Sam Greenwood

Where are the comments from today saying either of the things you said?

The second doesn't seem to have been said at any point, and the first is completely ignoring the intent of the post made by Humpty.

Ok I missed apart from his Goals what does he bring because that is so utterly ridiculous. As I also clearly said the other quote was from a different thread, about a week ago.
The point I'm making is why on earth is anyone criticising the lad whatsoever at the moment. He's done incredibly well.

He has done well. No doubting that. No one is beyond critique though. I was purely making a point about his attributes and how they may fit with us going forward. If all he does is score goals, then no doubt he will fit in fine ;) ...but if his goals dry up a lot of people will be asking what he contributes to the team because his primary role isn't necessarily to score goals.

He has been a key part of our success in recent games. The only criticism I would make (and it is a very small criticism) is that he sometimes tends to hold on to ball a bit too long, runs into trouble and gets dispossessed.

Yeah, sorry with hindsight I think I probably got this one a bit wrong. I think had still hadn't come down from the hysteria of his goal on Saturday and reacted like a man possessed when I thought someone had dared to criticise him.😳

Just get him signed,£1.5M,what a steal that would be.
Are we 100% sure that is the deal? Or just paper talk?

Too early to make a judgement for me. He may improve his overall game and will need to if we're going to go up but he's doing ok.

He scored a cracker on Saturday but Tarmo Kink did the same at this level.

Yeah, same for me, sometimes seems to try the complicated thing all the time instead of the simple. Do we think him at 1.5 million or ramsey at 10 would be the better value for money?

SG has a good range of passing and he's a ball winning attacking midfielder (not all are).

I would also give him our pens. You can tell from his free kicks he can accurately strike the ball on a reliable basis and doesn't suffer nerves.

Tarmo Kink scored 4 goals for us in two years. Greenwood has scored the same amount in 7 starts and 6 weeks. No one knows what the future holds but for me Greenwood looks a far, far better prospect than Kink or most other young players we’ve had in the last twenty years.

It also amazes me how people (not necessarily the person I’m replying to here) can decide a player is rubbish after one poor game but that ability to quickly judge a player evaporates when a player does well over several games.🤔

Er him ... Cos he's about 1/8 th of the transfer budget as opposed to 2/3rds

Ramsey has never been worth more than £10m.

He had a good couple of months for us and he was someone who I'd love to have had back, but for £10m+, I wouldn't dare be spending that on him.

Greenwood for £1.5m is far better value than Ramsey at £10m+

I mentioned Kink due to the clamour over Greenwood since Saturday's winner from a free kick, Kink did the same and was bigged up.

Kink played 22 times for us in total, I've no idea how many were starts, and scored 4, not a bad return for a winger in that particular side, he wasn't good enough though and disappeared back abroad.

Greenwood's had a good start as far as the goals are concerned and could be a snip at £1.5m, it's not a big amount. His overall game needs to improve for me.

£1.5m would be great value I think. I'd agree his game needs to improve in certain areas but I think the basic attributes are there to allow him to do that. I'd just like to see him dropping into spaces and demanding the ball more. A bit more "zip" if you like. When you look at McGree when he's on form he's on the ball all the time and linking play. I think we'll see more of that from Greenwood over time. No complaints from me though, he's working hard for the team and getting goals, quality goals too.

Agree. Villa have done well to get the fee they have. Ramsey injuries will hold him back
