out.

Also, below is the top BBC news story and it highlights, specifically, Liverpool fans with fake tickets caused the initial problems.

The French authorities are meeting UEFA this morning, likely to get their story straight. Thousands of ticketless Liverpool fans overwhelmed the security cordon forcing the police to react in an entirely reasonable manner ........cover up? UEFA bent? Nooooo 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I get our fans travelling to the ends of the earth without tickets to sample the at atmosphere etc as it truly was a once in a lifetime event.

But this is Liverpool they do this all the time getting to major finals and they have won this competition only a few years ago so it’s a huge difference.

Mexicans travel to every World Cup in their thousands - ie 50-60 000 - most don't have tickets but they go the celebration. In Germany for their World Cup they invited the world in to have a football celebration whether fans had tickets or not. It was criticised by our media but it was a fantastic celebration in every World Cup city.
Fast forward to France Euro 2016 - and whilst nowhere near as bad as the terrible situation Liverpool fans faced - I remember terrible queues ahead of England's game at St Etienne. Despite getting to the ground really early we had to wait for hours outside, without and information and we had to squeeze through all manner of tiny gaps between police, their vehicles and their fences, in a process that took hours to gain entry. You get very worried in those situations as there is no communication and there are pinch points where potentially if something goes wrong you could be trapped.
Don't be so quick to blame fans. They don't ask to be corralled and left waiting for hours and even be pepper sprayed etc. It was bad enough after Stoke City for Boro fans, but just imagine that before the game and multiply the time spent waiting and the numbers to 20 000.

It's quite embarrassing that you are continuing with this. It is literally all over the news / breakfast TV this morning that the Liverpool fans were not to blame and that it was the French police that kettled fans and were. One story this morning was a guy and his two blind friends who went 3 hours before KO with genuine tickets and still encountered these problems. Were the blind jumping over fences?

It is really telling that you post a news report quoting a French minister blaming Liverpool fans to support your stance. It is also telling how in your initial post you rule out that the locals, police and UEFA could have been at fault. It's like your mind was already made up. Like you had a pre-existing chip on your shoulder about Liverpool fans.

The host cities hope for fans without tickets, it's not only the game which is the attraction, but the many 10000s of fans who come, use the fan zones spend their money over the weekend, it only tends to only become an issue with English clubs, as a whole we have a history of incidents on the continent.
