The end?

Putin again, looking fairly fit.

As I thought. Definitely a double. Apparently they have nicknamed that one "Uppity" because of his ears. Even if the women are "fake" mothers, real Putin would never be in that close proximity. It's one of the reasons he has doubles.

On deaths
My mate said the last he saw of the body count dead was about 85,000 though likely to be another 40,000 uncounted. He thinks that the death rate will skyrocket due to hypothermia.

(warning; some video of dead bodies in that thread).

The figures for Russian dead that come from Ukraine are battle field body counts, though they will be a substantial underestimate of the true figure. I don't know what that current tally is. It doesn't take into account those killed by missiles/artillery behind enemy lines, nor does it take into account those that die in hospitals. I would be surprised if the numbers weren't way in excess of 100,000. My mate might have a better idea. I'll ask. He has been snowed under with our work this last couple of days. He may have more time to write this weekend.
The Ukraine Min of Defence publish this every morning. I always thought it was a bit of an overcount for propaganda tbh

I think my friend said, some time back, that the Ukrainian figures were thought to be accurate as they were quite diligent in processing them, ID etc and that, at that time at least, were very consistent with the Russian death payments, which were not secret. Not sure if this is still the case.

Bit of a long update.

"In the last few days we have seen videos of Ukrainian soldiers in muddy trenches, and with muddy wet feet.
We feel sorry for them obviously, at least I do. I know how uncomfy that is.
But let us look a bit further, and then compare with Russian soldiers.

The muddy Ukrainians are getting supplies of food and other needed stuff. Yes, it looks like hell, and it is hellish, but you survive somehow as long as you get enough food. And the Ukrainians get enough food to stay alive and active.
Every five days they are rotated out for either five or ten days of drying up, bulking up on even more hot food, washing, showering, saunas... the works really.
This means that Ukraine is mostly using only 1/3rd of their frontline troops, unless a heavy attack comes, or they are attacking.
This gives Ukraine stamina way beyond what the Russians have, and stamina is incredibly important during a winter war.
On top of that the gear and shoes are Western Standard, but Russia is giving out god knows what.

The Russians are not rotated, they are sent forward in wave after wave, without food, without proper gear, without good shoes, without the ability to wash, shower...
The lack of food and the shoes are the worst for the Russians. It is a recipee for hypothermia and death.
There are a couple of gruesome videos out there filmed from drones dropping grenades into Russian trenches.
As a couple of them are blown apart the others barely move. They are to far gone into Hypothermia to be able to react to anything.

The Ukrainian soldiers at Bakhmut are now describing the Russians attacking as being zombies shuffling forward to be moved down, often not even firing their weapons as they come. When captured they are utterly confused, and most of them need treatment against hypothermia, many need amputations.

Ukraine has so far counted dead bodies, or video images where it is likely that the people hit are no longer alive. Now that number is above 86 000, yesterday 600 Russians died.
But, right now that number is probably way higher as winter kill Russians at an alarming rate.

Frontline
The going is slow right now due to weather reasons, but weather is about to improve in a couple of days.
And there are a lot of videos of huge columns of Ukrainian armour staging at various places to take advantage of the weather.
Regardless of the weather Ukraine have been pushing forward through the mud, muck and mulch, especially in Luhansk.
They are mainly concentrating on taking high ground places prior to upcoming advances in the area, and now they are controling the high points on the Svatove/Kreminna line. And they are also taking similar points further north prepping for a push towards the important transportation node of Troi'ske.
Behind these lines there is not a lot to stop them.

Russia
The mobilisation have removed lots of repair technicians and custodians from factories, powerplants, refineries, etcetera.
This is leading to them catching fire or breaking down. This is obviously hampering the Russian war effort, but it is also having more horrible effects.

Babikan in Siberia has suffered a critical failure in their power plant. This has left 70 000 elderly, women and children without heat. Almost all men have been mobilised. It is a mining town so they are pretty much all living in 270 Chrushovskas (concrete monstrosity high-risers).
This means that they can't even huddle around a fireplace.
The governor initially demanded outside help with technicians and equipment to fix it.
But, it would have required helicopters to get that in to Babikan, and there are no helicopters available. There's no technicians left in Siberia to deal with the problem, nor parts.
So, they are trying to fix it by sending people and gear with the railroad. It will take days, and it is -35C.
In Russian fashion they ordered the cables cut to the city so that things will not leak out.
It is looking very bleak. It is the beginning of winter. I suspect that more cities will disappear.

Missiles
Russia is busy converting more nuclear carrier missiles into conventional missiles by either installing dummy weights, or just packing them with any available conventional explosives like duct-taped together grenades. Even ICBMs are converted.
The last part we know since the Russians had to inform the US that there will be launches, to avoid any nuclear mistakes.
I am though worried that a couple of drunk Ivans will mistakenly fire off a nuclear tipped missile by mistake.

Europe
The EU Parliament is currently negotiating a Rent/Lend-Deal to Ukraine. Lend/Lease in other words.
EU pays the bill to rent out whatever Ukraine wants, and what is not returned will eventually be paid (or not).
It is different compared to the US one. It is specifically in place to give Ukraine access to the latest stuff, and there is to be no limitation on what types they can have.
Instead it will be about giving them what they ask for, and with no pecuniary limit.
So, finally Ukraine will get the offensive stuff they need such as tanks, fighter jets, cruise missiles... There is also no formulation stopping Ukraine from using it inside Russia.
The final details will come during the week I hope.

Germany is sending 3 more IRIS-Ts into Ukraine. The two they already have is making one heck of a difference, and 3 more will effectively shut down 3 more cities. And more are coming. At the same time Germany is sending more and more other gear into Ukraine, and Germany is now openly talking about arming Ukraine for a rapid win.

Europe have grown tired of the war. But, unlike what Russia hoped for Europe is not giving up. Instead Europe is ramping up the support to Ukraine to get a victory faster.

Russia Again
Surovikin has discovered that his erstwhile leaders in Moscow have lost all grip on reality. Like Hitler they are conjuring up non-existing units and sending those to the front. About 1 unit in 3 is showing up at the front, and they are lacking equipment.
There is a mindboggling discrepancy now of 300 000 soldiers in what Moscow has sent, and what Surovikin has received.

He is non to happy about it and have stopped answering the phone from Moscow.
He knows that he is toast, he knows his soldiers are toast, he knows that all it takes is for the weather to clear and he will have to make a "goodwill manouvre" or two.

He is now trying out a preemptive "goodwill manouvre" at Enerhodar NPP, so that the Ukrainians can run in panic after his gloriously manouvering troops. Yeah, I am sarcastic.
Same seems to be prepared now in Southern Kherson. He knows he lost that one, and that it was his own mistake.
But, in the end he does not have enough equipment and soldiers to hold everything, and he knows it.

On top of that he just had it proved to him that Ukraine now have the capacity to break through his lines whenever they wish.
The attack on Tokmak was interesting, run through, beat up the unprepared Russians there, and then saunter back.
The reason for giving up the attack was most likely the deteriorating weather, but at the same time it has left a bleeding scar in the Russian lines that is not being sutured up. The hole created is still there, and Ukraine is holding the former Russian line.

I am still sticking to there being 26 days left of this war.
The Russian army knows it is beat deep into their frozen bones.
They also know that the political leadership has lost the plot alltogether.
The soldiers, officers, and generals know that Ukraine can do almost anything to them by now. They know that they will lose every single serious battle.
After all, they have in the last 3 months gained 11 villages and lost 2.5 regions...
They know that they have lost, and at this point they hope that they will lose faster so a few of them can go home and drink vodka with their wives.
But, the political leadership is sitting in their bunkers conjuring up fantasmagoric plans, and inventing weapons out of thin air.

Belarus
There are a lot of rumours that they will oust Lukashenka and force out the Belarusian army into the war.
And it is founded in "reality", it is one of those fantasmagoric plans hatched by the Russians.
Obviously Uncle Luka is well aware of it and has surrounded himself with paratroopers in their base, and the streets of Minsk are now patrolled by heavy units looking angrily at the Russian soldiers.
One effect was that the western oriented foreign minister was liquidated coming from talks with the vatican en route to meeting Lavrov.
The Russians feared that if they liquidated Lukashenka he would take control and move Belarus out of the Russian sphere and towards west, so he had to go.

I am ready to make a quite hefty bet that Uncle Luka is about 3 steps ahead of Russia on this.
Unlike the current Russian leadership he has a well functioning brain (of sorts), and he knows how to stay alive and in power.
He is probably fearing Tikhanouskaya far more than he is fearing the Russians.
Heck, a Russian powerbid would probably strengthen his cards inside Belarus.

Rambling
Why do I not change my deadline? Because my equation is still giving a higher than 50 percent figure for it all being over prior to 24th.
Obviously it would take Ukraine longer to clear them out, but not with a lot. At current figures it would take until summer to clear them all out, but the figures are changing into Ukraines favour by the day, so late february or early march would be the day the last Russians is hauled out freezing and dying from Ukraine.
On that we could hazard another 3 months to punish Russia by taking a few Oblasts in the direction of Moscow until they understand that all is lost and they sign the articles of surrender.
But, I doubt even Russians are so stupid that they prefer to lose chunks of their country just to gain a couple of months before the inevitable.

No, I am still banking on a coup, or that Surovikin just orders the army home, or that the army just start to walk home on its own like in 1917. There is also the possibility of a domino-effect setting off when Ukraine takes the next Oblast.

I know, I am hedging my bet, but in war there are no certainties.
But, baring that China enters the war somehow it will be short now.
In general the war has been lost since May, but Russians are slow of thinking and understanding.
They need to have their entire worldview altered before understanding, and that change is slowly coming to them.

China (bonus rambling)
And that brings me to China.
It does not have the economy to enter the war.
And, they do not have the economy left to survive sanctions.
The pundits are making a lot about airplanes between China and Russia, but those are to get spareparts for faultering industrial equipment to keep food and heating running in Russia. Otherwise as far as the collected intelligence services of The Collective West knows China is doing as told.
The reason is that China is rocking hard now. The economy is in ruins. People are angry as hell about the constant lockdowns.

This has led to massive protests and riots on the streets in most larger cities.
Behind the scenes the CCP is shaking in their well polished slippers.
Two days ago it got so bad that they had to send in drones spraying entire cities with vomit-gas to disperse protesters.
Forcing their populations to puke is obviously a fabulous way to become popular, and the people are rejoicing their leaders wisdom so hard that the CCP will soon have to send in soldiers to kill the protesters.

For the first time in Chinese history hundreds of thousands of Chinese are in the streets chanting that it is time for the CCP to step down from power and let others take over.
Xi is well and truly an idiot.
He himself dismantled the economy and the unspoken contract that the CCP could do whatever the hell they wanted as long as people got better economy.
He is also the idiot that started to lock people into their homes on a massive scale causing mass starvation.
China being China I suspect that his days are numbered, but that it will be the CCP that does the numbering of him.
The other option is obviously civil war.
Or, going to war against a common enemy.

What Xi has forgotten in all his rambling about China and Taiwan being one country is that it goes both ways.
There is always a slight chance that Taiwan goes and grabs the reigns if the internal confusion grows big enough, slim indeed but still there.

Anyways, time to shup up now."

Stuff

"I am noting that the media pundits are rapidly swinging back to the age old adage of theirs that we should appease Putin and make peace that awards him to keep large parts of Ukraine.
The reason is per usual that Putin will use nukes if he is not "given something".
I remember when pundits had a moral backbone and was named Walter Cronkite (and other famous journalists from yon golden days).

Thankfully this is not flying well amongst politicians. Heck, even German Chancellor Scholts grew a backbone when he discovered that he could still save himself a cushy job as Chairman of the Board of a gas company for when he leaves politics.
Day after he secured a deal between Germany and Ukraine's gas company he was all of a sudden all for sending more and modern weapons to Ukraine to hasten Russia being evicted.
And now he secured a second Gassy Chair from Qatar, signing a 15 year long gas deal...

Moscow
The Pundits in Moscow is now seeing the light and stating publically that when they lose they will all be sent to Hague, including the street sweaper of Kremlin.
Russian TV is also airing Duma Senators talking openly about the possibility of having to surrender.
I find this odd, if the Duma is starting to talk openly like this something momentous is happening behind the scenes.

Minsk
My erstwhile boss just dropped a bomb.
He publically admitted that the Belarusian former Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei was a Western asset directly run by him.
It is a brilliant move that will send all sorts of uncertainty into the FSB, GRU and KGB.
It is also a warning that some metric of justice will be had from whomever ordered the hit. Patrushev really took a dump when ordering this hit.

Russia again
Video evidence of Wagnerite rape specialist motivating mobiks have started to come out, this is causing all sorts of discussions in Russia. Also, a Russian high ranking mob boss, Grisha Moskovsky, has gone public declaring that Prigozhin was used for sexual pleasure by him and others while in prison.
"Those who follow Prigozhin and join Wagner are following a cuck (Russian prison term for men pleasing high ranking prisoners), they are lower than cucks".
Grisha then warned any prisoner who takes up weapons that there would be consequences for them from the Russian Mob.
He also claimed that Prigozhin and his cohorts would attempt to take power in Russia.
If I were Prigozhin I would be rather nervous about windows after this, and stay away from any prisoner Wagnerites...
Basically, this was a public hit order from Grisha.
Oh, and why now was Prigozhin sent to prison? He trafficked children, what a model Russian.

And in Russia more and more dragons teeth and trenches are dug, and more and more mines.
The Governors of Belgorod and Kursk have started to form militias since they do not trust the armys ability to defend their oblasts.
More Governors seem willing to follow suit.
Russian confidence is dropping like a stone.

Frontline
Ukraine is now bombarding Polohy and Tokmak like there was no tomorrow and Russian sources are claiming high losses in both Towns.
Surovikin is ever more convinced that he is in for some real butthurt at Melitopol, so he is renewing his efforts of building fortifications at the roads into Crimea.
He has ordered civilian companies in Crimea to build Dragons Teeth for defence lines. I am curious about if he will make real ones that are bigger and that are dug down, or if he will use the same **** as everywhere else? My guess is that he will make proper ones.
Anyway, as soon as things dry up, or freeze over, I suspect that he will indeed live in interesting times.

Over in Luhansk Ukraine is taking a village here and there as they prepare for their large winter offensive.
It will come quicker than the Melitopol campaign for natural reasons, Luhansk is way colder and has an earlier winter.

In Bakhmut the zombies are ambling forth in great numbers, so many that the Ukrainians are having a hard time keeping up.
Many of them just get up and shuffle forward without guns, they just want it over with.
It is definitely up there with the large battles of the first world war.
In a way the zombified Russians are emblematic of the entire Russian army now, it has turned into a zombie army fighting a zombie war. The army is dead, but it still continues to fight.
The war is over, but still the war is trying to eat brains...

Over in Kherson it is still Artillery Fest and Himars O'Clock at the same time.
That in combination with a heavy mechanized brigade roaming behind their lines is highly instructive.
Many of them find it to be a very good idea to be somewhere else.
Comments about the sexual inability of their leadership is uttered over the radio when they discover tanks rolling up from the wrong side of their own lines.

China
It is now known what the Russian airplanes was picking up, it was spare parts for powerplants, refineries, electricity substations, district heating powerplants and technicians to help with the maintenance.
This was the reality behind the Energy Partnership Without Limits that was announced today. It also included that China will be getting the same ridiculous discounts on oil and gas as previously. It is good to remember that China is getting half price now, meaning that Russia is de facto making a loss on every single sold barrel.
Russkies awesomely negotiating themselves into bankruptcy.

China seems to have a bit of problem with motivating their soldiers to go fight the protestors. Several units have been put in lockdown after refusing orders.
Regardless, more robust retaliation against the protesters are being in the making. I suspect that it will not be pretty."

What came after this was stuff that I'd have to ban myself for.

I won't post what he sent me today as it was basically a video of Wagnerites sodomising a reluctant Mobik.

This one is from me, but it just about confirms everything he has been saying for months.

Thanks for the update.

There is some pretty inappropriate (horrible) media about that's hard to avoid when trying to keep a broad view on events.

I really wouldn't want to have to watch any of it, and have avoided all of it tbh. It involves humans and suffering. This isn't a game.

I'll be very glad when this is all over.

Hopefully the US will massively increase the weapons it supplies to the Ukrainian defenders so they can end the suffering by liberating ALL of their land - including of course Crimea, Ukraine - as soon as possible

I read a while ago about millions of winter clothing apparently gone missing in Russia - meaning many of the dictator's army could freeze to death. The only doubt seems to be whether the dictator would even be bothered to have that much protection against the elements for its troops in the first place when it has villas and yachts to spend on

Bakhmut is trending on twitter at the moment and some of the footage is just awful. It's so senseless this waste of life.

It has a WW1 feel to it. A few people have likened it to Verdun and it does seem comparable is many ways.

What's happening in Bakhmut?

What's happening in Bakhmut?

It is a town on the Donbass frontline that Russia have been trying to capture for months, but Ukraine have hung on and resisted. It was a Wagner Group target at first, but Russia has thrown reinforcements.

Ukraine is massively outnumbered, but I think they have been effectively using intelligence, drones and artillery to atrit the Russian forces. So in several months they haven't moved much but lost a lot of men and used up a lot of ammunition on both sides.

There doesn't seem to be a huge strategic benefit in taking it worth all this effort, but perhaps it is now symbolic.

It's would seem it has tied down a lot of Russian forces and bought time, allowing Ukraine to break through elsewhere where the Russian lines were weaker.

Brutal battle though. Trench warfare, large losses to artillery on both sides it seems, but more for Russia it looks like.

"On the importance of working with professionals.
It is fairly well known that I find crypto currency revolting as it represent a giant waste of resources that we need for other things without creating any tangible value.
On top of that it is mostly used for nefarious reasons.
Such as funding Russias war effort, and the people involved are fairly well known entities, both the ones directly working for Russia, and the mental gerbils that value money above a few hundred thousand Ukrainian and Russian lives.
That venue of funding had to be closed down with utmost impunity (sic).

It began that Nikolai Mushegian was liquidated on the 28th of October, and on the 23rd of November Tiantian Kullander was liquidated.
This was followed two days later when Vyacheslav Taran was liquidated on the 25th of November.
Together with the takedown of FTX Russia has lost half of its cashflow in a month.
Expect more interesting news about cryptodudes and their window habits.
Professionals, always good to have a couple around.

Spanish letter bombs
After the explosion at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid, another 3 letter bombs have been found, and more are suspected of being on the way.
Ukraine is stating that this is done by Russian agents.
I am not so certain, there's after all a lot of weirdo's out there that are amply able to send bombs out from their isolated shacks, or from their mothers basement.

If it is indeed sleeper cell agents and it is proven the responce would have to be exceedingly powerful, and would have to be a NATO response.

CAR and PMC Wagner
It was reported that a mystery airplane blew up a PMC Wagner compound in the Central African Republic.
This was a responce for Wagner attacks on French and Swedish UN units.
It was decided that PMC Wagner as such are not Russian soldiers, and are eligible targets for therapeutic conversations.
Expect more mystery planes showing up at unexpected places doing explanatory work with Wagnerites.

Moscow
In Russian television the propagandists are now raving wildly about being sent to Hague, or being renditioned there, after Russia losing the war.
The fear of god has descended upon the Muskovitian propagandists and politicians.

What I find interesting is that they seem totally mentally unprepared for negotiating for peace with a set term of not being sent to Hague. Currently they might get that if they vamoose rapidly from Ukraine.
Instead their only idea seem to be a general mobilisation that will at best just delay the inevitable.

152mm
While the Czechs, Slovaks, Finns and Ukrainians are belting out 100 000 152mm grenades per month for Ukrainian usage, the Russian defence industry are producing exactly zero grenades. The only functioning Russian munitions plant suffered from a smoking accident a few months ago.

Meanwhile Ukraine has constructed an entire plant to produce more modern 155mm NATO standard grenades, still ramping up slowly, but still it is telling about the difference in capability.
In January US and European production of 155mm will reach 100 000 grenades per month, and in June another 200 000 grenades will be produced by private companies in the US.

Even this enormous number is barely enough to cover the Ukrainian usage of artillery shells, so further expansion of production is needed to get the number up to the levels prior to the war, and most countries have decided to up their inventories to levels needed to deal with China.
Drawing from conclusions made from the war in Ukraine it is now understood that a war against China would require 1-2 million shells per month for years. Inventories numbering 50 million shells are currently discussed for NATO

Kursk
While everyone expected Russian missiles on Ukrainian powerplants it was instead the Ukrainians missiling the Powerplant and electric infrastructure of Kursk in a most satisfactory way.
This made the freshly pressganged Kursk Militia nervoes, so when they saw a somewhat mechanised battalian coming towards their checkpoints just south of Kursk they opened fire.
The regular army was not impressed with the fatsos and removed them from the Russian payrolls.
Initially the Governor of Kursk claimed that it was Ukrainians attacking, but later retracted the statement.

Siberia
More powerplants have failed in Siberia and the Far East due to lack of maintenance, technicians and spare parts.
This is not Ukraines doing, it is all upon Russia who mobilised many of the needed technicians.
In the short run Russia is solving the problem by cutting communication and erasing the villages, town and cities from the map, like they did with Babakan.

I fear that come spring thaw more people will have died from hypothermia in the hinterlands of Russia than has died or been wounded in total in the war on both sides.
The solution seems to be to fly in a few chinese technicians and chinese spare parts to "the important parts" of Russia. Ie, cities with more than a half a million people.
The rest are left to fend for themselves.
Now, imagine what will happen as Russia starts their upcoming total mobilisation calling in all men below 65 years of age, and all women aged 35 to 55.
Imagine all those young women, children, and senior citizens freezing without heat or electricity in the middle of the Russian winter...

Frontline
Not much is happening in Luhansk, both Russia and Ukraine are pushing for positions now infront of the Winter Offensive.
In Donetsk Bakhmut has become even worse, Russia is now throwing everything they have into the fight and death count is spiralling out of control.
Ukraine is now slowly and steadily being pushed backwards by the steadily increasing numbers of zombies.
More artillery has been called in (mostly old Soviet stuff that Ukraine has) to lay wallfire across the front, and Ukrainian air force are performing carpet bombings of the Russian lines.
But, the mindless Russians just keep coming, so much so that Ukraine are no longer able to count the corpses.
It is estimated that in the last 72 hours more than 6000 Russians have died in an area of five square kilometres.

Ukraine is preparing a push with mechanised brigades in Bakhmut, but it is currently impossible, so they have to do it manually with machine guns, artillery wallfire and bombs.
Well, you have all seen the images of the horror.

The tragic part is that Bakhmut is not even strategically important, for Ukraine it is more that they do not want to lose ground, and for Russia it is a political fetish to take it. Every great war have battles like this that nobody want and that are pointless, but still happens.

Both sides have for the time being given up on Vuhledar since Bakhmut is draining the needed resources.

Over at the Zhaporizhzhia line Ukraine is merrily shelling Russians while eating Borstj. If the Russians become severely weakened they will run down and grab things using the roads, if things freeze they will start the proper offensive. At least that is the general theory.

In Kherson nothing new. More artillery hits, more galumphing maniacs blowing Russians up through their antrum nobilis (****). The unfortunate Russians there are begging for reinforcements and heavy equipment, but they are told to hold with what they have.
More concrete being poured on the points towards Crimea.

Numbers
Yesterday Ukraine reached 60 000 dead soldiers. They hate that the number is known by their allies. The number of wounded is above 200 000...
Almost 20 000 of the dead Ukrainians are from Bakhmut alone, add to that 40 000 dead Russians. This is why Ukraine have decided to plug that bleeding hole and attack as soon as the ground freezes over and they can use their large advantage in heavy equipment and armour.

Conclusion
I am still sticking to the 24th being the last day of the war. I am though becoming fairly alone in this.
More and more think that late February or early March will be when Russia throws in the towel.

For now I am sticking to my date. Why?
Russia has now used 2/3rds of their total official artillery shell supply, and I suspect that the official numbers are not the real numbers. I think they are running dry about now. Also, no more Russian drones left, and where did that missile barrage go?
It takes time to convert nuclear carrier missiles to use them against powerplants.
And Russia just sent it's last tanks from the far east towards Bakhmut. When those arrive in Ukraine there will be no tanks left in Russia."
