re the foden situation - he needs to be played

Yeah I agree. Foden is also more of an “off the cuff” player, rather than always having a picture of what’s around him and knowing what he’s going to do before he gets it

He’s not though as Gareth has said he’s fit.

Kane though is def carrying a nock as he wasn’t fit last night
They said Grealish was fully fit in the Euros at the time, but he wasn't. It's kidology a d has gone on for decades.

There is of course the possibility that Foden is carrying a knock too

From his comments after the match, it sounds like he was only considering him as a wide player last night.

I think he'll start on Tuesday though, I expect a handful of changes.

The World Cup can only be lost at this stage not won. England looked timid to me, devoid of any ideas as a team.

It was not as if the USA didn’t anything that isn’t par for the course at every level of professional football these days.

They were fit and organise, as soon as they lost the ball they got into shape and played with discipline.

I’m not sure believing that one or two players would have made a massive difference last night.

England are a pretty average team at this level I don’t think many teams would be scared of playing us in the knockout stages.

I'd agree that at this stage of his career, he is a wide player

We're better than average, but are capable of a bad day and like all teams have weaknesses

When I looked at the team sheet to start, then those left on the subs bench, I couldn't believe what I was reading. Southgate picked a team not to get beat but leaving Foden and Rashford out of the starting line up was criminal in my opinion. There has to be more thought given to team selection for Tuesday's game against Wales or we'll be home before the postcards.

Do you actually think before you post!!??
The same team thrashed Iran - were you saying that the team was set up not to get beat after that?!
Wales will not beat us by 4 clear goals
Jeez!

Bringing Henderson on for Bellingham was the right call
Old head and leader on the pitch - I can’t see how many on here can’t see this.
The only issue I have with this view and Gareth said something similar is that Henderson didn’t shore anything up in fact the only thing that stopped a defeat was the cross bar.

As the us has countless attacking chances. After we had shored it up apparently.

Henderson came on in the 68th minute, Pulisic hit the crossbar in the 33rd minute.

I don't think the USA had a single real chance in the second half.

They were all over us in the first half though.

It was CM where we were losing the battle too. We needed to invert the midfield from one CDM and 2x 8s into 2x CDM and 1x 8 to give us better shape out of possession. It was either Henderson or Philips that had to come on and Bellingham was the correct player to take off too

Correct, the US basically just dropped their high block back 15 yards, and played for the point from about the time Henderson came on. They didn't really create any good break opportunities either. We did have the better of the game at that point and looked pretty comfortable for the point and slightly more likely to win it.

I think the USA played to nullify England and it worked for the most part.

They play a counter attacking style and I though we tried to play a patient build up to avoid playing to their strengths. The result was a pretty dire game with get chances.

On Foden, he's not done enough in an England shirt (yet) to justify a starting spot and GS obviously goes with the ones that have done it for him consistently, but I was surprised not to see him at all last night.

Will be interesting to see who plays either side of Kane v Wales, but I would be surprised to see Stirling and Saka again.

It's possible Foden could come in for Mount in a deeper position.

As southgate said whoever he didn't bring on the fans would have complained they should have played.

Forden has really ever played well for England. Rushford came on and had an impact last game and grealish did well in cameos at the euros.

So far soithgate has got it right we have qualified playing just 2 games.

There was no reason to go all out against usa losing the game and having to beat Wales would of been a banana skin.

England play completely different to City Forden doesn't have the same effect and plays better in a fluid city team.

He’s not just another player though that’s not what we are saying he’s the best young player in England, and if we can’t find a place for him in the current set up formation then something needs to change.

He's done nothing in an england shirt though and who do you drop? He clearly has talent, but sometimes it takes time for a player to find their international feet, and he hasn't yet

Southgate has played him several times on the right often when coming off the bench which he isnt comfortable doing, he needs to be left or central. Id like to see him get run of games as a 10 for England and still having two wide players on the pitch he can feed.
