Racism.

Gary Neville was first class on Sky today. Catch the full interview if you can. Called out Johnson over his comments about muslim women. When asked if the PM should take a leaf out of Southgates book he said there was no comparison betwwen the two men.

Had to call someone out in the pub last night for pointing racial abuse at those who missed the penalities and why they were even playing for England. Had a go at the same person two days ago having ago at
Emma Raducanu saying why should she play for Britain. Its the same ones all the time in the Pub and they don't get any better. Swear they are not rascist and as soon as the have a couple of pints of dutch courage the go off again.

On a side not I thought the message Rashford sent to Radacanu the other day was brilliant. Shows the class of the man.

However, Raducanu also said she still did not know what caused the episode but suggested it was likely to have “a combination of everything that has gone on behind the scenes in the last week and an accumulation of the excitement and buzz”.

Her sentiments were echoed by Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford, who said he had suffered something similar.

“It happened to me playing for the national team in U16s against Wales,” Rashford wrote on Twitter.

“I remember it to this day. No explanation for it and it never happened again.

“You should be very proud of yourself. The country is proud of you. Glad to read your feeling better. Onwards and upwards.”
Good on you ARATC for speaking out and challenging a racist.

One of the main reasons I was devastated losing on penalties the way we did last night was the inevitable abuse and threats Rashford, Sancho and Saka were going to receive for their misses.

It's just awful, 3 young lads who will be devastated at missing a penalty in a major final now having to put up with so called England fans abusing them because of the colour of their skin.

I say "put up" with because nowhere near enough has been done to stop it, not by football authorities, world governments or social media companies.

I'm gutted for them on the pitch, but heartbroken for what's happening off it. It has to stop!
I think it's the same group of people every time. At a rough guess less than 5000, too many I know but a Tiny %. I can't remember the last time I heard a racist comment.

I am not sure winding Jocks up counts as its Given each way.

Social Media is absolutely poisonous at times and it gives people with abhorrent views a platform to vent them. Any Twitter account with that abuse must be banned and shut down. Freedom of speech doesn't include abusing young lads because they missed a penalty and happen to be black. It's a disgrace.

Nothing unusual is it?

Soon as right wing people know there is an opportunity they cant resist, and people wonder why we object to dog whistle right wing politics like Farage and his ilk or far right Tories.
There has always been that element of evil attached to it, and that's why decent people don't get involved with them.

They should take a look at themselves.

Well said Ticker.
Welcome back btw.

I heard he's on the bandwagon already and inviting the team to Downing Street..I know most, if not all Prime ministers, would do that..But coming from a Prime Minister who is a racist himself I think it would be a good gesture if the team told him to FCUK OFF

This from Baroness Syeeda Warsi (a Conservative life peer) on Twitter

Priti -we as govt, as @Conservatives
need to think about our role in feeding this culture in our country
If we “whistle” & the”dog” reacts we cant be shocked if it barks &bites
It’s time to stop the culture wars that are feeding division
Dog whistles win votes but destroy nations

Basically, hopefully, the infantile gammons of the board can now see why the players take the knee. Its come home to roost for the gammons.

It’s seems to be getting stronger doesn’t it. There is no question things like Brexit and our own prime minister who is racist himself have helped embolden the racists. Allowed them to speak up
Is there nothing Brexit' to blame for? The monkey chants heard: Spanish and Italian grounds, Hungary. Poland, Russia,

The open racism in the American South, KKK, the caste system,

The National Front winning seats in Bow, Le Pen.

Racists are disgusting, I don't even understand the concept, but to blame Brexit' for it when it's being going on for 100's of years is quite sad.

He's not blamed Brexit for racism.

It has, along with social media's anonymous keyboard warriors, provided the platform for it's increased prevalence and acceptance.

It's allowed intolerance to fester and helped put in a government who has allowed and encouraged it to win votes.

It has definitely played a part in the current surge of racism.

If I could be bothered I'd dig up the thread where several posters excused fans booing the England players taking the knee before the friendlies at the Riverside and I would ask every single one of them to reconsider their opinion based on subsequent events.

I'm not going to but hopefully those posters might already be thinking again about supporting positive actions like BLM and all Anti Racism campaigns rather than excusing behaviour that encourages or emboldens racism in the future.

Ref Racism - The best way to stop it is to cut it out at source. Its a long job but it is happening in this country.

I am sure all the fans on here from the 1970s and 80s will agree good progress has been made, but its not fully complete.

Another tactic is for the very rich social media companies to block it and had over racist account details to the Police.

If Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Whats App can send you highly personlised adverts they can block racist words and emojis. They don't seem overly bothered and send senders details tyo the Police its more important to them that we are all "connected" in their words. I am also angry with people in the media who keep saying there is nothing social media companies can do. They can.

I disagree, it was horrendous in the 70's and 80's when it was far more open. Then we were ingrained in the EU as it was. Today it is the secrecy of social media.

To be fair to ST he has watered down calling me a racist, as I voted Brexit.
