I will bite. What is less educated? My cousin without an O level with a very successful business, a bricklayer. My niece has a PHD , she has had lots of acedemic work published. Put her in a car and she would get lost finding Redcar.
A lad on here suggested voting should be weighted.
less educated could be a million things, but largely not their fault in most cases, just born into it, but it doesn’t mean it’s not a factor. Someone who doesn’t understand, or understand numbers as well as others especially is unlikely to be able to get a grasp of trade and economics as well etc.
Doesn’t mean people without good grades can’t be successful, far from it, and especially not in manual/ physical trades that have more demand than supply. Bricklaying is a good one, ok money, whilst housebuilding is in demand, although not so much if we cut down immigration, and tough work for the over 50’s. Would I trust most bricklayers to make sound judgement on the economy? Probably not, as there’s better options as a whole, like trade experts and economists, which largely have better grades as it’s a more complex field. After that, I’d then be looking at guys who had a strong numbers game. Same way I wouldn’t trust an accountant, or doctor to build my extension.
The fact that a hard brexit was likely to hit hardest (even by Tory/ leave forecast), and hit the North East hardest means people that choose this in the less well off areas are either maniacs, do not understand it(enough), or are massively prejudiced by some really messed up ways. If the majority of people don’t understand (and they probably don’t), then it shouldn’t be a vote by those who don’t. Or 20% of voters should not have the power to lead us to the most economically damaging scenario, but mostly damaging to the ones who got led on to vote for it.
This also doesn’t mean that some less well off “brexiteers” won’t gain, some inevitably will, but they will be well offset by those that got led on, and who will get screwed.
Also, I was born in a very rough area, and spent most of my youth in one, until we made it out, albeit without the best education initially, although this was largely my fault as I was a lazy fool, not going to blame that on the area! I started of as a manual trade too, so I know what it can be like.
