Racism.

Morning laughing.
I cant post the vile abuse on here - out of decency and respect - but it goes beyond even the pretext of the usual veiled racism.
One awards "points" for hanging, whipping and killing a "N.....".
Other filth highlights the race of each player who missed a penalty.
Its FASCISM pure and simple.
One poster even has his picture and address of his workplace and job! [I`ve photo-shot the post and sent details to the company, who will hopefully investigate if the person is genuine and works for them. If he does, I hope he gets fired and prosecuted].
That is a new level of bad roofie. Deliberately stayed away after reading the op and stuck to the BBC report that wow posted.

I don't need to be reading that kinda stuff. Surely it goes a bit beyond racism in terms of crime committed.

Racism runs in the veins of our country.
To fight it we have to begin by admitting it to ourselves, not denying it or making excuses.
Racism is violence - make no mistake.

Your right roofie there needs to be a well thought out structured approach to tackle racism through detection and punishment and education.

Can you really see anyone in the current cabinet that actually gives two hoots about racism though. I can't.

Someone standing up in parliament and tackling this head on would be a start.

Boris Johnson on 7th June:

With a slew of Conservative MPs and right-wing commentators stirring up further controversy, fan groups called on those who jeered before two recent friendlies to stop. England play their opening Group D fixture against Croatia on Sunday.
Asked about the booing before England’s match against Romania at the Riverside on Sunday, the prime minister’s official spokesman seemed to offer support to both sides of an increasingly heated argument.

The prime minister “fully respects the right of those who choose to peacefully protest and make their feelings known”, the spokesman said, adding: “On taking the knee, specifically, the prime minister is more focused on action rather than gestures. We have taken action with things like the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Disparities and that’s what he’s focused on delivering.”

The Commission on Racial and Ethnic Disparities was widely criticised by experts for a selective use of evidence and concluding there was no evidence of institutional racism in the UK.

On the subject of the team the spokesman struck a different note, however. “The PM is supporting the England football team and wants them to succeed and wants the whole country to get behind them in that endeavour,” he said.

Gareth Southgate has confirmed his players will take the knee on Sunday and throughout the tournament. “It’s not going to stop what we’re doing and what we believe. It’s not going to stop my support for our players and staff,” he said on Sunday – and that they will answer no further questions on the subject.

That may prove difficult should there be more booing at Wembley against Croatia, where a crowd of 22,500 is expected, twice the number at the Riverside where all tickets were sold to members of the England Supporters Travel Club.

Free Lions, a part of the Football Supporters’ Association that represents England fans, called for unity. Observing how fans rebuked the racist abuse directed at some England players in Bulgaria in 2019, “we have to ask where that solidarity has gone”, the group wrote.

“English football fans have a great reputation around the world for the numbers in which we travel, the passion we demonstrate in supporting our team, and our ability to party enthusiastically well into the night,” Free Lions said in an open letter. “The most-dedicated fans in the world shouldn’t be booing our own players before kick-off. We’d urge those of you booing players to have a think about your behaviour and its impact.”

The Football Association is understood to be working with the ESTC on establishing new barriers to entry at England matches for fans found to be involved in antisocial or discriminatory behaviour.

Other voices have called for unity too, but of a different kind. A leader in the Times on Saturday said England should stop taking the knee, arguing it had “exhausted its purpose and is now more divisive than it is helpful”. They were followed by the red wall MP Brendan Clarke-Smith, who called it “habitual tokenism” and “a divisive and confrontational matter” before comparing England’s actions to those of the team that gave the Nazi salute before a match in Berlin in 1936.

“Focusing the debate about how we do anti-racism over time is probably the best way forward now,” said Sunder Katwala of British Future, an independent think tank that works on issues of identity and race. “If you want to put a reasonable challenge to the so-called criticism of these gestures, it would be to ask [critics] to be clear on how they would challenge the racism that is still there.”

British Future will this week publish a report on race and identity and the lessons to be learned from football, with Katwala arguing it has played a central role in diminishing racism in England. “In the 1970s West Bromwich Albion in particular and the England team did more to change the idea of who could be English than the Commission for Racial Equality or the Race Relations Act ever did,” he said.

“The England team of 2018 represented the young diverse England of the cities but also the England of leave voting towns in Yorkshire. The England team is one thing we have in common across England, and in some ways we’ve had something in football that we’re not confident we’ve got outside of these footballing summers.

“That is now being contested again within football. I think there’s a danger the booing does ruin the feel good effect of this championship.”

Boris Johnson this morning:

The irony - for the Prime Minister, whose racism fuels the fire blazing behind him - without a tinge of guilt or responsibility has the brazen hypocrisy to post:

Gary Neville was first class on Sky today. Catch the full interview if you can. Called out Johnson over his comments about muslim women. When asked if the PM should take a leaf out of Southgates book he said there was no comparison betwwen the two men.

Had to call someone out in the pub last night for pointing racial abuse at those who missed the penalities and why they were even playing for England. Had a go at the same person two days ago having ago at
Emma Raducanu saying why should she play for Britain. Its the same ones all the time in the Pub and they don't get any better. Swear they are not rascist and as soon as the have a couple of pints of dutch courage the go off again.

On a side not I thought the message Rashford sent to Radacanu the other day was brilliant. Shows the class of the man.

However, Raducanu also said she still did not know what caused the episode but suggested it was likely to have “a combination of everything that has gone on behind the scenes in the last week and an accumulation of the excitement and buzz”.

Her sentiments were echoed by Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford, who said he had suffered something similar.

“It happened to me playing for the national team in U16s against Wales,” Rashford wrote on Twitter.

“I remember it to this day. No explanation for it and it never happened again.

“You should be very proud of yourself. The country is proud of you. Glad to read your feeling better. Onwards and upwards.”

One of the main reasons I was devastated losing on penalties the way we did last night was the inevitable abuse and threats Rashford, Sancho and Saka were going to receive for their misses.

It's just awful, 3 young lads who will be devastated at missing a penalty in a major final now having to put up with so called England fans abusing them because of the colour of their skin.

I say "put up" with because nowhere near enough has been done to stop it, not by football authorities, world governments or social media companies.

I'm gutted for them on the pitch, but heartbroken for what's happening off it. It has to stop!

Many people appear to have reported this "man" to his employer.

It seems the company have found the racist:

Just @ bit sad reading some Facebook comments from mates who were there last night. Here’s a sample from one.

“Sadly the racist abuse of our wonderful young players didn’t surprise me last night, even as they stepped up to take the penalties I was already feeling for them should they miss because I knew the abuse they’d be getting.

So before the first ball was kicked the knee was booed and after the last ball was kicked the racist abuse started

I’ve been watching England home and away since 2005 and the last few years has seen a real rise in knobheads following us fuelled by nationalism I suspect, but what encouraged me this tournament was the amount of British asian, black and LGBT supporters on twitter saying this was the first tournament where they felt there was a team that spoke to them, that they felt represented them and that’s kudos to Southgate and the team for reading the room.

As for the game, in response to the above, well 3 people behind me started to boo the Italian National anthem until I told them to shut the **** up and the guy next to turned his back when the players took the knee, I asked him why but he couldn’t answer, too busy singing ‘god save the Queen’ out of tune

The atmosphere was miles better for the Denmark game TBH even when we were winning , after lauding the seat I had I think tier 5 actually makes for a better atmosphere as you feel more enclosed. The team seemed more interested in not losing than winning though and we needed some experience for the pens

But this team will get better and have a think about how many players missed out as well (compare this squad to the one we had in 2016)

Here are some photos and a couple of videos
See you in Qatar, unless we boycott it”

And another

“Hope you enjoyed the game even though we lost. Sadly, we were stuck next to guys openly dealing cocaine..I reported then and got threatened with a right hook, all while security did **** all.

Hobbling about on crutches with folks ramming the disabled entrance, lifts not working at Wembley Central etc and a really hostile feel all night really did make me wonder why I went. Compare that to Germany game which was much better.

I'd suspect ESTC away days would be better as you don't have the local idiots, but Wembley security was laughable and just full of stewards who didn't have the first clue about anything. Could have been a lot worse last night.”

Some kids in Manchester have contacted Marcus Rashford after we managed to get so far last night.
This is how it sums up how they feel....
I`de sooner miss a penalty and have a million Marcus Rashford`s than call the racist scum "England" fans.

It’s seems to be getting stronger doesn’t it. There is no question things like Brexit and our own prime minister who is racist himself have helped embolden the racists. Allowed them to speak up

social media itself plays a big part too.

I’d imagine a good percentage of Twitter racists are doing it because the anonymity makes them brave, most are too thick to be influenced by much else, especially politics.

essentially people feel they can sit behind an anonymous screen name and pretty much tag anybody in a vile message. Twitter is the worst for it. And the truth is, they can do it and nothing will get done about it. They will probably get banned from Twitter at best and make a new account.

the concept of social media is a wonderful thing but it’s pretty much been overtaken by vile idiots, or people just out to harm each other over one agenda or another.

it brings out the worse in a lot of people.
