March for Palestine - Centre Square - 2pm.

just a thought .....what did you really think israel would do

If it was done to this country by an old empire state , would you support it ?
The IRA bombed cities throughout the 70’s 80’s and 90’s ,did the UK government carpet bomb Dublin , Cork or anywhere else in Ireland? No because it is patently wrong to subject innocent civilians to such horror, that is unless you’re Israel .

Imagine carpet bombing the Divis Flats or the Shankhill !
******* hell!

Turned out to be a fabricated story

Isn't that insane? I know we're all aware that governments practice propaganda and lie, of course they do.

But somewhere there must be some Israeli military officers, who sat around and planned out telling the world media a fake story that babies heads had been chopped off. There'll be journalists that knew it wasn't true and reported it anyway.

All to buy support and time so they could carry out this bombing massacre. Which is presumably happening just so they can expand their borders a bit.

I don't understand why we can't have a march for peace instead, rather than marches in favour of either side to be honest. Surely it's just going to further the division?

2 reasons.

Firstly, its such a one sided conflict. Israel are the occupying force and the one doing the vast, vast majority of the killing.

Secondly, western governments are already so supportive of Israel what would a popular protest/march be asking for on their behalf?

Surely a tribunal would pay out for loss of earnings

The German Government have tried to suppress pro-palestinian marches: players are censored - by sacking them - for posting against civillians being murdered in Gaza.

What did Hamas think would happen?
How did the most sophisticated hi-tech military force in the world "miss" Hamas ?

This is the IDF`s statement of role of UNIT 8200
1699217022387.png
The main mission of the Military Intelligence Directorate is to supply the government and IDF with intelligence warnings and alerts daily and during wartime to protect Israel from threats. In order to enable security forces to defend Israel against threats, the Intelligence Corps must utilize many resources and tightly track terrorist activities and developments in Arab countries as well as technological advancements worldwide.

Tracking the growth of terrorist organizations requires in-depth intelligence collection. Intelligence information comes from a variety of sources and is processed by Intelligence Corps soldiers to create an updated situation assessment.

The corps’ soldiers work day and night on improving their methods for better collection, processing and evaluation of intelligence information. Constantly developing new systems and tools for intelligence tracking is also crucial. The soldiers are responsible for transmitting the information and updating it in real time.

The directorate is made up of 3 main units- the 8200 Unit, the 9900 Unit and the 504 Unit. The biggest of which is the 8200 Unit, the Military Intelligence Directorate's main information gathering unit. Soldiers in the unit are in charge of developing and utilizing information gathering tools, analyzing, processing and sharing of the gathered info to relevant officials. The unit operates in all zones and in wartime, they join combat field headquarters in order to enable a faster flow of information.

Some roles in the Military Intelligence Directorate include:

  • Listening. Soldiers who do this job have to be able to combine a very high level of Arabic with selection and synthesis abilities.
  • Translation of information. The translators must not only translate a text from one language to another, but must also master tools in order to be selective in translations based on information from reports.
  • Decryption of aerial images. This involves interpreting aerial information and turning it into maps.
  • Electronics technician. This includes the establishment of verification systems, manufacture of electronic cards, construction of secure computer terminals, and more.
The corps also has an elite unit, Sayeret Matkal. It is considered the best combat unit in the Israeli army and one of the best special forces units in the world. It is a unit where professionalism is built into a way of life. The unit is not part of any regional command; it only responds to orders from the Chief of General Staff.

The unit's fighters are selected with the utmost care, through rigorous testing and challenging physical examinations. The combatants are specialized in commando and scouting operations (navigation, orientation, using a wide range of vehicles, etc.). State-of-the-art technological equipment is at their disposal for them to keep up with innovations.

Again. You didn't answer the question.
I'm not for a second advocating the genocide in Gaza right now.

It’s almost like they left the keys in the front door.

But what did Hamas expect when they slaughtered over 1000 Israelis?
I suspect Hamas, or some of their leadership at least, wanted to provoke a reaction. Possibly underestimated the magnitude, but it's in their interests to continue to stoke the flames. For the people in charge this about power as much as anything else. Should Israel ever genuinely look for and agree a fair agreement then hamas' purpose ceases to exist.

Same as some in the Israeli government are probably secretly pleased Hamas made the attacks. It solidifies their grip on power and gives them excuses for more Draconian laws.

That's what a lot of this is about. Power. To hell with everyone else.

Israel was always going to react but their reaction is nothing short of disgraceful now. Bombing the **** out of a small place claiming everything they hit is Hamas is shocking.

But what did Hamas expect when they slaughtered over 1000 Israelis?

I think this is the wrong question to ask tbh. Imagine a country invaded Britain, forced all of us to live in Aberdeenshire, controlled the borders, food supply, energy, and everything else. Suppose the most powerful countries in the world sided with them doing it, and refused to recognise us as a country. There can be no doubt we'd have people that would violently lash out too.

What I'm saying is I don't necessarily think there was a massive strategic objective behind Hamas' attack. More like just rage and an opportunity. And I don't think risk assessments will have been a big part of their planning either.

Imagine invading? They didn't just 'invade'. They slaughtered 1000+ people the vast majority innocent civilians.
Not the best comparison.

I think you’ve completely misunderstood his point. The comparison isn’t a comparison as such. It’s a history lesson.
