So this weekend has seen multiple players racially abused online...

N

no but it is linked to your device. The proper registration of devices is a good idea, and in many countries you cannot buy a sim card anonymously and that should be the case in the UK.

Currently on an unlocked phone with an anonymous sim, assuming it wasn't bought new and on a credit or debit card, it is very close to anonymous. It still isn't as it's location can be tracked right to your pocket.
Yes but the link to your device can only be uncovered if they can link the abuse was coming from u. The phone doesn’t do that unless the police have it in their hands.

The point I am making is we do not have a well enough funded police force or judiciary to bother prosecuting people for hate speech. That is the top and bottom of the issue. There is not enough funding and certainly no apetite form our home secretary to want to do anything about this.

Which is why all sim cards should be registered. The MAC address identifies the device, but that is worthless without a registered device and sim.

But you miss my point completely.

Anyone who thinks there will ever be the resources to police social media is clueless.

There are far too many buffoons on social media and trust me the police are already overwhelmed by offences from social media be it harassment or malicious communications ranging from idiots arguing on a thread through to serious domestic related incidents as well as reports of racial abuse. Most of which just have to be written off.

You'd need a million Cops and you might get close to it.

It can only be resolved if we get to the root and deal with it from there.

Ignoring the clueless insult for a minute, let's examine your solution in a little more depth. Please expand?

That’s just rubbish look at the current cabinet make up look at some of our key positions of power I think we have come a very long way in a short time frame.yes still a long way to go.

but look at other nations and I think we are far ahead of them in our approach.

I’m sorry but that is rubbish.

Just because we have a mixed cabinet that stops the man in the street being racist does it? Pull the other one.

You go in any pub across the land and you'll hear mild racism.

The REAL problem is until we admit we have a problem we won't get rid of the problem. It's like when your grandparents say something that is a bit close to the line, they were brought up with it. Until we are a couple more generations down the line I don't think we'll racism eradicated.

It will eventually die out, but we aren't there yet. Another 20 years and we'll be about there.

Well you'd never have anywhere close to enough resources, to suggest otherwise would show you to be clueless.

We could not even come close to affording to police it. Its pretty much a lawless place and the fact that so much goes on and a lot of it from outside of the UK there would be so much time wasted doing it.

Japan manage it nicely, so maybe I am not clueless. Wanna know how they manage it? Glad you asked, they invest in a police force that has a huge clear up rate. In the UK you commit a crime and expect to get away with it, any crime, outside of murder. You commit a crime in Japan you expect to get caught.

That is why they have the lowest crime rate in the modern world.

You call me clueless again I will put you on ignore, you want to debate, great, you want to insult, no thanks.

Japan has a very different make up of people as you quote rightly highlight.

We dont have that make up of people so yeah that's hardly useful is it.

We do not have enough officers to police day to day and quite often we are left with emergency jobs sat waiting because we do not have enough officers on the streets. I know this because I was once one.

You could say they deal with theft better than us in Dubai etc. But we don't Police like they do.

It isn't quite as simple as saying well they do this in this country. We police by consent and that is the backbone of the model and that won't change.

You think we couldn't afford to double the number of serving police officers? We could but there is no apetite for it. Once you get crime down, it costs less to police in the long run.

There is no apetite to spend money on the social system in this country, that is the top and bottom of it. We could easily afford to police both the streets and the internet, we choose not to.

A racist country or a racist planet?

You'd need to more than double it.

If you wanted every single crime be it on the street or online investigated properly and all lines of enquiry reviewed then you'd need to times it by 10 at least.

We could not afford it as alongside this would be significant investment in courts, prisons as well as police infrastructure. Who would pay for it?

Once you have employed all these officers it costs no less as you can't suddenly just say thanks on your way now.

Are you talking about crime in general or hate crimes, as Japan doesn't enforce its hate speech laws, it merely exists to appease UN conventions.

No argument there my issue was you saying that we are a racist country and we are not.

Oh really... Well that would explain a lot given the extent of hate crime in the UK

This is exactly my point, social media isn't the problem, though it highlights the problem. Identifying perpetrators is pointless if you cannot then convict.

It get's paid out of taxation, don't be fooled into thinking there is no money for it, the government would like you to believe that. There is plenty of cash in the Uk economy to pay for a better society.

The point raised above about Japan's hate speech laws is correct, but wasn't my point. The point was simply that we can afford to police ALL crime, we choose not to.

Don't overestimate the average persons intelligence, which often translates into baseless prejudice.

Nationalism and sovereignty, brexit and the re-emergence of populist politics have contributed significantly and not just here in the UK.
You're suggesting that 50% of the populalation are so thick they become pejudiced. Just how high is that horse?

Whether that is true or not you would still end seeing significant increases in taxation as a result.

Social Media is a massive problem, turn it off tonight and suddenly that crime disappears and can't be repeated.
