It is quite clear that taking the knee is not having the desired effect.

What can be done to solve this? The idiots can hide behind faceless and often nameless social media accounts and it seems to be becoming more prevalent.

It makes me think that our club have done it right by demanding action and not gestures.

I actually think taking the knee and all the recent media has made it 'worse'. I really didn't see this level of abuse before hand. That or it wasn't highlighted as much.

It's not just the clear racists but also people who have have concerns about the BLM movement and George Floyd and everything else that's been on the media.

We have seen a rise in people complaining about the rise in black and female TV presenters and many feeling its a 'tick box' exercise (I don't but they've ruined soccer Saturday by giving it a 'refresh')

You look at these racist tweets and many read like a 8 year old wrote them. I looked at the Reece James one and the guys clearly got issues. It was insane rambling and emojis (I love an emoji as people know).

The simple solution is you have to provide a picture and ID when setting up an account. I really don't know why wouldn't? I did read this morning that a teacher said she had an account and didn't have a photo so her students couldn't see her. I guess that's a valid excuse. You could still provide one on set up and not show on the profile.

I'm sorry but Racism will never go away. I keep reading these idiots need 'educating'.... Please😞. A fully grown adult knows what's right and wrong. I guess maybe the children growing up in these house holds won't have the same views. The world's that multi cultureral that if you only like white people you've got a sad existence and going to be angry all the time.

Taking a knee is just one thing that is trying to highlight the racial problems in football

you seem to be implying it’s part of the problem?

social media accounts should ask for ID before u can join like many gambling sites. If u choose to hide behind anonymity online and abuse people at least your real name and address can then be supplied to the authorities to deal with it. Social media companies don’t care though as that would negatively affect their user numbers meaning less advertising revenue

I think it is part of the problem if I'm honest.

It is quite clear that the people involved in the racism will be watching it and winding themselves up.

Taking the knee is doing nothing to solve the problem.

The anonymity part is important for victims or abuse and crime. Least the account is linked under the surface though.

maybe players feel like they can highlight abuse because teammates are taking a stand with them

racists are the only problem in all of this.

I understand that but highlighting it isn't changing it.

Something stronger needs to happen to the culprits and there needs to be more education... However kids coming through families whereby the adults are openly racist are always going to a battle to move away from this.

Of course it’s a tick box exercise and the channels themselves have all but admitted that. Hence why so much change was done in so short a time frame. I’m all for promoting people and giving people a chance but some of those now in prime time are not worthy of that opportunity.

I don’t think it’s benefitted those involved either as they must think well I’m only here because.

I actually think this is a separate issue to the OP though.

You are always going to have idiots. It takes no almost effort and no intelligence to post abusive messages - whether they are racist messages, or sexist, or threatening etc.

As someone posted above, I personally dont think that this will ever stop unless everyone has some kind of "license" to use the internet, which means that they are no longer ananoymous.

Taking the knee, and giving education etc is fine and good, but some of the people who post these things are doing it for their own weird amusment, and must get a kick out of posting things that are controversial.

Unless you try to be anonymous online you're not. It doesn't need ID during sign up. You are identifiable through your broadcast ip via your isp. The police don't have the resources to follow up adequately and social media platforms don't care enough to do anything about it.

If you want to hide on the Internet you can most don't know how to.

On the subject of BLM it has given racist, what they believe, is a valid counter argument that all lives matter.

The trouble is that that in the UK people jumped on the George Floyd bandwagon and made out that racism in the UK was on the same level as in the USA where the vast majority of black people are still treated as second class citizens. Racism clearly still raises its ugly head probably by people who couldn’t point out the UK on a map of the world but it’s nowhere near the scale of overt racism in the States.

The fact you see taking a knee as part of the problem says more about you than anything else

I think everyone would agree more needs to be done. Taking a knee has got people talking about it more and surely that is one step towards progression
